If Dream Theatre struggled to keep tempo with Mangini’s polyrhythms, then Virgil would have broken up the band from Petrucci, Myung and Rudess feeling inadequate as musicians.

Probably the best thing was Virgil not getting that gig in the end. Mangini fits in for sure, but Virgil is in a world of his own when it comes to ability and timing. Even for a band like dream theater, I think Virgil would’ve been a headache of a challenge for them to write with.

Virgil is certainly one of the most unattainable drummers of all time. His super-personal style is the result of an extreme technique resulting from a maniacal study. I suffer deeply when I see his performances because I realize that I would not be able to play even a beat. 😲🥴👍💪👏😁
