speaking of beats and paradiddles, my favourite beat to play on the drums is switching your right hand to the kick drum. so your doing a paradiddle between the kick and snare while keeping time with the right hand. i got it from slipknots song "the surfacing" its got a mad feel and sounds sick! ive used it in my band before.

Franz, I know what you Mean!! I had a 50 Year Hiatus. I'm 70 YO, had to let go in 1969, living in apartments, our garage Band of HD Buddies (where we all kinda learned ou instruments Together) broke up with life changes, each going off in different directions. Then after I commented to my wife of 44 years in 2018 , that I would like to go to a Music Studio just the Bang The Drums for awhile, she got me a Cheapo Kit (Gammon) for a Xmas Surprise. It took me a few weeks to set up the kit in my basement, played to My Music with a lot of Rust, and then got Re-Hooked !!. 3 of my 5 Grandkids (2 girls and 1 Boy) are old enough to really like "playing" them for a little while anyway. Tickles my heart. BTW, I gave that kit to my grandson and purchased A Used PDP Concept Maple kit and new upgraded cymbals, new Drum heads, 2 new Snares, some new hardware (Kick Pedals, etc.) even a Cowbell :):). I'm enjoying playing in retirement about 1 hour a day to My Music. This a year Old, some I hope you got your new Kit and enjoying it. FYI, I am limited by arthritic conditions (that forced me to retire after 48 years of woking), in my spine, Hips, and in other joints, but I keep playing for as long as I can. I don't know how old you are, but my best Health related advice I can offer to all out there: is to Hydrate .... drink water - I never really did (mostly coffee ). Water will serve your body well. Stay Well all in this Madness.

Fav is Linear, However, as Dorothea , The GodMother of Drumming, says, You have got to do Your Diddles. I don't read Drumming Music, played by Ear since I first took my first lesson in 1966. I'm 70 YO now, and started to play again after 50 years (1969-2019). I never played Gigs - HS buddies in a Garage Band in 1967-1969, then a Hiatus, and the resurrection as a Retirement Pleasure / Hobby. I really enjoy these Videos from Gabe, and others On Line. I have learned so very much about Drum playing, Drum Tuning, choice of Heads and Drums that I never knew back in the Day. I play to My Music , about 1 hour a day in my finished basement with the hope to carry the Beat, create some of my own Fills, and keep up with pros. My Music consists of: CCR, Petty, Clapton, Beatles, Stones, Mellencamp, Eagles, Etheridge, Springsteen, Animals, Bryds, Paul Revere & The Raiders, Cars, Talking Heads, Fleetwood Mac, even Bonnie Rait and Linda Ronstadt , and others (I Hit Wonders ..... Dirty Water, The Spirit In The Sky, etc.). Can't touch Moon, Bonham, Copeland, Porcaro (Toto), Gaad, etc... they are on the far Next Level. I also have difficulties with Dino Danelli (Rascals), an underrated and very skilled Drummer. It is a Pleasure in life to be able to play an instrument. Sonny & Cher said it best....."And The Beat Goes On".

I think there is another key but far the most important: Ability to confidently improvise and perform in actual live band performance. This can't be taught in a classroom /video and even drum masterclass programs. You are still a beginner even if you can play like Benny Greb or Travis Barker but seldomly going out at playing with other musicians
