Steve Marriott's voice is so powerful and he was a such a great perfomer on stage. This is their manifest song...one of their best.

Fun fact - lead singer and guitarist Steve Marriott played The Artful Dodger in the stage production of the musical "Oliver" in London when he was a teenager.

The Small Faces were big in Australia about 1967 / 68 with 3 hits.....Itchicoo Park, Tin Soldier and Lazy Sunday Afternoon.....i'm sure they would have been well known in NZ as well......your imported music scene was way ahead of ours, except for 10,000 Guitars and everyone thinking they could play and sing. lol Then we had The Small Faces and The Faces, but no explanation or facts, which made it all very confusing.

Lazy Sunday Afternoon, Sh-la-la-la-lee or Itchycoo Park were also very well known outside the UK

The ones I remember as a Brit too. In fact I don't remember Tin Soldier featuring at the time.

Andrew, Just a thought Imagine that Kenny, Ian, & Plonk Lane had agreed to Frampton joining The Small Faces, WOW what a sound that would have been. Fun fact for you my mum used to babysit Kenny when he was a baby, I went to school with Kenny's cousins and when old enough (Ha Ha) would partake of the occasional libation with Kenny's dad and uncles (they were friends with my dad) good times.

I’m partial to the cover by Earthquake on Bezerkly records. They were kind of Who protégés for a minute. Still, I loved this performance.

Rip Steve Mariott. He was Jimmy Page's first choice to sing for Zeppelin. Humble Pie blew the roof off when they were here in '72 and had to do three encores.

Before The Small Faces in England , for clear concise rock drumming we had Carmine Apiece and Vanilla Fudge from the USA.....New Jersey i believe. Only fault with Carmines early stuff is it was totally written out and rehearsed / perfected down to the smallest variable to complement the bands then " experimental" sound.....no jamming at all. lol

A great track from my childhood, still great. As an independent viewer in Sweden observing the "competition" between the UK and the USA around 1970, those few artists travelling in between are of special interest. Check the career of Jimi Hendrix, the Sparks and PP Arnold! It is a pattern with a meaning, not sure what...
@Bristolcentaurus9 күн бұрын
you missed PP Arnold she was "found" by the Stones in the USA and brought to London in much the same way Chas Chandler brought Jimi Hendricks to London there are many many brothers and sisters of colour who got their break in the UK because the industry in the US was not interested.

Love that song. Unfortunately P.P. Arnold is buried deeply in the mix. The Small Faces were a great band with an incredible singer: "Steve Marriott". I can recommend to listen to "Lazy Sunday Afternoon". There's also a nice rough 60s live recording of "Sha-la-la-la-lee": kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKTYfKCnht6MiJY (60s "proto-punk"?).
