Dude, this guy is the cleanest, tightest, most consistent drummer I've ever seen. I was never great, but this guy makes me question whether I was even half decent. Good God.

El Estepario does over play, that’s why on some of his videos he puts a warning up that this is not how the song is played! He overplays them because he can and no one else could! He’s showing everyone that he is absolutely the best and through countless seconds, minutes, hours and years of hard work and dedication, still doesn’t settle in where he is but continues to be better than the previous day!ps. One thing I like about your reaction videos is that you give a big enough screen of EL to see what’s going on and also you don’t stop the video 5,000 times! You comment and give props throughout the whole video while letting it play through so we can enjoy not only you commenting but get to enjoy the whole entire song without interruptions!

He's the best freestyle drummer I've seen in modern times on KZbin but he does over play and breaks all kinds of rules which does always sound cool and hype AF but unsustainable for a whole set live...keep in mind like I said this is a video and sound engineering is most definitely being implemented to spice it up.

I dabbled in drums when I was younger. Learning to drum is like climbing a mountain. The higher you go, the better your skills and the cleaner your technique. This guy makes me realize that I wasn't climbing the mountain at all. I was still in the parking lot. Absolutely unreal skill

Ridiculously good! And considering how many hits we know he can do incredibly quick, he pulls it back a lot ! Dude oozes flavour and you can see how he is just one with the beat! You might just get computer sounds out of him on a podcast. "Loading drum machine". Dude is an absolute machine!

I heard that when you plug a 1/4 inch jack into his ear and then into an amp, you hear those old style dial-up phone sounds,...and then the music starts. My goodness this fella is GOOD! Almost an AI drum machine. But AI couldn't recreate, or even keep up with this.

The people that say he “over plays” are the people that want to complain about ANYTHING. How’s he “over playing” by adding his own touch and most if not ALL the time improving the song he’s playing. When people are threatened by something different or better they look to knock it down a few pegs to make themselves feel better about it. Well this dude if not perfect, goddamn just about PERFECT. I can’t find any flaws whatsoever in this WIZARDS playing of the drums. Jealousy is a wicked thing and people will lash out when they can’t match up. In my opinion the guy is a drum god and I’m saying that being a HUGE Rush fan for decades and decades. Neil is one of those guys on my Mount Rushmore of drummers. When I found this guy awhile back and have been watching him for a few this guy is going up on MT Rushmore for sure.

Wow the transitions are out of this world. He always puts a spin on things which makes him unique. Would love to hear his back story. This is a guy who loves drums and practices daily. He can make any song his own and NO he doesn’t try to much; it’s just him implementing his own touch!! The triple bass is out of control as well. The rhythm he has is off the chain!! Bring more to the channel!!

There are so many who talk about how easy he makes it look. I won't deny that, but it also shows the years of dedication he has put into his practice to GET to the level he is at. Be it the covers with his bits of improvisation almost making it like a live performance with personal flair. Or even his one handed stuff that makes people think "oh he's slowed it down" which he has proved numerous times is false. I would personally love to see a podcast between you and him, that would be epic on so many levels.

But, he never gave me the perception of feel... Now, my favorite ( Band ) drummer is Danny Carrey.... Along with his band mates of course. But... Respect for my favorite recording Drummer.

@michaelmwm222

The vast majority of those who say he overplays are not musicians ( or musically inclined). Which is actually fitting because he caters to those who make up that group ( & sub group). He plays for the people who know what they are looking at...or listening to...as they are the ones whom it is more impressive to impress! Sure, his taste appears to live in speed drumming, but he can play a song note-for-note with the best of them (better, actaully). &, for the initiated, what lies within all of that speed... is pure genius! He does with one hand & a skeleton-crew of a set up, what most cant even do with two hands while SURROUNDED by drums/instruments. Through variation in tempo & time signatures/ timing, limb independence, technique, theory & creativity (getting the most out of each instrument) he demonstrates what can be done! &, when compared against what has been done/is being done.... well... there is no comparison! In case there are any doubters of the concept, This is what comes of a unified consciousness ~ when the heart & mind are one. DREAM BIG...THINK BIG...BE BIG!

He was in Saratoga for a while, which is a rather big-ish band, but apparently left because he wanted to focus on his own project of evolving his drumming and creating content, and touring with a band was too time consuming.

His limb independence is that of a God. It's like he splits his brain into 1/4's and individually controls each limb. (Like his video where he plays 4 completely separate beats.) That and when he plays a song, he adds to it. Yes the original is great, it's the original, but he puts his own stamp on it and so the amazing thing is he can do it to almost any song, of any genre.

