What a beautiful masterclass by a master of the instrument. Thank you Mr.Wackerman and Drum channel. Your playing on Watermelon in Easterhay live with Zappa is one of my favorite songs to listen to.

Great video. I learned odd time signatures long ago, but I still love to hear multiple explanations and points of view from different highly celebrated musicians like Chad.

Very nice lesson! Cool angle to think first about the 2 vs 3 pattern, to find locations for snare and bass accents. I recently found this way of thinking about grooves, to give a feel of both say 5 and 4, if you’re in 5/4. Vs just playing a 4/4 groove and adding one hi hat or crash at the end.

Wow, great to see YOU here, Mr. Jonas Hellborg, one of the greatest bassists and musicians of our time, coming from old Sverige! I love your record with Tony Williams and the Soldier String Quartet. I listen to it often. So haunting. A masterpiece.

Does he have two different coloured eyes? Or is his pupil perma dilated like Bowie ?
@sosimple35852 жыл бұрын
They're different ... because Chad sees straight time with one and odd time with the other. He has the omni vision for all round precision.

Years ago, he was performing at NAMM with Allan Holdsworth. In the middle of a tune, his stick snapped and a splinter flew into his eye. Somehow, he finished the tune before he was rushed to the hospital. Thankfully, his family found a specialist who was able to save his eye.

The title of this video, "Odd-Time Signatures" is incorrect. It's just "Odd Time Signatures", or it could possibly be "Odd Time-Signatures", which would be unusual but not wrong. "Odd-Time Signatures" makes "Odd-Time" into one word and "Signatures" into another, as if you were signing your name at an unusual hour of the day. "Time Signatures" is one word on its own. We would call it a lexicalized phrase. So it could be hyphenated, but usually isn't. And we are talking about time signatures which are odd, hence "Odd Time-Signatures"

Just put all the parts at once, it`s of no use to treat a lesson over one month that one can miss the other parts because yt suggestion algorithms plus there is already too much material online. I mean, i understand you have to put content constantly but if this chanel is to help drummers you should consider this more.

This man look like he's drained and doesn't have any energy whatsoever he's just tapping the drums which sounds horrible

Chad has always been quiet and very reserved. Frank Zappa goes from a crazy wildman Bozzio to quiet machine-like cyborg Chad. I grew up with the Wackermans and played drums along Chad in middle school. Chad's father taught in the Seal Beach school district McGaugh elementary. I played drums with both Chad and John Jon from 2nd grade to 8th grade. Chad was the exact same guy in grade school. Except his hair graying a bit. His wife, mother and his father all have died in the last 5 years. It's been tough for him I'm sure... Funny to think Chad used to come to my birthday parties when we were in grade school. Fun times

Yeah, all that rhythm and musical notation, what a drag.
@metalpuppet5798 Жыл бұрын
That works in a tune with like 2 or 3 time signatures (and even there sometimes it doesnt work). Once shit gets complicated you have to count. Even in 4/4
