That rhythm section with Fogerty's songwriting, guitar playing, and singular voice, and you have one of the greatest American rock groups of all time.

At the time, CCR were considered the best band on earth. They conquered Europe & Japan & were on top of the world. Unfortunately, like so many other bands of the day, they burned out ( They released THREE classic lp's in ONE calendar year!) & broke up soon after. But the amount of classics they made in that time & the fact those songs still get played to this day regularly show they stood the test of time.

Doug "Cosmo" Clifford - very under rated - a friend of mine refers to the curse of Woodstock - a number of those who performed there crashed shortly afterwards including CCR - the egos were prevalent John Fogerty left in 1972 after Mardi Gras the tracks written by the others are in my view a bit average the stand out on that album is Sweet Hitch Hiker

Considdering the time this unimaginable festival and the circumstances all around it I asume, that 90% of modern bands could be proud to reach just half of the greatness CCR proofed here. John Foggerty never fails vocally and just shredders your soul with his singing. Good old times - never forget your anchestras. Greetings from Germany from a 64 old guy.

The question of who my earliest influences are is tight, but the answer is simple: Ringo Starr and Cosmo Clifford. Now, I don’t mean to brag, but I’m gonna. Cosmo played and was endorsed by Camco drums. I own 1961 Oaklawn Illinois Camco drums, which puts me into an exclusive club that I invented, it exists only in my mind, and you are not invited. The only other drummers I know of who played Camco besides Doug Clifford is the great Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys, and Nick Ceroli from the Tijuana Brass. All of them legendary. I’m the youngest member of the club. Edit: Doug played 18” hi hats 😮

I remember reading that all the mics used at Woodstock were SM58s. Given the chaos of a gigantic festival show it is amazing that these recordings sound as good as they do.

CCR were one of the most prodigious bands of the mid-late 60's Putting out multiple albums in a matter of 4-5 yrs The only other band of that era that comes to mind (although I'm sure there were others) is the Jimi Hendrix Experience having released 3 albums in 18 months and the 3rd was a double LP haha This is a very cool take on the song much blusier than the original Very raw it's just some dudes on stage playing real music with real instruments Thx for this blast from the past Andrew 🤔✌️🤘🖤🧐

What an incredible band! Possibly the most amazing part, is that theyre not mentioned in the same breaths as the big ones … Zeppelin, Doors, Sabbath, etc. When I was little, I was into Glen Campbell, Buffy Ste Marie, Strauss Waltzes and Tom T Hall. Then, at age 4, around 1971-2, I heard CCRs Cosmo’s Factory, and it was a life-changing experience! They were my introduction to rock, followed closely by Steppenwolf. CCR were absolute staples on the radio all through my life! As a band, they had a complicated relationship. Like Pink Floyd, there came a time when the rest of the band wanted to rest on their laurels for a bit, and one of them had to keep the momentum up. For Floyd it was Roger Waters. For CCR it was John. Originally it was his brother Tom’s band, but John’s voice was so much more powerful, so he became the singer, and leader. As others mentioned, they had 1 hit album in 1968, 3 hit albums in one year, 1969, and John began to feel he needed to take the helm, as the others wanted to relax. You can really feel that in this video! That look Doug gave John at the end lol wow! They did keep it very close to their studio version, from their 1968 debut album. Cosmo’s Factory was John, and the rest were along for the ride. Their absolute peak! The 1970 album is so good you felt like it was a greatest hits album! John learned to play piano, sax and harmonica for various songs on the album. Hit after hit! One of those perfect albums that so many bands shoot for and never get. One of those things that he two following albums, Pendulum and Mardi Gras, just couldnt match. After Mardi Gras, the band had had enough, and split, nothing amicable about it. Their record label, Fantasy Records, sued the band, the band sued John, back and forth, for almost 3 decades, making it impossible for them to play their own music. What a mess, and a damn shame. But oh, what a band they were, for that brief time, from 1968-72. Its just too bad that so little genuine live footage exists, that isnt TV performances, where theyre essentially miming playing the studio track. Thanks Andrew! Great reaction! So glad you enjoyed this one!

What a powerful, amazing performance. And a very informative reaction from Andrew. But I would like to add, if you like this song, you simply have to check out the utterly astounding cover of it by Angelina Jordan, the yt video that is in black and white and has 12 m views.

To me it looks like he ditched the drum stick and reached over to the right of the snare to grab another.
