As my last video for 2024 I decided to shoot out another reaction video, since you guys seemed to really like the first one 🙏🥳! I hope you enjoy this one too and I wish you all a happy and healthy 2025 🤘❤!!

I agree with you. That guy is a notorious algorithm chaser and not someone that people should refer to for drumming pedagogy. YT is full of them.

I watched one of that dudes videos years ago and couldn't follow wtf he was even trying to get at. Seems like literally nothing has changed lmfao! Edit: Just wanted to add a thought. His whole video could be summed up in one sentence: Practice singles and doubles (whether that's paradiddles or 6 strokes or whatever) and orchestrate around the kit while maintaining proper technique. Nice lesson in theory but holy shit was that convoluted.

The drum teacher equivalent of arguing over “the greatest drummers of all time”….going to be difficult to arrive at any objectivity . I’m sure both of you could teach me something , and I will listen . I think you’re better than this . I’ll even subscribe today . I’ve had enough of the negativity on all things coming out of my country . Stay well everyone

I'm a beginner drummer. I've watched some of his videos and he has some decent videos out there. This one tho. He says "for you folks who are close to the beginning of your journey". Hey that's me!! And I have no idea what your doing! I don't think any of this is beginner material, but maybe I'm wrong? 🤷 I'm going to sub to you! I'm glad I found this video

Thanks for the subscription and checking out my content ❤. I too think 80/20 has some nice videos out there, but this one is kind of odd and definitely not aimed towards beginners...

Maybe this isn’t his most precise video, but check out his other ones. I admire that he is generous with his knowledge and also humble. I don’t mind reaction videos in principle, but keep in mind he has worked pretty hard to get where he is. Best Wishes

As said in the video, I DO like his channel and most of his videos for that matter. I already explained in another comment that I am genuinely watching these videos for the first time on camera and I wanted this lesson to be great - but it disappointed me. I think this video is below his standards and as a teacher I find the information confusing. I am positve in the future I will critique another 80/20 lesson and it might be amazing... Best wishes to you, too

@@SimonSpringerMusicif you like his channel and most of his videos, why did you pick this particular one which is below his standards to react to?
@SimonSpringerMusic13 күн бұрын
@@LixinQin I randomly picked it. As explained I wanted to react to something new and unseen. And that's what it was.

I get that some folks aren’t happy about negativity. But it is good to call out bad teaching, and the 80/20 vid is some really bad teaching.

I’ve known a lot of these influencer drummers are hacks and 80/20 is one of the worst offenders. Nice to see actual talented professional drummers calling these videos out.
@MrZineddin11 күн бұрын
yea man i have seen few videos of the 20/80 drummer the one that really got me is when he was trying to play a solo of Eric Moore and going in so many details in analyzing it, but it sounded like 0.5% like Eric Moore. Nothing against sharing knowledge yes but talking like you are the expert while actually having not much to offer is not right 😅

I think it's a great tool for beginners and intermediates to get some decent recording done without spending loads of money and having serious know-how. Plus some of the presets and effects are fun. But, yeah, agreed, as a pro KZbinr you should invest more time and money in serious recording equipment and skills. There are some other guys who sound surprisingly good with it, though...

Mr 80 is confusing as fck . Stick control is great . As are rudiments & pyramiding . On the kit foot ostinatos with some rudiments- simple but works for me with appropriate click divisions . Maybe I’m boring 🤪 & didn’t talk to lah lah

Why make these videos? I've dug your videos before, but you've also had clickbaity titles for example. Idk, I'm only 2:15 in, I'll continue watching, it's just not something I expected lol. Edit: I watched all of this and the Mike vid now, I understand a bit more now. Some of the most helpful reaction content out there already.
@SimonSpringerMusic17 күн бұрын
Thanks for the edit and the time to fully check out my reaction videos 🙏. It's NOT about negativity here - or putting others down. Far from it! I want to help students dissect lesson material and filter it for great and maybe not so useful information. My intent is to mainly point out stuff that is awesome. I had nothing bad to say about the Mike Johnston lesson. It was a great video. And I do like 80/20's channel, I think he has some great content out there. Unfortunately this lesson here is below his normal standards, in my humble opinion. I am genuinely watching these videos for the first time on camera and I wanted this lesson to be great - but it disapointed me. I am sure in the future I will critique another 80/20 lesson and it might be amazing! But this here is what it is and I cannot change my genuine reaction and honest opinion. I hope that I was still able to be very respectful and as objective as possible and I will never be shaming or hating 80/20 or any other teacher. And about the clickbait: Yes, sure, we all do that 😅. No worries here 😉. I loved the sensational title and it made me excited for the video.

@LixinQin15 күн бұрын
I think I get the point that he’s teaching a concept to test, evaluate and benchmark new technique, which is analogous to training AI to develop GO tactics by data, instead of programming the tactics directly. I agree the title is click-baity and inaccurate and the concept is a bit confusing to beginners, but as a pro and KZbinr yourself I’m sure you can totally get it. I think it would be more helpful to perhaps explain the confusing parts to beginners than to act confused. You are a much better teacher than an actor😂
@SimonSpringerMusic13 күн бұрын
That would have required more time and analysis than a first view reaction 😉. And that's what we're doing here... I totally agree with your thoughts. I, as many other viewers for sure, was just expecting a life changing warm up exercise. And that's the angle from which I critique the material.

So what are we doin here? Critiquing others? Is drumming going to turn into wrestling now? Perhaps we can all create goofy characters maybe wear some masks or make up and create rivalry, it will be great! I'm happy I found your channel you can thank 80/20, ya know.

This…is NOT a good direction for the drumming community. Find a better use of your time and expertise. Nate has been around for years and has provided tons of useful and insightful content. Be a positive influence. Reaction videos like this?!…not cool man.
@Sheepstealer892711 күн бұрын
I have less of an issue with the format of the video ( watched this one and the one reviewing a lesson from Mike Johnston) than I have with the some of the vitriol/comments being thrown around in the aftermath at Nate. I don't think that's really on Mr. Springer for creating this type of content, he has stated in his own video how much he appreciates and respects Nate and his channel. However just by the nature of the content shared this has opened a side of the community that is all to human but not as desirable to witness...maybe it's a good thing some of this stuff is coming to light, so then we address said issues and be better as a community.
