I always imagine the story, when George presented "Handle with Care" to the executives in George's record company, with him being such a humble man maybe with a story like that: "You know, I've got this little song here, had some friends help me with it. What do you think, is it any good?" and then the faces of the people around, listening to it.🤭
@genegarrett33723 ай бұрын
George had this song he was obligated to record for a b-side and went to Petty's house to retrieve his guitar Tom had stored for him. Jeff Lynne had produced Petty, and Petty and George were big pals of Dylan and of course George knew Roy Orbison from early Beatle touring days (Roy was an act on one of their shows). Funny how all these connections come together. Kinda cosmically intended to be. After this Wilbury release, titled Vol 1. they did a second album titled Vol 3 (for a joke). George always had a wry sense of humor.

Producer Jeff Lynne had a hot streak starting with Harrison's "Cloud Nine" in 87, then Orbison's "Mystery Girl" that same year, then the Wilbury's record in 1988, then Tom's "Full Moon Fever" in 1989, then Jeff's own solo record "Armchair Theater" in 1990, then the Tom Petty / Heartbreakers "Into The Great Wide Open" in 1991, and the Wilbury's Vol 3 record in 1992, Jeff's sound was all over the radio during that period.

“Handle With Care” was written by George Harrison and originally intended as the B-side for his 1988 “This Is Love” single (yes, with four featured artists). But when the record label deemed it “too good”, the Wilburys formed to record more songs for an album. The song’s title was decided after initially coming up with a few lines, when Dylan asked “What’s the song called and what is about?” and Harrison saw a box with a “Handle With Care” sticker. “Handle With Care” was the supergroup’s debut single, reaching the top 40 in seven countries including a #2 peak in Canada. In the US, it peaked at #45 in December 1988.
