I saw ABR play at a tiny VFW in 2004/2005 and Matt was in a cast halfway up his calf. The only noticeable impact it made was the grimace on his face as he crushed through their set list. The level of effort he brought to that show for 50ish idiots in South Carolina was endearing and made me an ABR fan for life🤘

The rhythmic double bass is phenomenal. Back in High School (early 2000’s), I was really into metalcore and extreme metal. Over the years my musical taste shifted and mellowed out. It was not until I found your channel that I got back into the technical metal of years past with a new appreciation and awareness of the technical and physical wizardry of these drummers. Been here since the the Zepplin and Meshuggah era. Thanks Andrew from Northeast USA.

I got to meet him at my first ABR show. I was standing in the back during the opener. And he just walked up. We chatted. Shook hands and he let me get a picture. Great experience. He is my favorite drummer in Metalcore.

Great video! Matt as always been one of my favorite drummers since I discovered them back in 2007 or 2008. He is so technical, and it's funny you mention transcribing his music. If I remember correctly, he said that he does in fact write all of his music out as he is creating it. Said it takes 6+ hours to write a minutes worth of music! They also released several books that have all tabs of the guitars as well as Matt's drums transcribed. On another note, I would recommend watching Alex Camarena First Born+Interlude. He is the drummer for Silent Planet, who in an of themselves are a super underrated band. Alex and Matt are pretty different in styles, but 100% equal in talent. Alex is much less of a strict structured drummer, and more groovy, in the moment drummer. Hoping to see it on the channel sometime!

Matt actually built that drum studio for himself, he did all the hardwood on the walls and the flooring I believe. Such an amazing dude all around, I met the band a few years ago. Got VIP tickets to their show and it came with a photo-op and signing, I was late because of traffic so I missed it. I asked the photographer if there was still a chance I could get the pic or at least a few things signed. JB (the lead guitarist) came out and took me backstage and out to their tour bus so I could get a picture with the band and they couldn't have been any nicer or more humble. Matt has been my favorite drummer for over 10 years now, I'm glad to see other people enjoy his drumming too.

Matt is my favorite drummer. Love how you speak to his double kick style. I vastly prefer it to much of the "machine-gun" style that over saturates much of the heaviest metal genres. Two of their most underrated songs IMO are Float and Broken Promises. Both are very melodic songs with slower sections that showcase just how tasteful Matt really is. I wish they would do this with those two.

React to the Drum Cam for Dig by Mudvayne. They are a band who came out around the time Slipknot did, metal with bits of nu-metal and prog, went on hiatus for about 10 years and started a reunion tour some months ago. And they FINALLY have a proper drum cam with Matt, their drummer during one of their shows (Rockville 2021, their "MuDvAyNe Official" channel).
