So glad to see you guys doing well and I can't wait to see you get even more popular. The camera work is leagues above anything else on KZbin, the chemistry between you two is magnificent, you can really tell you're a couple of best mates that just love this game, it comes across in your videos and just makes the whole thing feel happier and lighter than some of the other channels. I've said it before, I'll continue saying it. You guys are killing it. You can use Dinosaurs/awesome beasts (maybe some home brew beasts too) and use meeting them as like a magic item drop for your Druid. One of my favorite 5e characters that I've played so far was Peony, my wild elf moon circle druid. Took the Noble background and my DM let me roll her up as a minor membor of the fey noble courts. For most of the campaign (Princes of the Apocalypse), she tried her damndest to teach peace and fairness. Eventually she just got so fed up with the cultists that I just started killing people by flying over them and then wild shaping into a whale.

My first character was actually a half-orc druid and is still probably my favorite. I focused him on circle of the land for better spell casting options and then later on I gave him a level dip in barbarian for the con mod to armor and the full weapon proficiency a bit later after that I was able to go have armor made from wood and animal parts by a Lizardfolk crafter so I had a scale shirt and maul made from owlbear and Elk bones. So I was able to make a character that I really really enjoyed that was basically a nature or wild-type cleric since I usually drop most of the heals for the party as well. It was a good multipurpose all around character.

I solved the Jimmy Dean problem thusly: rearrange the sandwich config so that the dense materials (egg/sausage) are on the outside and the biscuits are in between. Then, depending on your wave, about 1 min is all it takes. BTW, the (imitation) cheese is not microwaved at all, but just reinserted when rebuilding your heated components (thaws nicely between egg and sausage) into their original order. It works because of Science.

New viewer here: I wanted to chime in since I'm currently playing a tiefling druid in a friends 5e campaign. He is a forest druid, and I find that I simply would not be able to have the spells I need to function in my party if I had chosen the moon circle instead. Now, I am the only true spellcaster in my party (since our wizard is a dwarf abjurer in heavy armor with str/con as his highest stats) so I imagine that has a large part to do with this. Simply put, the fact that I have extra spells prepared every single day allows me to have all spells I need at the ready, which simply would not be possible with a moon druid. Plus since you don't get beast spells till 18th level (we started at lvl 1) I could not be the spellcasting support I needed to be with the moon druid.
@JPruinc7 жыл бұрын
xXIxidor92Xx In your situation, you chose wisely. Those extra spells are worth so much more when you're bearing the casting burden.

I'm in the same boat as justification. Just learning about them (through reading/stories/seeing) is not enough. I allow my players to try and do a transformation having only theory with a DC 15 without any modifiers. If they fail by 5 or more, they are temporarily warped/disfigured in some way. By 10 or more, they are permanently disfigured/warped in some way. If they roll a 1, they succeed in transforming into whatever it is they were attempting, but must succeed a DC 15 int check using the creature's stats . If they fail, the character loses their mind completely and becomes that creature. If they succeed, congrats, you've learned to transform into some animal through sheer force of will. More homebrew to it but comment text limits.

