I have the complete setup off a 98 camaro on the back of my 68 firebird, and didnt need to stagger. Works great. Had issues with the parking brake making noise so i ditched them.
@Coverman668 жыл бұрын
what type of noise?... did the car have a 4 link set up in the rear?
@InvincibleExtremes8 жыл бұрын
+coverman66 naw. its simple, sounded like horrible bearing grinding, but once i removed the parking shoe it all went away... it was because the rear axle seal failed and diff fluid mixed with road dust to make a cement like paste... besides that, the brakes work great. once I figure out how to clean off the crazy sticky paste I'll replace the brake shoes... not in a hurry because I dont have any parking brake cables anyway...

coverman66 for the back? 98 camaro, front was c5 corvette, at least on my firebird. The 67 tempest got 2014 mustang rear disc brakes because it has a 9 inch.

@coverman66 I have a few quick questions... 1st I have c5 calipers for my 85 Monte Carlo gbody does it work the same or is it the same as camaro/fire bird set up? Also I'm using s10 blazer spindles & hubs, backing plates with hybrid bracket and the rest of the hardware to mount it... 2nd The money question is will my off set better same as the gbody 5/4 .75 because I bought 24" forged rins? Third on the rear I'm going with moser axles 28 spline with 14" rotor in front "corvette rotors front " " 13.5 corvette rotors" in back will my off sets still be 5/4 .75 ?

Hey Terry what mater cylinder and proportioning valve did you use for this conversion. My 72 has power disk/drum now

I believe with this brake system 17" rim are the minimum that can be used (right??). Other than that did this change the size of the wheels and tires you can put on your Chevelle? What size rims and tires do you have on your set up? Just asking to see if this changes the rim/tire size I can put on without spacers. Thanks! Great videos...
@Coverman667 жыл бұрын
thanks brotha LaWayne, to do this conversion you have to have 16 inch wheels or better, im rocking 18x8 in the front and 18x10s in the back tires are 245/45 and 285/40. hope this helps brotha ....

@@Coverman66 I'm building a 68 GTO, loved the body bushing videos bty!👍 I have a 69 elco rear end in it now. Was wondering if the 10 inch rear tires rub? No mini tub? I see that the Disc Stud Holes are are much larger than the studs. Would that cause a problem? A possibility of the studs braking after a while? Thnx
@Coverman668 жыл бұрын
i looked on my car and the holes on the rotors are pretty big as well.. when you tighten that wheel down those rotors wont move at all.. as long as the rotor bore fits over the center axle flange, you should be good to go.. let me know how that works out brotha..
@bagger2013jm6 жыл бұрын
Just an FYI, I just swapped over the fronts to the LS1 98-02 setup just like Terry is talking about. Just now installing everything. I had a hard time finding info on what wheel studs to use. Finally came across a post. Dorman 610-157 wheel studs work great if you use your original hub.

hey terry great videos. my 68 chevelle have both rear shocks behind the axle. cant you tell me which side or sides backing plates and caliper i need. thanks for the help.
@Coverman667 жыл бұрын
thanks brotha Paul you will need a right and Left because there is no stagger, the camaro has a stagger shock setup thats why you need 2 left side backing plates..

thanks Earnest.. i did fab up a booster from a 02 camaro.. i welded the shaft to make longer and drilled holes to match the 4 studs coming out the firewall.

@johnnydangerous96468 жыл бұрын
Hey bro did you have to use an adapter for the 98 camaro brakes to the original brake lines on the car??
@Coverman668 жыл бұрын
Whats up Johnny, you will need the calipers and the rear backing plates, BRP with have everything else you will need in the kit.. remember if you putting this on a camaro or firebird with a stagger, you have to get two left sides calipers and backing plates.. depending on the car you might have to get an adapter fitting, but for my chevelle the line screwed right in the caliper.. try it first.. you might get lucky. anything else i can help you with im a email away brotha.. thanks for viewing..

Hope all is well on your end. Got a question. I did a conversion kit on my rear brakes. I also put a hydraulic hydroboost on my CHEVELLE (1971 convertible). For some reason I cannot get pressure on my rear brakes. I replaced my porportioning valve but I can't get any pressure. Any ideas?
@Coverman668 жыл бұрын
+Elite one sorry it took so long but i just got back in town.. lets see, if your not getting good pressure out of the bleeding screws, it might be the t block over the rear axle or the master cylinder.. did you bench bleed the master cylinder before you installed?t

whats good Mar.., i did use the E-brake cables and tied them into the stock E-brake setup.. i will see if i can grab some pics off the car.. it would be easier to see than to explain.. did you get the 2 cable that connect to the backing plates?
@OhMar12108 жыл бұрын
Yes. I have both cables. Some pics would be very helpful. Thanks again
@Coverman668 жыл бұрын
no problem.. thats good you got the cables.. its should be that difficult..
@OhMar12108 жыл бұрын
The issue isn't with the cables. Its the parking cable brackets that I need help with. From I've seen and read, the factory Parking Cable Brackets from 98-02 are not usable on my 72 rear end. I was wondering what you did to make them work. Because, the factory parking Brake brackets are on the drum backing plate. And, were removed with the drums. I've only seen one guy on the net fabricate his own out of angle iron. Thanks for your time
@Coverman668 жыл бұрын
Mar, im going to do a quick video showing how i did it this weekend.. i didnt realize people where having issues hooking the E-brake setup.. do you have the stock long cable that connect the 2 cables coming from the rear wheels?

i was thinking about that.. you got one that sticks out a lil more. smaller in diameter but longer.. how radical is your cam?
@eliteone48778 жыл бұрын
Yes I did. Everything has been replaced including the master cylinder. Nothing has changed.
@Coverman668 жыл бұрын
+Elite one there are many variables.. was this car a front disk/rear drum? if your getting a good flow of fluid out the back with the bleeder screw open, then it could be the caliper.. if your getting a drip when your press the brake pedal with the bleeder screw open then it can be the distribution block or master cylinder.. both of which i have seen new one go bad right out the box.. i would start with the basics and make sure the system has been bled properly.. keep me posted.. im curious brotha..
@jtravis3010 жыл бұрын
First of all like all of the other comments wanna give thanks for sharing. Just bought a 71 Malibu and looking to replicate your suspension. Did you powder coat your calipers ?
@Coverman6610 жыл бұрын
Whats going on J.. thanks for the compliment, and i really appreciate it. The calipers im using are from a 98 to 02 camaro/firebird. i simply went to the auto parts store had them mix up that color, the color of the calipers is the color i jabbed and going to paint the chevelle, thats why you see that brownish orange on some of the car. then i shot it with a coat of u-pol clear. you can have the guy who mixes paint put it in a rattle spray can.. thats how i jabbed my entire car and it look professional.

@Coverman669 жыл бұрын
Whats up Carlando? im not sure if the 97 f body style would work with the plates from BRP. 98 was the somewhat re-design f body, i think they went with different calipers on the cars. if you have a junkyard near you, you can pick up 98-02 calipers for very cheap.. let me know how you make out..

+Carlando George From what I have read , the LT1 brakes will work , however they are not as efficient plus they do not have the parking brake inside of the rotor , which is more desired. I am looking to do this to my '73 Camaro , so it will stop as well as my '99. I can testify , the LS1 cars have some mighty fine brakes. Good luck , and happy wrenching!

at first i did use the 98-02 booster, the booster worked but it was old and needed to be replaced. i bought one from cpp. i figured to get another, fab it up to work and hope its in decent condition, im better off getting new.
