I'm the backup drummer, so I only play once a month or so. We did this song last time I played, but I barely had time to listen to it. Being able to listen to it on repeat helps to better understand the song structure and fills. I really enjoy playing it!

Yea, usually "more" feels better to us drummers but isn't what feels best for the song...I get caught up in the worship and start playing all kinds of extra stuff sometimes. I've had to learn when to pull that back and when to go with it. Thanks for the comment. God bless you, too.

Not really a fair comment, being that unlike the original, this is a completely live recording without auto tune, overdubs, etc. (You can hardly even hear any vocal effects on their mics, it sounds very dry... no doubt sounded infinitely better in the house mix). They both have solid tone and even made decent efforts to adjust their vocal technique to fit the song.

Is it better to memorize a song or to read the music
@jtambunga15 жыл бұрын
It depends on the scenario. If you were going to a last-minute gig and didn't know the songs, you're definitely better off being able to read music. However, if you know the songs and are able to just play them from memory, that's when you make room for adding creativity to the parts (pending the creativity doesn't take away from the parts).

What the hell has happened to Christian music nowadays? It all sucks and sounds the same. The drum parts suck, this drum part is all floor Tom like a native beating on a log. Totally terrible
@jtambunga15 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your honest comment, Frank. I'll be honest, too. I prefer the worship music and drum parts from back in the Ron Kenoly days more than I like these parts, but this worship seems to be what the Lord is doing and using now so I'm going with it. Is there anything specific I can pray for you?
@sciencecolove28565 жыл бұрын
Hi frank dont look on the sound or beat of the drums...its all about the heart of worship of the drummer...he is totally a worshipping drummer
@Obi-Wan815 жыл бұрын
I also agree with you frank. Although a lot of the main song writers from the likes of elevation, Hillsong, bethel all write together with the likes of Matt redman, Chris tomlin, Michael w Smith, Tim Hughes, Martin Smith etc. Right there in the few names I’ve mentioned is about 95% of the entire Christian song writing base. And they all write the same sounding songs and have the same writing style. So yeah, you’re naturally going to get the same sounding stuff. What doesn’t help is that all those churches - bethel, Hillsong, elevation etc all LOOK the same also. Same style, same way of how people think church should be done. All the pastors have book deals, all the worship teams release albums and the churches themselves relentlessly do events and conferences all year round. Ask yourself the question - why is this? Answer - because most big churches out there are now businesses, rather than churches. The gospel is rarely preached anymore. Charles spurgeon once said - “if it takes a conference / event to get people into church, it’s going to take continuous conferences and events to keep them there”. Food for thought. Unfortunately most Modern day worship is about performance than intimacy with god. If you’re looking for something that is different in sound, check out some gospel music - Israel houghton, Marvin sapp, Kirk Franklin etc. Again, can be a bit performance based, but different in sound... I for one miss old school worship, with someone stood at the front with a guitar, not bothered whether things were ‘professional sounding’ etc. But again, most modern day worship is so performance orientated, that worship / churches like that Is simply looked down on and not considered ‘relevant’ anymore. Sad really...
@markrupsch99735 жыл бұрын
HAHA - agreed. This is the same drum part for every single song out right now. So boring.
@roymercer225 жыл бұрын
@@Obi-Wan81 Brilliantly put. I have stepped away from playing worship because of this exact reason. My wife doesn't understand but it's a battle i fight everyday. All of these "worship" bands try and write the next Oceans song and it shows. The modern church has definitely lost sight of authentic worship.
@pcdrumz1875 жыл бұрын
The musicians on stage are on point. The female vocals though. Ouch 😕. I get working with what you got but man its pitchy and inconsistant and sadly its a distraction, which is what you dont want in a worship set.
