We've had a couple of cool gigs this summer with RIVER 🥳. Of two of those there's some video footage and I am happy to share ALL my drum solos of those two shows 😅. So yeah, 10 minutes of drums, drums, drums.... Enjoy 😉. First clip was caught on his phone by Nick Stolterfoht, the rest is taken from the livestreams of the venues (Porgy and Bess Vienna, July 27th and Outreach Music Festival Schwaz, August 1st).

Fantastic Solo! Very interesting musical ideas. I'm curious how you manage to play such intense phrases while also keeping the bar count in your head. I notice if I have a long solo and am counting the bars, I can't completely lose myself because I'm counting and making sure to come back on the correct bar.

Hi and thank you 🙏🥳!! I am NOT counting bars 😉. Over time you develop a strong sense on the length of four bar phrases. So you'll always know, where you are between four bars. In fact with some time, you'll really feel longer forms as well (8 bars, 16, 32...). When my solo comes to an end, I give the cue to end it. So it's not a predetermined solo length - I decide, when I'm done 😉. It's just important to keep the form - in this case (first tune: Le Giret) as I've said a four bar phrase (or even 2 bars, but let's make it four). How many of those four bars we play, that's what I decide while playing.

Yeah Simon!! Great!! But I'm still not accustomed to you playing match grip. 😂

Which snare drum did you use on these Simon curious ?

I think it is a Yamaha Hybrid birch 14x5,5 in the Porgy clips.

It's the venue's snares. At Porgy it was a Yamaha Birch Custom Absolute 14"x5.5" and at Outreach a Mapex Saturn Pro 14"x5.5".
