There is no "usual" Steve Miller sound. He is talented in any genre he feels like playing!

Mercury blues is completely reminiscent of the early Steve Miller Band sound. Fly like an Eagle was to stay ahead of the times. Good job Steve

Steve Miller is a born and raised Texas boy so you're gonna get some good ol' down home music mixed in. Love it.

Fun fact- on Take the Money, Everytime he mentions someplace in Texas, the claps are a callback to Deep in Heart of Texas.

@@kweile4339 - Same here! I'm born-and-raised Texas girl, and a huge SMB fan from his early beginnings! It really kinda makes me wanna facepalm that I didn't catch that reference from the Get-Go! DUH!!! After all these years, I will now hear this song differently! than before!

Great album, thanks 😊 bought it when it was released in 1976, I recorded it on cassette because we went on a geological field trip and all the time we were driving we listened to it in our VW Beetle, music can bring back such fond memories 🎶🎸

Yes Mr. MIller is quite eclectic. He's not all just Texas Blues. Probably one reason he became good friends with McCartney.

Rock'n Me is my personal official theme song and soundtrack for my junior high school (now middle school) years. I started junior high in 1976, and the student council regularly put on noon hour discos/sock hops at Friday lunch hour, with a DJ playing vinyl records. The first one I went to, the first song happened to be Rock'n Me, and that scene of a darkened gym with the DJ's perch being the only light source has always stayed with me. I even had a flashback of that decades later when a band I was in played Rock'n Me at a dance that was held in a darkened gym.

There were some big radio hits on this album that got a lot of airplay, but I like the deeper cuts more. The Window, Sweet Maree, Mercury Blues are so cool. A slice of Americana and a showcase of Steve's versatility.

Steve Miller is from Dallas. What a great talent. I'm from Ft. Worth (a huge city next door). Now, I live in Austin. We have a bronze statue of Stevie Ray Vaughan here. Steve Miller - so good. Dallas seriously needs to put up a statue of Steve Miller. After he passes.

He recorded enough songs for a double album but decided to split it up so you really need to continue with book of dreams cause it’s just a continuation of fly like an eagle, bunch of hits and killer deep cuts, you won’t be disappointed

Americana music is always a "blend" of gospel, country, blues, jazz, and American rock-a-billy. If one song sounds like Simon and Garfunkel and the next song sounds like Foghat or Bad Company, and then do punkish/country song, that is all normal. In the late 70s, music genres included, ROCK, Jazz, country and western, RnB and folk. All these new terms like "death metal", "Yacht rock', Rap, hip hop,........none of those terms existed. It was just music. You would listen to either and Rnb station, a country station, or a rock station on the radio. Rock and Roll is a large and varied amalgam of styles.

So many bands were influenced by the Beatles, and all (except ACDC) would purposefully try to NOT have 2 songs sound the same. At least until the 80s came along with MTV and more "contrived" bands created by record companies followed the formulas put out for them.