20th level moon druids are insane, their capstone is likely the best in 5e, nearly unkillable. But most things at level 20 are fairly insane. I do think you are underestimating Land Druids though. Land is decently better at casting, with the 8 extra prepared spells quite a few from off list alone, just adds that extra versatility and the Arcane Recovery for that extra high level or multiple low level slots on a short rest also just allows the Land to cast a bit more freely. With Land as well, you still have Wild Shape, you can still swim and fly at the same point that a Moon can, you're just not going to be fighting with them past very early levels. You still get all the utility you'll ever need. Need strength? Pack Horse, Stealth? Spider? Panther? Escape, lots of fast flying creatures. I will say where the Land falls apart is the circles. Some of them just outright add spells that you don't want or need on a daily basis and are never going to be used. I would have also liked if the Land Circles did more than just add spells, if they had their own feature set more in line with Wizard schools, rather than just having a blanket set for all, too much to ask I'm sure but would have been nice. All that said I'm really looking forward to playing my new Land Druid Moon Druids are fantastic but they also pigeon hole you into the tank role more often than not rather than casting. Cast your one concentration continuous damage spell like call lightning then become unBearable. They are also very spiky in their power level while Land Druids are much more stable.
@borisdaanimal40147 жыл бұрын
most capstones are garbage: barbarians get a stat boost they'd likely already have at 20th level, bards get virtually nothing [much like sorcerers, wizards, monks], and rangers just get flat out nothing. rogues get a circumstantial win button that doesn't even matter with reliable talent [or if you're a swashbuckler for the attack]. the only other decent capstones are cleric for an effective 1/week wish, warlocks for more slots than wizards per day, paladins get an actually decent transformation, and fighters get another attack[ the only thing they really do]. also, moon druids are pretty killable with some prep or casting: the classic glyph of warding room is one way, power word stun, monk stun lock, paladin nova, sorlock eldrith blast/hex quickened spam, feeblemind - plane shift/true polymorph, or a lucky prismatic spray banishment/petrification.
@FelineElaj6 жыл бұрын
Dostro89 have you actually played a level 20 Moon Druid? Is it really that broken? I’ve never seen one in play, so I have no idea if all these rumors about level 20 Moon Druids are true.
@chloe63346 жыл бұрын
What region does your new Land Druid belong to?
@IamMcBobb7 жыл бұрын
Also, Summon Fey is BROKEN. Fairies are 1/8th CR and can cast Polymorph. The Druid casts "win". Welcome to Dinotown. Edit: The creatures I'm thinking of are Pixies and they are CR 1/4 (thanks EmperorZ19) but I still maintain that this spell is broke. There aren't that many CR1/4 Fey creatures in the MM so even if the player doesn't pick the creatures and they are randomly generated (seriously, try DM fiat-ing your players level 4 spell into summoning 8 Sprites and see how long before they lynch you) then you still have a high chance of 2-3 Pixies which follow orders and can cast polymorph.
@thefracturedbutwhole54757 жыл бұрын
Counter-spell, Dispel magic, Silence and Fire-ball will usually help fix any fairy problem you have . . . plenty of other casters have access to polymorph (AKA "the ability to turn into dinosaurs") , Druids are a strong class but so are Wizards and Sorcerers
@leonardoellis50337 жыл бұрын
Also keep in mind that "The DM has the creatures’ statistics." That can very likely mean that the player doesn't chose the exact type of being he summons, just the CR.
@EmperorZ197 жыл бұрын
That's probably why the spell, RAW, doesn't allow the player to select the specific fey, just their CR The fey you're thinking of are pixies, and their CR is 1/4
@filippocataldo32757 жыл бұрын
polymorph is meant more to transform enemies in squirrels.....yes you can use it on allies but with some major disavantages, like mental scores, no casting spells, no equipment....
@IamMcBobb7 жыл бұрын
Yea, but Dinosaurs don't need equipment. You also keep your alignment/personality in 5e so you'd still operate as a team, or at least not attack each other. Even animals can recognise friends/foes.

Working on a druid who is a rough-&-tumble Ghostwise Halfling who has "seen some sh*t". He's a druid who HATES the wild...he goes on frequent tirades about how awful it is, and how normal folk couldn't cut it surviving in it. He's somewhere between Rambo and Solid Snake, in that he has survived against terrible monsters through guerilla tactics, and speaks in a gravelly, guttural tone. "You wouldn't last two days in the WILDS...it's dirty, it smells, and everything wants to KILL you. Disease, poison, weather...the night is dark and full of BULLSH*T. And monsters...and regular SH*T. Sh*t everywhere, because it's the WILDS. Screw the WILDS!" Conversely, he loves the city and everything it has to offer. His favorite methods of combat involve shock tactics...laying traps like "Snare" or "Entangle"...or using cantrips like "Thorn Whip" to knock enemies into spike traps he dug with "Mold Earth". Becoming a hybrid beast through "Primal Savagery" or "Guardian of Nature"...or stealthily taking out enemies using "Pass Without Trace"...or better yet, turning into an insect, sneaking into an enemy camp, and telepathically sowing seeds of distrust or menace into the minds of brigands, turning them against one another. God, I love Ghostwise Halfling Druids...and not just because they ride giant owls like medieval stealth bombers. He is literally a reminder that Nature is terrifying.

We had a house rule that the druid couldn't *command* the shape of an animal, so much as he could *channel* it - and as such, had to be on good terms with the gestalt 'spirit' of that species - needing to protect them, and losing favour when he killed one of them. We still thought it was a little OP, so when we eventually started a new set of campaigns, the DM brought in a house rule that our druid couldn't get the form of an animal just by observing or peacefully interacting with it - but being granted the actual flesh and spirit of an individual creature he tried to help, but which perished anyway. When he started, his first wild form was a wolf that he tried to rescue from a hunters trap, but which succumbed to wounds and exhaustion.

About a year ago I started to play D&D and my 1st character is a Wood Elf Land Forest Druid. I say moon druid and land druid are 2 different game play, a moon druid relies on wild shape for close combat and maybe navigating, while a land druid has abilities better for navigating and range combat. I personally love the fact that playing a land druid you get bonus cantrips, you don't get affect by non-magical difficult terrain, circle spells, once a day regain some spell slots after a short rest, immune to poison and deceases, can't be frightened or charmed by elemental and fey. My character would just walk into a room filled with poison gas, and don't need to roll anything against being frightened by an elemental or being charmed by an elf (dm choice if elf is fey descendent). Of course, with more druid circles from UA, this class is even more interesting to play.

