Great lesson, Stewart! Question: What technique do you use with your foot for your kick drum on a samba or latin type beat? Thank you!
@stewartjean20665 жыл бұрын
Henwy2 great question! Generally for slower and quieter situations I play heel down and in faster/louder situations I play heel up. Sometimes I’m floating between the two techniques.

Can someone explain why the beat at 2:31 has 7 accents. Aren't the accents suppose to be in 2/3 or a 3/2 clave?

Finally. A guy who plays the fucking drum instead of explaining a bunch of shit with zero demo and a bunch of notations I can't believe the number of you tube guys who sit there and talk ABOUT music. JFC. Thank you. That's the music and the performance practice the demo and the theory - and and here you have a practice goal Because u decided to PLAY. Great job.

Is this an old video? Because there’s no such thing as clave in Basilian Samba. When I was in college teachers would call it clave too.
@mybrazilianguitar4 жыл бұрын
Stewart you are great player. Nice touch. But be careful guys with this information. The real samba clave is inverted. All instruments in the track are on the wrong side of the clave, what makes difficult for the drums to go against it.
@ivopiscevic2 жыл бұрын
what exactly do you mean ?
@jc3drums9162 жыл бұрын
Technically speaking, samba doesn't have clave. Clave is Cuban.
@mybrazilianguitar2 жыл бұрын
When I say clave, I'm actually talking about the tamborim. But to avoid more confusion (because you might know that the Brazilian "tamborim" is not the "tambourine") I'm borrowing the Cuban term.

Well....The feel is all wrong and the basic concept of Samba needs to be looked at deeper. This is more like Samba Rock of something you could use for people who are not really doing samba. Happens a lot where players from other countries don't teach the proper way to play ethnic music. At least you are putting it out there but in your videos you should probably just get people that really play this style.
