Tenors are generally easier to have clean than snares (especially when there are 9 snares) which is usually why after a clean snare solo or feature people get really excited. BlueQ is definitely great though and get plenty of love.
@dmr3e8 жыл бұрын
@kyle I would disagree that tenors are "easier" to clean. Yes snare line has more people but tenors have more drums if you want to go that route. Back to the original post though, I was referring to the parts where the tenors should have gotten more love on their wicked solo versus split eights between 9 players. But anywho, people will like what they want I guess.
@KyleHutBB8 жыл бұрын
dmr3e I was saying that because of the articulation of the drums, snares are harder to clean. Anyone can see that. Also the snares split 16ths, not 8s.

Can anyone tell me about the different sticks used by the snare line? (brand, model, etc.) Also, that was some amazing drumming by the whole section. My high school drumline instructor, Neal Flum, marched snare with Spirit of Atlanta in '82 and marched tenor with the Blue Devils in '83. He talked me into auditioning for Spirit in the spring of '89 when I was 15. I auditioned just for the heck of it and whoever it was that auditioned me said I could probably march in the tenor section but I wussed out. Looking back I wish I had taken it more seriously.
@drewper7310 жыл бұрын
***** Do you know the different sizes of the sticks?
@drewper7310 жыл бұрын
***** Okay. Cool. Man, I've been out of the marching game way too long I guess because I've never heard of either one of those sticks. I only marched in high school but I was an instructor for my high school drumline and other high school drumlines for about 3 years after graduating high school in 1991. Back then, you might have 8 snares using 5 different types of sticks. I used the Dennis Delucia sticks before he had his Vic Firth signature stick. Some guys used Pro Mark DC-3's I think. It wasn't long after I graduated that my instructor made everyone switch to the same stick. Thanks for the info.
@drewper7310 жыл бұрын
Okay. When they started playing with the smaller sticks I noticed a difference in sound and in the look of the stick. So you're in high school? Have you ever auditioned for All-State Band? The material that's used for the audition can be challenging but that's what makes it fun. There's usually a snare solo or two, plus a few handpicked rudiments and of course you're supposed to play each rudiment in the style of open-closed-open, or slow-fast-slow, making the transitions as smooth as possible. If you've never auditioned, you should look into it. If you do well enough you get to miss a few days of school as you prepare for a concert with lots of the best high school musicians in your state. I auditioned all 4 years but I didn't make it my freshman year. Let me know how it goes, if it goes.

The black sticks are called blast sticks if i'm correct. They're essentially brushes for a marching snare.
