That girl playing the bass looks like she went to school for pharmacology but she's playing the bass like a stoned metalhead virtuoso from the 80s and I'm absolutely loving the dissonance. Whoever you are, keep killing it out there, you fucking legend.

That clip of Danny sitting in with those kids is just classic. I've watched it so many times over the past few years and it still makes me smile. You just know it's all about having fun, playing music and in Danny's case: letting the kids have the spotlight while he enjoys being there.

I used to do semi-professional live concert photography in New England. I've met A LOT of drummers. I can't count the number of them who've said "If I had Danny's kit, I could play that good!" (Their grammar, not mine, BTW) Then Danny sits down at a 5-piece that isn't even his and ABSOLUTELY MERCS The Pot with an actually really solid music academy band. It's not about the kit. It's about you.

The thing that I love and respect about Danny is that he has his own "Voice". Even when Danny played with Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, and he played Neil's part, it still sounded like Danny "Filling in" and not trying to sound exactly like Neil. Of course, Danny sounds unique, just in his choice of drums, but it's also his playing style. He's a great example of finding your own "voice" as a drummer.

I got the pleasure of going backstage at a tool show. Got to meet everyone except for Maynard(he bolted right at the end of the show)and their techs. Everyone was so nice! It was an awesome unforgettable experience for my brother and I. Talked to Danny’s tech for awhile. He went through his whole kit for us. He said his bass drums weighs like 100 lbs. they had these back braces with carabiners to pick it up! Adam Jones had this little motorcycle he was riding up and down the hallways. It was hilarious! Anyway awesome video!

Growing up with Tool from the beginning, I always thought Maynard was the driving force of the band. Now in the age of Fear Inoculum, all these cycles later.. after this grand journey, I now see that Danny Carry is the pulse of the band. All is built from his drumkit.. outwards. Absolute Legend. Spiral Out🤘

Adam Jones said from the very beginning that Danny is the core of the band. "When you have someone playing those kinds of time signatures, you can just strum chords over it, and it still sounds cool. Coming up with great riffs over them is just a bonus."

You're a drum teacher, look at his posture, his arm placement, the elbows, the wrists, the finger control, his shoulders, but his posture is so good; back straight, hips aligned with his kit and his throne and kick drum pedals/legs, legs must be aligned on his throne so they're not too strained

2 things jump out at me from the very start of the Pneuma vid.. First he seems to switch roll styles going from american 14:46 to 1/2 ‘n 1/2 14:48 (Thumbs on side to thumbs almost or on top of stick).. and I understand why, and approve.. Secondly, he seems to grip the stick at the bottom maybe even as far as the bottom tip being in his palm.. Which i don’t get, but still approve lol (because a lot of times i look down and see that the sticks have migrated up my grip with the ends in the palms of my hands). Thank You Danny Carey. Say that 3 times as fast as you can.. “ends in the palms of my hands” “Ennsin the palmzof my hans” “Innzindapomsa myhanz”
@StephenTaylorDrums

A lot of cats that regularly play large venues will wind up gripping from the butt of the stick. It's a leverage thing. When you're having to play that loud, choking back on the stick helps you hit harder. Great observations!

From what I heard, AI can create lyrics, melody and harmony with ease....but coming up with an interesting drum part for said music........HORRIBLE. Says something about us drummers being labeled as 'knuckle-draggers'........Drumming is sacred and ancient. There were 2 sticks in the forest before anything else. Let that sink in. Danny is a saint among drummers....such a great personality. Drumming has the ability to identify/relate to all the loose yarn strands of a composition(the melodic parts) and crochets them all into a beautiful tapestry of sonic goodness.......There is something special about drum parts that mimic the melodic personality of a composition, rather than taking on the sewing machine mentality of just having a monotonous simple pulse beat. When drumming can be released from such a stagnant position of just keeping pulse time to actual melodic mimicking which involves poly-rhythms, THAT is where great magic occurs.