Long comment here for the person doing the reaction...... You're the one that I go to when I wanna see a drummer reacting to this guy. I'm not a drummer. I'm a guitar player. I can appreciate what this guy is doing because there is nothing like a great drummer Behind you when you're playing guitar. Watching your reactions to this guy reminds me of my reactions when I'm watching Paul Gilbert Or Steve Vai or Vito Bratta. I Watch those guys and I realize no matter how good I get I'm Not even playing the same game let alone being in the same league. And trying to explain the intricacies of what these guys are doing to somebody that doesn't play guitar Is like speaking English to somebody that only understands Chinese. So when I'm watching you reacting to this guy And you look at the camera and you say something like are you guys seeing what's happening here?....... That's entertainment for me because you're being hit With the same thing from this guy as as I'm being hit with when I see Steve perform tender surrender or I see Paul Gilbert do a 10 minute improvised guitar solo in the middle of while my guitar gently weeps. I just find it very cool. So my question for you is this. As a drummer, is this guy as good as Buddy Rich? Is he as good as the professor? Do I say something blasphemous and ask..... is he better? I've never seen anybody doing what this guy does.

This dude is a fucking monster and I think he adapts and transitions so well that the naysayers have to try to find a fault in his drumming or technique. Good luck ... there are none. They should take his hard work and the results and try to apply those strengths into their own grooves ... haters will be haters. PLEASE get an interview with this guy, you will be one of the first in a very very long line of people that are going to take great interest in his story. He has a recent video that he talks about it, highly recommended view of that. Humble dude the works hard honing his craft, how can you not want to emulate the results he gets? Rock on!

How did he get this way? By years and years and years of very slow practice he gets his perfection and speed down. I do agree that he does not have "flavor" when compared to many of the great drummers. We call it "chemistry." He fits in anywhere and everywhere in his genre. He can't play jazz because he's not jazz-trained. However, jazz-trained drummers have the ability to play anything, but you can tell the difference between them. This guy is a machine. He's perfected himself to be a drum machine. While that's good, I look and listen to the drummer to see where he fits in a band. Am I listening to a machine, or am I listening to some badass chemistry with the other musicians? It's the sound that everyone has become accustomed to. Let me provide you an example. Cheap Trick. They fired Bun E. Carlos and replaced him with the guitar player's son. Many years later, at the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, they played together for the first time in several years without any rehearsal. No problem. It flowed. The chemistry returned, and it sounded like CHEAP TRICK. You cannot replicate the chemistry a band has created. It's a solution that is mixed with the individual ingredients that create the recipe for success. Being technical is important, but if you cannot add the flavor, then why be impressed?

I like him alot... as a drummer of 35 yrs... he is super fast and tight (sometimes a little off on time signature; only whenever he is trying to put too much fill into a spot where it really shouldn't be....) but his fundamentals are really solid and speed is off the charts... but he does over play from time to time, but I would too if I had his channel with his subs and his skills... if he just played a lick for lack Danny Carey polytythm or something tight as hell it would impress me more than fills where they shouldn't be.... (didn't hear that in this song) but this song was an A.... solid A...

This man is from a different universe. It’s not just how clean or fast. It also about how much content this man puts out. He puts out song after song. Half of them one fucking handed. No drummer on KZbin even comes close. I thought I played the drums. And he’s rather humble considering. Very complimentary of other drummers. This guy is going to be extremely famous. And I mean FAMOUS!! And all you drummers who says he over plays, never establishes a pocket, speeds things up, slows things down. Is cheating somehow. All of he haters need to just zip it and practice a whole lot more. That’s what this guy did. Cause that’s what it takes. But this is a level of drumming that only a handful of drummers will ever reach. He is a drum god. Well let’s just say every beat and ghost note and blast. Is god like. Amen.

In this video he is not overplaying at all and in the videos where he does overplay, it's on purpose. He is just taking license to throw in extreme stuff purely to exhibit his technical skills. I highly doubt he would overplay that much in a serious performance situation with an actual band. He has amazing clarity in every stroke. So much so that it seems like everything is the same dynamic level. Not sure if that is intentional or not. It could be that I just missed the videos where he has used dynamics more often. I think his physical make up and conditioning helps alot also. Having that core strength creates a center balance that allows each of his limbs to function optimally in coordination with each other. And the last thing is lots and lots of focused practice and good recording equipment and techniques help a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if he is using some sort of gating which creates that unreal evenness of each stroke

If you were american you would have millions of followers, thats for sure. But to me lacks of musicality, is pure speed. If you speak Spanish and listen to any interview he clearly says that he doesnt want to be a good musician but a drummer virtuoso… he is clearly there.

He actually won 2 of the biggest drum contests in the world at an early age, which is crazy because he’s still really young and then took time off and traveled but still continued to work hard on his craft!!! There are so many bands out there that would beg for him but El marches to the beat of a different drummer ( pun intended) and is working on his new project. I just hope he still has time in between to continue to bring us his videos because I look forward to them every day!

I like the dude. He’s a really talented drummer. His speed and effortless playing is what a lot of people are impressed by. Alongside the fact he has a minimal drum kit. All the being said, one thing that would be cool to see him do is play to something with more dynamics. Maybe some big band stuff that switches between tempos and different genres of music.

This guy is a badass been around a lot of musicians being that my mother managed bands and booked for local venues as I grew up, there’s a big difference between someone who has the energy and someone who learned it lol
