You are correct! I'm still new to long-form content and I'm used to my shorts which are only a minute. Where I leave certain information out of a video in order to reveal it in the second one. Kind of like how in my assassin video I say they never miss, and then I reveal in the follow-up video a creature that was able to dodge their shots 😅 That was probably a mistake for the deep dives. I feel Warhammer has a lot of 'they are good, but they are kinda evil' or 'they are evil, but they are actually good or neutral if you think about it'... But Drukhari are just plain evil. They chose evil, birthed an evil god, and instead of changing their ways, they decided to go more evil and made a living out of it
@Logamer-tn6db2 жыл бұрын
While you are true, it is possible to sympathize with them, if only slightly. Most drukari in current 40k lore weren't even born during slaanesh's awakening. Instead they were born into the only life they have ever known, and were taught to be like this. They could have been normal eldar had they been born anywhere else. Sure it's possible to leave and become a craftworld eldar, but the process is difficult and most wouldn't survive it. You could be chosen to be a harlequin, but that's IF your chosen more or less on a whim. Although with Yvranie and the Ynnari can make it so they can live without the pain, but since Vect hates them I imagine he tries to hide that fact from most dark eldar.

You can understand how they got there, and somewhat... oddly feel bad about the souldrain they are under- but there are definetlly other ways to keep Slaanesh away than just overfeeding them with pain of others. The dark Eldar is like a rechargeable power bank for Slaanesh. Slaanesh drinks their souls, they rejuvenate themselves with the psychic energy produced by their tortured victims, the cycle goes on, it’s a literal food chain.

I “played” Dark Eldar as a kid in sixth grade and loved them. I’m 31 now and don’t play the game but am still fascinated by their lore. This was incredible to listen to! Incredible work!
@Bibitybopitybacon2 жыл бұрын
There's a pretty bit error in here. Dark elder souls are... leaky.. for lack of a better term. There's a hole in them, and She Who Thirsts has a straw in there slurping away. They found a way not to stop her from draining their souls for a time, but the refill them. When someone dies or is injured around them while they are in a state of heightened emotion, say, at a gladiatorial game, their souls refill. How does this work? Do they pull some of their soul back from She Who Thirsts? Do they drain the souls/life-force of those who suffer? Most likely the latter but we don't know for sure. As long as they keep themselves "topped up" they can basically live forever. They do tend to get more "Leaky " the older they get though. For a relatively young eldar the occasional gladiator game is more then enough to keep them healthy. For a twelve thousand year old Archon, thousands tortured to death every day might be needed. Just thought I'd toss this in there! Love your vids!

You're right he totally messed up a lot of lore regarding Slaanesh. At 12:33 there's completely wrong info. Slaanesh doesn't feed on pain, it "drinks" souls. A soul in WH being an energy signature in the Warp. So in a Webway that is completely isolated from the Warp emotion/energy released from the torture victim can be harnessed by Dark Eldar, as they are extremely psychically sensitive beings and thus replenish their own drained soul. There is absolutely no way an Eldar soul is being ignored by Slaanesh in favor of a random torture victim. She who thirsts was created by Eldar and covets their souls above everything else. Where the hell did he get that "lore" ? It's completely wrong.

Considering the extreme hierarchy of Eldari society, keep in mind that the majority of the victims the Drukhari torture are Eldar themselves. Also fun fact, the Eldar are probably one the of most liberal minded species in warhammer (practically on par with the Tau) as anyone who displays notable feats and wants to join the ways of the Dark Eldar are welcome, and in lore it is said that Drukhari do not discriminate who they torture. I imagine a lot of traitor mechanus would be interested in such twisted alchemy

I still think followers of Tzeentch might be the most free, as he only cares about that the great game runs further and even turning against him serves him. Tau: There is that caste system they have which defines most of their future life. With the Ethereal Caste (Aun) revealed as having most likely a kind of psychic mindcontrol over the other Castes I wouldn't be too sure that they are free. The exception of this and also of breaking some borders of ther Caste system down are the Farsight Enclaves. Eldari might really be one of the most liberate. Craftworld Eldari might choose their path (profession) and change between them. Some of those paths lead directly into one of the sub-factions, like the path of the Outcast or Harlequins and while it seams to be possible for a craftworld Eldari to join most sub-factions I'm unsure how welcome they might be to come back, especially after they joined the Drukhari. Also after joining it might get more difficult to change the path anymore, also especially after joining the Drukhari.

When I collected the Blood Ravens when I was younger, I pitched them against the Tyrannids and Chaos on table top and thought they were as bad as they got as an enemy (lore-wise). I love the dark eldar. I started collecting them after watching a roundtable with their designers Jess Goodwin and Phil Kelly in 2011. They talked about how the were psychic vampire pirates with heavy influences of dark fae, striking in the dark and disappearing before dawn... But I feel they lean far too hard on the torture porn aspect in the fluff since then. They don't just torture people! They do other stuff too! They get power from consuming life-force. The Dark Eldar, literally MurderFracked a Chaos god into existence, that's kind of insane. Awesome, but insane
@sev11202 жыл бұрын
I always viewed the Druchari as a sort of "evil-by-necessitt" type of villain, one where, sure they're evil, but you can understand WHY they do what they do. They're trying to postpone their own extinction by essentially over-feeding Slaanesh, and it must have worked considering how they're still around in the 41st Millennium. In my Opinion, if Slaanesh were to cease existing, then there is a non zero chance that they won't be AS evil
@evanlight25502 жыл бұрын
Well it’s not just for their own survival but they genuinely enjoy inflicting pain and suffering. If Slaanesh were to be defeated, the Dark Eldar will likely remain the same only without the worry of having their souls drained by She Who Thirsts
@nothuman30832 жыл бұрын
@@evanlight2550 so even worse with raids as they don't have to worry about dying

My view on the dark Eldar is this, if you an an asset worth more then torturing they will avoid doing it until you no longer have a use.

@@457dragon your welcome. It really is one of the best standalone books from black library. It's hillarious, very trazyn-y and is a good reminder that there really should be more books from xenos perspective. Welp, off im going, to report myself for xenophilia to the nearest inquisitor.

Excellent breakdown of the Drukhari. I'm writing a short story about the Drukhari attacking an agriworld of the Imperium, and all the majestic body horror shenanigans that entails. Pretty new to learning the lore of the 40k universe though, so this video has helped immensely in understanding the separate branches of the Drukhari, their motivations and allegiances as well as their military organisation. Thanks Wes
