Who would give this a thumbs down? I started playing drums at 12, with Neil Peart, I’m 49 now. His independence is unreal, I bet Dream Theater are kicking themselves in the ass for not letting him in the band. My favorite drummer on earth behind Neil Peart, Stewart Copeland, Steve Gadd, the guy is great. BTW, you look exactly like my brother 😂

Greatest limb independence I've ever seen. Phenomenal, world class drummer!

I attended a clinic in 2004 featuring TL - amazing drummer & he explained that even though drums are one of the oldest instruments, the drum set continues to evolve with all sorts of configurations & sound choices, as opposed to a wind or string instrument for example, & with 4 limb independence there are many percussive patterns to explore.

Part human. Part machine. Well, mostly machine. Feet as fast and precise as his hands. Mind-boggling talent and musicality. For us mere mortals this may be of some comfort: when seeing Thomas play grooves in a band situation, he sounds like a drummer -- a really good drummer albeit -- but rather than the technical master he so freakishly is, a drummer working a gig. Dream. Practice. But chopping wood and keeping time will always be what the band and audience desire.

Would love to see you react to Stan Bicknell’s drumming. I’m a guitarist, and I was lucky enough to catch Stan Bicknell’s playing at a drum festival. I learnt what a moeller system/technique is, and it’s usually practiced on the hands as you mentioned. This guy does it on his feet and demonstrated why he uses it rather than double or single strokes - something to do with maintaining dynamics.. and it does sound fantastic!!

And after his workshop, I felt like garbage haha, the worst drummer in the world. Just saying. Man, the guy is unique and I believe he is the most advanced/technical drummer out there. Cheers mate! @austin57324 жыл бұрын
To truly understand gavin one needs to be able to pay attention to the small details. Like the way he plays a ghost note or when he plays quarter notes on a ride cymbal when most people would play 8th notes. He does these little things that make a big difference. And a lot of people dont hear that kind of stuff. They want a big 1000 hit RIP down the Tom's or blast beats on the kick drum. All that flashy stuff that gavin can do but chooses not too. That's what really.makes gavin the best ever in my opinionNo doubt, it's all about the overall song which is why I love him. He tries to find gaps in the song where he can do something small to embellish the rest of the song and it's always so tasty.
