Thank you to our patron Gary C for this awesome selection... for the next few fridays we will be listening to the album "Secret Treaties" by Blue Oyster Cult. This was an awesome start and I cannot wait to hear the rest. This was dope! I know "Dont fear the reaper" and "godzilla" but that is it.

They have so many different sounds/styles but you can always tell it’s them. Buck Dharma’s guitar is so amazing, unexpected, bluesy, jazzy and flat out rockin’. He’s got the gift of taste in spades. BÖC - Extra Terrestrial Intelligence BÖC - Take Me Away BÖC - The Vigil BÖC - Dancin’ in The Ruins BÖC - Before The Kiss, A Redcap BÖC - Flaming Telepaths BÖC - I Love The Night BÖC - Shooting Shark BÖC - Veteran Of The Psychic Wars BÖC - Black Blade BÖC - Burnin’ For You BÖC - Cities On Flame BÖC - Mirrors BÖC - Unknown Tongue BÖC - Fire Of Unknown Origin

I was seeing this band a lot, in the early ‘70’s, a truly great American rock band. Pearlman wrote most of their lyrics, and they were all connected to his epic poem Imaginos…a sprawling sci-fi narrative with many episodes and characters reflected in these songs. An evil alien power manipulating individual humans throughout history, effecting our history. Looking forward to Dominance And Submission, absolute killer rock…and then there’s more! Their best album 👍

Thank you, yet left me wanting more.... Deep Purple's "Child in Time" musician genius, vocals. Live for Japan TV mid '70s. l first heard this on reaction and couldn't believe it...ran onto the street and turned this black guy, utility worker, onto Deep Purple's Child in Time. So happy.

Patti Smith wrote the lyrics for BOC. Her longtime beau in the 70's was Cult keyboardist Allen Lanier. "Dominance And Submission" is coming up next, a big flat slab of mid-70's proto-punk. You're gonna like that one! Thanks for posting this.

"I'd like to do it to your daughter on a dirt road". Man only BOC could have a line like that. Such bizarre poetry. "See me in the blue sky bag and meet me by the sea". Too much. Imaginos. IMHO, the best live band ever. I have seen them live many times throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s and they are always mesmerizing. The original wall of guitars. But Lee, do yourself a favor and listen to the studio version of Subhuman. Yes, explore Secret Treaties first, then do the live versions. And I agree, BOC is like hard rock-prog; they invented a lot of riffs and rhythms that were later used by other bands and genres.

Good songs by a great band that should already be in the R&RHOF, IMO. Here is my list of the band's greatest songs, L33, which doesn't include the ones you know: " Cities On Flame With Rock and Roll" " Burnin' For You" "This Ain't the Summer of Love" "Veteran of the Psychic Wars" "I Love the Night" "E.T.I. (Extra Terrestrial Intelligence)" " Morning Final" and " Tenderloin." I think you'll love BOC. ❤✌

9:45 the original title of the song was Blue Öyster Cult, but they thought it was corny to have a song named after the band. They eventually renamed it back to Blue Öyster Cult and with extra lyrics on the Imaginos concept album. Imaginos is a whole other journey. Albert Bouchard completed the Imaginos trilogy last year.

Blue Öyster Cult in the first half of the 70s were almost halfway between the Doors and Steppenwolf, with a bit of prog thrown in. You should try their 1980 album Cultösaurus Erectus, it might surprise you because it's a bit of a departure from that formula! Start with "Black Blade" and "Monsters", which are linked together (the latter features big guitar riffs followed by jazzy parts with sax solo).

Secret Treaties is the only album Buck Dharma doesn't sing on. He's the one who sings Reaper, Burnin' for You & Godzilla (with Bloom). Each song on Secret Treaties transitions into the next à la Dark Side of the Moon. It's meant to be played straight through. Enjoy the journey.

gotta do the first LP dude, sets the phantasmagorical spooky BÖC scene perfectly. their earlier stuff as ‘The Stalk Forrest Group’ is great also. Patti Smith was in a thing with BÖC keyboardist Allen Lanier for a while & penned lyrics for a handful of their tunes over the years.

The Subhuman is one of those where the studio version is just as good, and very different, from the live version. You'll have fun with Secret Treaties. You should not skip the studio version of The Subhuman. And from the way you think, you would really like the live version of Veteran of the Physic Wars.