Playing a Land Druid (coast) up to mid-level is a lot like being a pre-3e druid, where wildshape is less about raw power and more "neat trick that might come in handy." For anyone who likes the nature theme but wants to be a pure caster they're totally solid options (especially if the exploration theme comes up and your terrain is part of it). Part Wizard, Part Cleric, and great in a party that already has enough melee-focused characters around for menial labor.

We have the idea of the Mage that wishes to learn every Spell, and quests to find everything he can, no matter how mundane. I'd like a Druid that is the same, that wishes to find every Creature there is, no matter how fantastical or mundane, and learn them enough to be able to Shift.

The only "issue" I've found is that the early levels of moon druid you can get 64 temporary HP per short rest. This makes combat somewhat trivial and it means you have such a high chance of success in those combats by being unkilkable.
@OMGWTFBBQRLY7 жыл бұрын
Right. So what you do is throw more than two combats per short rest at the party. Then the Druid has to make hard decisions.

First game I ever played of D&D I played a lvl2 moon druid with this exact thought. The DM threw a fucking Carnosaur at us.

According to the PHB explanation of feats, you cant take the feat Resilient more than once, so you cant rely on that feat to win you all the saving throws.

3.5 was the Druids playground. Mine had the Greenbound feat, which buffed his summoned creatures. All combat went something like this: 1. Summon 1d3 enhanced creatures to run interference. 2. Shift to Brown Bear form. 3. Eat faces.

My first D&D character was a Half-Elven Land Druid of the Arctic. We were all new to D&D (including our DM), so we played a starter campaign and my character only got to level 5 by the time the campaign ended, but I had fun. I would definitely play a Land Druid again and would love to continue in another campaign with my Arctic Druid.

I'm a druid main, I love them both as a concept and as a class, I've read a lot of Celtic myth and history, and my friends all know me as the druid. So having never seen one of your videos I was skeptical, especially due to a lot of the misconceptions that people often have about them. But your commentary was well versed, smart, and entertaining. Never linked them to that martial arts idea so thats something to think about and maybe implement in my campaign. Your all mage game is one I want to maybe try. (Ps i think the monster you were thinking of was the naagloshi aka skinshifter)

I love your content. I'm in the process of making the jump, more a leap, from 1st Edition AD&D to 5th Edition D&D and I've found your content to be super helpful. Are you going to do an episode on ranged combat in the future? Not just bows and spears, but also thrown objects like potions, flaming bottles of oil, and flasks of acid

As soon as I read the way sorcerer's cast spells in 3e, I never understood why druids don't cast the same way (with WIS instead of CHA of course).

My last character was a druid tiefling who was extremely dangerous. Everyone was really confused when I started being this intimidating beat of a tiefling. I was a moon druid who was an "urban druid" in that I was there to balance out the habitats of the sentient races. I had these cool set ups that let me be a force of anarchy to force change that the people couldn't stagnate the world between the rich and poor.

Level one with 2 1st level spells, plus additional 1st level spell slot equal to your wisdom modifier is really OP. A variant human built with the standard array and the magic initiate feat can be a level one caster with 4 can trips and 6 spell slots.

I wanted to tell y'all about my favorite druid i played as. She was a drow stormshifter (storm shaper/shape shifter hybrid). Before she became a druid she was an acolyte of Lolth she came to hate her peoples backstabbing side dealing ways so she left the underdark denouncing her goddess and her people losing the powers she gained as an acolyte. The first person she met was an old druid who took her under his wing. Her first task to help him raise the dire wolf pup he had found, they grew very fond of eachother, and he became her animal companion. Her first shape shift was into a dire wolf but she didnt prepare herself for the battle to retain her mind, there for she ran off into the woods for 5 years with her companion. They became life mates, but even in her dire wolf form she couldnt get pregnant from him. After 5 years she shifted back to her bipedal form and returned to find her teacher dead and to find a note telling her he died of deseise (cant spell). Also he left the key to his secret laboratory with the note in it she found all his years of shape shifting and storm shaping research and began learning from his notes. But she could only learn so much without real world experience so she used a ritual from his notes to protect that place by sending it into a pocket dimension (the ritual was on a scroll and all the materials needed for several uses were with it). She went to gain experience by using her direwolf form to search out things harming nature and combat them..... What do you guys think of this character???

I played a land druid before in a one off. Do not underestimate the amount of versatility that exists in the Druid spell list. And the ability to recover spell slots is very powerful. In particular was playing a Coast Druid, and I played the character like a Wizard. It worked out incredibly well. Moon Druid may appear the obvious choice, but it's worth it to give Land a second look.

