This is my last and final video on this subject! I promise, but I am impressed by the classic hardware. This video includes a shout out to Michael Perry! Michael gave me some old Ludwig classic stand parts and helped me build two more cymbal stands.
Now it’s time to sell all those crazy light weight Ludwig hi stands because this Tama hi hat is really sweet and lightweight!
Thank you for watching!

Earl, well done video! I appreciate the insights into the hardware, music and some history of the hardware. The take down and set up was amazing! My hardware is from the mid ‘80s...strong and heavy! 21lbs is the total weight of your sets hardware!?! I’m jealous!
@earldrum
@earldrum 5 жыл бұрын
Paul, thanks for watching! Yes, it was a decision to buy the lightweight hardware because I need to protect my back. I’m not getting younger! I have a lot of heavy stands if I need that weight for a gig or show. But for gigging around town this is all I need! And 21 pounds was the weight ... amazing! By the way ... the cost for 2 cymbal stands, one snare and hi hat stand cost me under $250 brand new! That is not bad!

Is there any way to make markings on the stands to help set it up faster? Cool video and the gig went well? Nice video!!
@earldrum
@earldrum 5 жыл бұрын
Zax the tom, snare and hi hat has height markers for easy setup. The cymbal stands pack best by just compacting the stand. Thus means the memory locks are a little overkill. You could take a sharpie marker to it, but I constantly change things! Thanks for watching my friend!

Nice video, good to get some real world experiences of the tama gear. Does the tom stand choke the drums at all ? and does it get a bit tight for space to arrange tom/cymbal/hat stands in the same area ?
@earldrum
@earldrum 5 жыл бұрын
Michael those are great questions. I found the tom stand to not effect the resonance of the tom like a traditional heavy snare stand does. It kinda floats in the basket, so I was happy with the sound. By the way I found the same thing with my old vintage Ludwig flat base stand that used before I got this new stand. It is a bit of a trick arranging everything if you add the microphone stand for the snare drum, but it was doable. For the money and the loss of pounds carrying hardware made it a great value and I think the cymbals sound a little bit better. Thank you for watching and the great questions!
@Michael127gerard
@Michael127gerard 5 жыл бұрын
Many thanks, Is the tom stand a cymbal stand base combined with the snare basket ?
@earldrum
@earldrum 5 жыл бұрын
Michael, I think the tom stand base is slightly shorter than the cymbal stand base and the snare basket is different in that it holds 10”-14” toms and the rod is longer than the snare basket (holds 12”-15”) and rod which is shorter. The snare stand base is more traditional than flat. I hope this helps! 😀👍🏻

It's pretty awkward that you call yourself the hammer 🤨
@earldrum
@earldrum 4 жыл бұрын
Neal Babbitt ... why is that? A lead singer in band gave me that nickname and it stuck. So what’s awkward about my nickname to you?
@NEALBABBITT
@NEALBABBITT 4 жыл бұрын
@@earldrum it would be like Bruce Springsteen calling himself the boss, or Neil Peart calling himself the professor. It's cool when other people call you by a name, but really pretentious when you talk about yourself in third person. Just my opinion.
@earldrum
@earldrum 4 жыл бұрын
Neal Babbitt ... like I said, a lead singer in a few band in the late 1980s gave me the name and I kept it. 30 years ago it became how I was known ... Sorry, So it’s not awkward or pretentious in my book. But thanks for watching my video.
