Do a "Reba" from the 90s! Your recognition and appreciation of the Zappa influence throughout your Phish reactions and love of Zappa makes me think a '90s "Reba" would be a great choice. Here's an excellent one with archival video from 06/19/95: kzbin.info/www/bejne/boKQhqmrgK1jaZI Relisten to "Inca Roads" off-air before doing Reba for a Phish Fry Saturday sometime. If you haven't seen a video of Zappa performing it live, that would be an incredible 1-2 reaction-video sequence. "Inca Roads" Live '74: kzbin.info/www/bejne/raLTaGR6hK9ml7s That version of "Reba" might get blocked, though, as a band archive release. Your willingness to do no-video Phish is great, BTW. That is less likely to get blocked and getting to pick based on quality of audio and performance only frees you up to do some amazing performances that just aren't on video, like a lot of "A Live One." There is some great recent stuff on KZbin, but if you want to focus on the 90s, "video optional" is absolutely the way to do it. The light show is great, but it's about the music in the end.

They really need to be to pull off all that he does. Seeing him play though -- you need to look very carefully at his finesse, because he's the opposite of a showy drummer. Peace, Broseph ❤

To your point of saying what a tease. What’s amazing is because most of these jams are improvised and unique to each time it’s played, that even when you’ve seen or heard one of these song 20 times, they keep you on the edge of your seat and you never know when it’s gonna pop off. 🫠

commenting around 9 minutes in here when you comment on recognizing Page and Mike more in this one. This is really one of those bands that is so good because of all 4 of them. You really can't replace any of them, and the band wouldnt be Phish without the 4 of those weirdo virtuosos. Their ability to introduce a theme in the middle of a long improvisation, and then have the other band members cling on and move together is what makes them so special. So glad to have seen them as many times as I have and glad to see youre digging the good shit! Pretty much any 1993/1994 Reba, Divided Sky, or Fluffhead will be the next classics you wanna check next

If you're sticking to the 90s, the Bathtub Gin from their festival called The Great Went, aka "The Went Gin", is absolutely essential. Trey falls into this ridiculous ear worm of a riff and the band rides an improvisitional wave through the end. While there is never any consensus on the "best Phish" as you've no doubt seen in these comments weekly, many of us consider this a Mount Rushmore jam. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3fMdahjp7ONqKssi=VDn9biSk5FYCCt55

fyi in case no one else has said it, this is the first thing you've heard from them that goes truly, decidedly "type 2," what the community has dubbed a jam that leaves the original song's key/progression structure and creates something new out of thin air. Definitely doesn't always mean dissonant or evil Phish (I personally tend to prefer those that don't go dissonant or evil, but they definitely have their time and place), and type 2 jams are where the true magic happens
@katzpdx2 ай бұрын
Fun fact about Page. He wanted to be in the band when he brought to the play at Goddard College, but Trey envisioned a two guitar band (which they were when they were for the couple of years ) with no keyboard. When Trey and Fishman went on a trip to Europe, Mike taught him the songs they had to date....and pretty much got himself into the band. Or something like that.

They started covering Peaches en Regalia in 1986. The band was very influenced by Zappa, King Crimson, etc. I have long said that Phish is a prog rock band disguised as.a jam band. FYI, around 6:30 in your vid is the normal beginning of the song.

You have got to do 9/14/99 Boise. Either “Down with Disease “ or AC/DC Bag”. Right up your alley and definitely edgy