I've been dm'ing for a moon druid for 2 and a half years, and yeah they're totally just druids + cool wild shapes. I just started a campaign with 2 other players, and decided to play a Goliath circle of the land-Arctic druid. You get some really good spells, but my DM let me switch out spike growth for snillocs snowball swarm. We just finished our first session and it's a lot of fun.

WOO new WebDM just in time to listen to at work :D (after watching) I am going to take that Druid naturalist idea, I've never played one before because I've only recently decided to make an effort to stop playing one different class for every four or five rangers. Thanks as always for making me think and laugh at the same time, and today for helping me start my cashier shift off with a real smile and not just a polite one lol

I've played a Paladin Druid Barbarian. Summon a pack of wolves with conjure animals, shapechange into a bear, than use the rest of my spells slots to smite and heal my beast form. Than when my wolves die, rage still smiting and healing. Plus the extra AC from unarmoured defense in most forms. I loved it.

I have two Circle of the Land druids in my campaign, and it seems like they use it as an RP thing more than caring about the spells they got from their Circle. In three weeks of playing, they haven't used any of their specific circle spells a single time. I don't know why they didn't go Circle of the Moon and get the better shape shifting, but they seem happy with their characters.
@redfeildre3497 жыл бұрын
I played circle of the land druid. He started off in 4E with a wolf companion. Let me tell you, I HATED how animal companions worked in 4E. Ether I attack or the wolf attacks or we "attack at the same time". Big load of BS. It did not feel like I had a wolf companion. It felt like we were the same character taking up two squares of space. BLECK! When we transitioned to 5E I lost the wolf but it was in story. Did not mind at all. My 5E druid felt like...a druid. The loss of the wolf was sad but did not nerf my character in the slightest. Loved playing that character. BTW, Call Lightning? OP! My thoughts on the moon druids are this. That wild shape needs a nerf. Sorry moonies. What wild shape effectively does is add extra HP to the character. There is no drawback to using wild shape. These druids are beast. But the variant is welcome. I may give them a try one day. What I would like in the future is to see a bit more of the 2E flavor put into druid. May be not all the way. Playing true neutral is not always fun. But there was a strange kind of hierarchy that existed. Want to advance a level? You had to fight a higher level druid and take his position! Crazy but it could have lead to some interesting adventures. I used that angle in one of my 3E games as a DM. Fun stuff. A variant I think would be fun is a Feywild druid. Land circles could fill that roll, sure, but I think there is some flavor to be had from a druid that sees and communes with nature spirits. I'm thinking something like the shrine maidens in anime. Throw in a bit of Princess Mononoki and we may have something. Wow. I like druids better than I thought. What do you guys think?

I would love to hear your thoughts on Casters vs Martial classes. Multiple times you guys have said that caster classes have broken the game in X edition, or something along the lines of "Go home, I've got this" when referring to casters at higher levels not needing a party. Some specific points I'm interested in are: Do you think there's a huge power gap? If so, is it good or bad? How to not get out-shined as a martial class? How could WotC go about addressing this? What are some examples of OP martial classes in previous editions? Sorry for the word vomit and thanks!
@partydean176 жыл бұрын
BralorSkirata I know it's been a long time since you posted this but I wanted to let you know that if anything atleast until the extreme high levels, the martial classes can wreck monsters. A barbarian or fighter can solo the heavy hitters where any caster would have been squished as soon as the 50 speed monster caught them, rogues and monks can one shot single targets. And overall at my table it's just a ton of fun describing physical combat
@filippocataldo32757 жыл бұрын
About the competition between Land and Moon druid: I agree that the moon druid is more fun to play, but I think land druid is more versatile, having acces to more spells and the natural recovery feat can save your day in some cases (think about when you need healing after a tough encounter). Moreover, the beast spell feat, you have it at 18th level, so the moon druid must choose to use spell or wild shape.

NAAGLOSHII. Or "skinwalker". That's the term you were looking for. And yes, Injun Joe is the most amazing example of a Moon Druid type caster. Thanks for referencing The Dresden Files--best urban fantasy series ever. Or at least in the top 5.

I have only seen the circle of the land used as a multi class splash, where the wild shape won’t be useful as a combat tactic, and the character benefits from the extra spell slot.

I'm planning a one-shot or short campaign in the back of my note book, for a Land Druid (Wood Elf or Eladrin ) and Moon Druid (Ghostwise Halfling or Forest Gnome or Firbolg), I think this dynamic duo would be very interesting, especially if the character's personalities can play off each other for adventure, comedy and encounters.

The only feat you can take more than once is Elemental Mastery, it's not possible to get more than 1 Resilience. This is by design to ensure there is always at least 1 major save weakness for every character.
