The deep dark hole when he was near the bottom, before the more hopeful "Cover Me Up"; it's heart-wrenching and hauntingly beautiful. There's a version on one of his solo albums now, too, IIRC.

These two songs hit hard and I’m not in recovery. I’ve got empathy for those that are. Thanks Joel M and Lee. Great songs.

Jason Isbell harkens back to the 70s era singer- songwriters, brilliant lyrics sweet music, great stuff
@billbitterman94875 ай бұрын
Jason Isbell is an amazing songwriter. One of the best out there these days. These songs have him on acoustic guitar but he is an excellent guitarist and often takes the lead. The other guitarist is Sadler Vaden who is also outstanding. I saw Isbell in early 2023 and his band is outstanding and songs are great. If more "country" music was like this I would listen more but Isbell and the like are a bright spot in the world of country and Americana genres. His album The Nashville Sound is also excellent. You have to be prepared for the lyrics of his songs. His songs If We Were Vampires and Elephant are sometimes gut-wrenching yet brilliant. There is just a depth to his art that not many writers have

Try Sturgill Simpson. He has a Willie/Waylon vibe. He and Jason are my go to ‘country’ artists.

I’m a hard rock and prog fan, and Jason Isbell is one of my top 3 favorite artists. Can’t stop seeing him live. Ridiculous songwriter. Please check out King of Oklahoma also from ACL. Love you, bro. Keep at it. As you age, recovery or not, your friends eventually wither down to a handful of people who are like real family. It will get better.

Love coming here to hear new music that needs to be heard by everyone. We all have something we'd like kept in the dark, but shining the light gives us power over it. I appreciate powerful ,meaningful songs, so thanks Joel M. And thanks Lee for this place where we can share. Blessings all.

Finally... been waiting for you to get around to Jason Isbell. He is arguably the best songwriter out there these days. Just great, and a really good guitarist as well. Check out "King of Oklahoma," or "Elephant" if you want the heavier sad stuff. Or "If You Insist" or "Codiene" if you want something with bit more humor to it.

The woman who ‘saved’ him (Amanda Shires) is the fiddle player. She later became his wife. She’s a singer/songwriter as well and has some great tunes herself. I’ll second those recommending more Isbell, as well as his previous band, The Drive-By Truckers. ‘Elephant’ and ‘Flying Over Water’ by JI and ‘Outfit’, ‘Decoration Day’, ‘Lookout Mountain’ and ‘Sinkhole’ by the DBTs. Cheers!

For Jason's guitar work, check out Overseas and King of Oklahoma. Live of course. Great versions from the new Live at the Ryman vol 2. He's got quite a few songs that could make the strongest person cry, and even the ones that sound happy tend to deal with heavy subjects

I'm sorry I missed this.Jason and Amanda are beautiful people. The reference "no one leaves,till someone needs medical attention", is referring to lovemaking! Jason was just getting sober, after being dismissed from The Drive by Truckers for his drinking and drugging. Amanda Shires who grew up playing in her family's bluegrass band, and had her own solo career and band. Met Jason while performing on the same ticket, and helped him,then married him. So the song is about her. While they both have career's separate from each other,she does play in his group The 400 Unit. He is one of the best songwriters around, and a sneaky virtuoso on guitar! Hope you get to dive deep into his music, there are some rockers!✌️&❤

The reason for you still being here, in addition to being there for your beautiful family, is this Channel itself. You are a blessing, young brother. You have such an empathetic heart to go with your creative, fertile mind. You are an absolute force-of-creation, and it’s pretty unlimited as to what the years hold in store for you. I’ll be excited to see it, and will be praying for you along the way 🙏 ✌️ 💪 🎶

I imagine life-long friends add a lot to a person's life experience, but I wouldn't know. The older generation experiences a lot of loss as age takes old friends away. "Emotional control" elicits in some people a revulsion, since they derive a lot of value from emotional experience. They are, essentially, thrill seekers, who see emotion as a source of pleasure not to be defiled by controls and calculations. The actor's art is all about emotional control, though. And most people learn that it's necessary for one to control oneself, especially one's actions, but one's feelings, too, as the latter is usually connected directly to the former. Then, on the far end of the scale are the magicians, who must insist on perfect self-control; not only of actions, but feelings, thoughts, and imagination, as well! We all sit somewhere along the scale as determined by our natural proclivities...IOW, what's the most fun! When we learn otherwise, something changes within us, and we become different than we were before, whether we like it or not. Different people may have different capacities for learning--some, by virtue of greater intelligence, learn faster than others.

I think you might have missed what he said. It wasn't that he went into the bathroom and didn't come out until someone needs medical help or the magnolias bloom. He said to his girlfriend to put her boots under the bed and we aren't leaving the room until someone needs medical help or the magnolias bloom. Making love.
