I played a strap drive for a few years, and did not like the slack that happens when playing quick doubles or triples on the bass drum. Not putting anybody's choice down, I just don't see the positive parts of playing a strap drive bass pedal at all anymore? I don't think their should be any movement in the pedal at all without the beater being able to move at the same time. Maybe that's just me?
@SimonSpringerMusic2 күн бұрын
With the FP9 there is really no measurable "slack" while using straps. I just listed this is a possible downside towards direct drive pedals, but I really have no problems with that on the FP9.
@MichaelBrown-x1qКүн бұрын
@SimonSpringerMusic okay, that's great then. I really like these double pedals and these are on my list of the 3 I am choosing from! I love the look, the hardware, the beaters, and the fact it comes with different weights to slide under the beaters. But I still won't go back to strap drive double pedals. I believe you when you say you don't have trouble with the strap, but I believe I would. Great video though, thank you!!

Tune your snare very precise. If it rings, bring your reso head up in steps and listen for each step. Next step bring the batterhead up, this dries the sound. If you find yourself at too high tuning for your liking, bring the screw closest to you a full rotation backwards. This step can also be used on lugg no2. After that moongel. You can always try 1/3 of a moongel under your snarewires.
@SimonSpringerMusic8 күн бұрын
Nice 😎. What do you mean by "moongel UNDER your snarewires"??
@andreasjonsson80758 күн бұрын
@SimonSpringerMusic exactly that! Under the beed where the strands are connected too
@andreasjonsson80758 күн бұрын
@SimonSpringerMusic You can also loosen a nut in the drum, poke a hole in a moongel, put it on and then screw the nut in place. Oh. And while there, check tension on rest of your nuts! 🙏🏼

@SimonSpringerMusic10 күн бұрын
Yes, bottom heads higher. Nothing specific here, I don't tune to certain pitches or so. Just trying to get nice intervals (4ths, 5ths...) between toms and snare adding up to a nice chord. More trial and error than "science".

This…is NOT a good direction for the drumming community. Find a better use of your time and expertise. Nate has been around for years and has provided tons of useful and insightful content. Be a positive influence. Reaction videos like this?!…not cool man.
@Sheepstealer892713 күн бұрын
I have less of an issue with the format of the video ( watched this one and the one reviewing a lesson from Mike Johnston) than I have with the some of the vitriol/comments being thrown around in the aftermath at Nate. I don't think that's really on Mr. Springer for creating this type of content, he has stated in his own video how much he appreciates and respects Nate and his channel. However just by the nature of the content shared this has opened a side of the community that is all to human but not as desirable to witness...maybe it's a good thing some of this stuff is coming to light, so then we address said issues and be better as a community.

I have a lot of questions!! How do you tune each drumhead? top and bottom the same? Do the hammered tube version sound different than imperial lugs? The different tunings sound great
@SimonSpringerMusic16 күн бұрын
Bottom is pretty tight (around 3-4 half turns on every screw) and stays the same throughout all the demos. The top then does all the different tensions from super low to super high. I have no idea how much the tube lugs would actually change the sound, but I would assume the difference is rather small.

I think I get the point that he’s teaching a concept to test, evaluate and benchmark new technique, which is analogous to training AI to develop GO tactics by data, instead of programming the tactics directly. I agree the title is click-baity and inaccurate and the concept is a bit confusing to beginners, but as a pro and KZbinr yourself I’m sure you can totally get it. I think it would be more helpful to perhaps explain the confusing parts to beginners than to act confused. You are a much better teacher than an actor😂

That would have required more time and analysis than a first view reaction 😉. And that's what we're doing here... I totally agree with your thoughts. I, as many other viewers for sure, was just expecting a life changing warm up exercise. And that's the angle from which I critique the material.

Binder clips and a handkerchief make a super versatile system for drum dampening. Either folded/rolled up to the size and orientation you want, or just simply cover the whole drum head with it and clip it into place. Seemed so obvious after I started doing it. I also really like rings cut out from old drum heads for sure. Nice vid.

Edit: I watched all of this and the Mike vid now, I understand a bit more now. Some of the most helpful reaction content out there already.
@SimonSpringerMusic19 күн бұрын
Thanks for the edit and the time to fully check out my reaction videos 🙏. It's NOT about negativity here - or putting others down. Far from it! I want to help students dissect lesson material and filter it for great and maybe not so useful information. My intent is to mainly point out stuff that is awesome. I had nothing bad to say about the Mike Johnston lesson. It was a great video. And I do like 80/20's channel, I think he has some great content out there. Unfortunately this lesson here is below his normal standards, in my humble opinion. I am genuinely watching these videos for the first time on camera and I wanted this lesson to be great - but it disapointed me. I am sure in the future I will critique another 80/20 lesson and it might be amazing! But this here is what it is and I cannot change my genuine reaction and honest opinion. I hope that I was still able to be very respectful and as objective as possible and I will never be shaming or hating 80/20 or any other teacher. And about the clickbait: Yes, sure, we all do that 😅. No worries here 😉. I loved the sensational title and it made me excited for the video.
