In season show reviews sounds awesome, especially being on the road. Good luck with the Army, don't let your MOS lock you into learning or tasking. You can cross train, and doing so can often immensely boost your career. Marching drum corps taught me how to be flexible, and relearn large chunks of a show quickly. That skill will serve you well.

I'd be so devastating if the Cadets permanently folded. One of the original founding corps just gone like that. They were removed from the DCI website corp list and given all the legal issues they are in, things might be looking rough for them

Its pretty much confirmed... very sad no one thinks they are coming back anytime soon

If they do come back, it’ll be in name only. I hope they pull through too, but if they don’t they ended with a fantastic final season.

Curious to know what corps you are with this summer As a 51 year DCI alumni, I really appreciate your commentary on present day DCI Don't worry, I am not an old phart who thinks it was better in my day A few years ago I had someone claim '67 Troopers would beat any day modern corps, I responded with '67 Troopers couldn't beat modern day Pioneer

Personally I think seing a blog like video about the workings of drum corps would be really cool!

once the season is over, you should make a video watching your corps show and kinda reacting to it. it would be really cool to see how a staff member looks at a show and someone who's been with the ensemble and how they view it

With the army band stuff-take notes from EMC! I'm sure you already know this, but he had to remove a bunch of videos and had to leave the band because he wasn't actually allowed to use the band's resources or spaces for videos, purely because his content was monitized.

It’s heartbreaking to see what’s going on with the Cadets. The moment you said what was going on, I almost immediately thought of what happened with Spirit of Atlanta and why they were out during the 2022 season. As for Vanguard, I’m super excited to see them return to the field, and I’m hoping for an epic comeback to the point where I’ll be rooting for them! I’m hoping for a Vanguard win this year!

wow it's really cool that you're in the army band, i'm sure you already know but EMC productions was also in dci and army band. it might be interesting maybe talking or even collaborating with him since you both might be some of the only marching band content creators who have done that

If you get to a point where you’re in the army and are able to create content, I highly suggest researching EMC productions. You’re probably familiar with him, and if not, he has a lot of experience while being in the Marine Corps drum and bugle Corps. He had some issues. It might help looking into that to avoid some of the potential issues that are rose for him. Hope that helps.

I made a revelation about the design team overhaul of 2011 SCV leading into a championship run in 2018, what to know your thoughts about staff migrations in drum corps!
@Drums-yz4ss10 ай бұрын
Garfield’s present difficulties, if you are correct, date back some 30 years, so the 1990’s. It seems that their organization should not be penalized for the actions of individuals who haven’t been connected to Garfield for decades, Hopkins notwithstanding. It also seems to be judging an organization’s past by present standards. And good news about SCV and donors should not be responsible for the errors of a recipient’s organizational shortcomings.
@skraegorn731710 ай бұрын
One of the big issues with SCV was that they were giving away way too much through bingo. I’ve seen people accuse them of cooking the books; that’s not quite accurate. They didn’t cook their books because they weren’t even keeping good records in the first place. There was likely no foul play, just some really bad record keeping. They needed a serious overhaul of their accounting practices, and hopefully the letter of good standing means they’ve done that. About the dismissal notice, it does not mention YEA, CAE, or any other entities. They are still defendants, at least officially.

The big thing that many people have been talking about with the Cadets is that many of these for,er Cadets members have complained about a very toxic environment.

@CJsMusicTrumpet10 ай бұрын
I can't speak to the exact financial situation that SCV is currently in beyond the public documents, but there are some interesting numbers that can be read when looking through the submitted audits from 2022. Specifically that "Salaries" number. It's quite large and by far the biggest number out of all of the other functional expenses listed for the year.

What a horrible thing to say. Under old New Jersey law victims had two years to sue, and if they were underage until they turned 20. That law was changed to extend the statute of limitations in 2019 and the suit was filed sometime in 2020.
