You can say all you want about the 3 instrumentalists in the band(and rightfully so), but you absolutely cannot understate the importance of Plant to the band. His voice brought so much character to their music and his presence and charisma on stage massively impacted the band’s success. His innate sense of melody and the way his vocals flowed perfectly along with the music in every song. Led Zeppelin really owes so much to Robert Plant.

LZ is for me the GOAT band ever. I just can't explain why, but The Rover has always been one of my favorite LZ songs. As Andrew said, it does not seem a difficult song to play, but it is so well executed (tone, riffs, solo, sound). It is simply an amazing song and I doubt anyone could play it (sounding) like this. For me, it is in the top 10 LZ songs! Thanks for reviewing this Andrew.

Believe it or not, this song started as an acoustic blues number way back during the sessions for the 3rd album. It would later get worked on during the Houses of the Holy sessions and finally find it's way to Physical Graffiti. Jimmy has a nice and neat solo and, in my opinion, Jonesy's single note bass line beneath the moving guitar riffs give a hint of the direction of a lot of future 80s hits which were played from a rhythm standpoint. The thing folks don't often realize is that Bonham and Jimmy practiced quite often with just the two of them, which meant either could go off and still find each other seamlessly. Then, throw Jones into the mix, who could be rock solid, steady or blaze his own trail on occasion and it becomes musical alchemy. To my knowledge, only snippets of this was played live; often they'd start this before switching up to play Sick Again.

With every song or album from a band, when listening to the drummer, there will be moments where the listener might say, "Well, that was kinda cool." One might say it every so often throughout an album. However, with Bonham, a person will probably say it, like every 15 or 30 seconds of every song on the album. He is that good.

Half of the reason that Bonham sounds so powerful is that, on every album, the drums are recorded PERFECTLY! Of course how he plays makes them sound so good, but the recordings capture all the power plus the details! Has there ever been a drum sound better recorded for a rock band? It's 45-50 years later and still no one has matched the LZ drum sound. Jimmy Page was a master producer to be able to do this...

@@user-gl5kj1fm5x I hadn't heard about comments from them about this - will have to check. I've got a theory that the reason people like John Bonham, and for that matter Bill Ward (who knew each other) had so much feel and swing - is that they never learned to play following a metronome or any mechanical device. They are both naturally capable of being rock-solid in terms of rhythm of course. But not particularly interested. Instead they have a human element of swing to their play.

Amazing track. I always thought that Physical Graffiti should've been just a trimmed down single album of new material from '74/75, but hell it's still pretty awesome as a double LP.

Any Bonzo will impress. The triplet master. And the king of the groove beat. If you get a chance check out Zepparella the all girl Zep cover band. They do a very good cover of this song. Best of the Holiday season to you and yours sir. Always enjoy your reaction vids.

So that's at least 2 girl bands which are Zep covers. Lez Zeppelin is the other.

@@scottzappa9314 Yes they are really good too. Check out Zepparella. The girl on lead guitar Gretchen I believe is fantastic and does an amazing Jimmy Page cover.

Loved hearing Bonham again! Great analysis but you mention Iron Maiden in a Zep reaction??? You're forgiven 😊
