The original is usually the best and that's no different here. They are like a mix of the early Beatles (like the album behind me) and early Doors at the same time. Such a great mix. Thank you Joel!

"We Gotta Get Out Of This Place" has one of the best bass intros in the entire 60's catalog. Another song of theirs with a distinctive hook is "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood".

This is a traditional song. The bassist, Chas Chandler, left the band and in 1966 used his earnings to bring to the UK and manage a unknown US guitarist named Jimi Hendrix.

"The Animals" were inspired to do "House of the Rising Sun" after hearing the 1960 cover version by Bob Dylan from his 1st album. Dylan's version is very intense, and not very well known, with Dylan singing from the traditional perspective of a woman fallen into prostitution. The Animals changed the lyrics to portray a young man, fallen into gambling and drinking. Eric Burdon is deep into the blues, and his explosive vocal power and soul were unique. Animals also had great keyboard and drums. For a different Burdon experience, check out his early-70's band "War", like amazing trippy soul/funk song "Spill The Wine".

By the way - War was not just Eric Burdon’s band. They went on to have a very successful career with many hit records on their own after he split with them. Songs like “Low Rider”, “Slippin’ Into Darkness”, “The Cisco Kid”, “Me And Baby Brother”, “The World Is A Ghetto”, and “Why Can’t We Be Friends” among others.

They're mimicking a New Orleans funeral march by walking single file while playing the music. The origin of the song is in dispute. Some even saying it came from France back in the 1700s or something.

House of the Rising Son is a traditional folk song and the Animals took about 30 minutes studio time to record it. The band later became Eric Burdon and the New Animals and played amazing psychedelic style songs

Chas Chandler 'discovered' Hendrix whilst on The Animals final US tour, and he convinced him to come to the UK. He found Jimi accommodation, a drummer and a bassist, and funded the band's first single 'Hey, Joe'. It was also Chandler's gimmick idea for Jimi to set fire to his guitar on stage.

Seen this clip many times and only just realised the same thing today. I wondered initially if there was an edit to get the next shot set up, but I think you're right Alan got wheeled across the studio. They all keep the poker face so well throughout, but Hilton just cracked at the last hurdle. It's even funnier because Eric is oblivious to it and he's putting on his best moody face.

"House of the Rising Sun" is actually a traditional American folk song & it's usually done in a major key. Alan Price, The Animals' keyboardist, wrote just the music for this version, which is in a minor key. So, this isn't the *original* version of the song; it's a reimagining of the song with darker music than the original, though the lyrics are pretty much the same as the original. The Doors first formed in 1965 & released their first album in 1967. There was definitely an influence of The Animals on The Doors. The Animals formed in Newcastle, England, around the same time as the Rolling Stones in London. They didn't last long, though; the original line-up broke up in 1966, & a new line-up reformed in 1967 as Eric Burdon & The Animals.

This song is from the early 1930's. The Animal's version was a cover. Very, very old song. The oldest known recording of the song is by Appalachian artists Clarence "Tom" Ashley and Gwen Foster, who recorded it on September 6, 1933.

This is a more modern take " modern at the time" on an old folk tune sung in rhe bayous of South Louisiana. The story goes that the House of the Rising Sun was a brothel in the red light district of NO , now the French Quarter. There is a house down in the Quarter still that is said to be the actual House of the Rising Sun

The song is a very old folk song that is in common domain. It was first recorded by music historian Alan Lomax, who did extensive field research on folk music during the Great Depression.

@@susanmallet766 That sounds right. Lomax had a recorder that recorded onto aluminum disks, and went up into the hills and hollers and recorded any folk music that anyone was willing to sing into the machine. So much old music would have been lost if he hadn't done that.

Doors are '67-'70. Animals came in '64 but months after Beatlemania exploded in January of that year. Eric Burdon had hits with and then without the Animals, including Spill the Wine with the multi hit group War. He also had an interesting anti-war song, Sky Pilot, during the time of the Vietnam War protests.

Linda Keith, British model saw Jimi Hendrix in the village. She saw his talent. She brought America producers to see Hendrix perform. They didn't get it. She finally took Chas Chandler down to one of the clubs where he was playing. He immediately saw his talent. He took Hendrix to England, formed the Experience and Jimi was on his way.

Eric Burdon has a terrific voice! And The Animals were quite popular back in the 60's. I was only like 7 years old when this song came out, but I have a sister who is older than me and she blared all this 60's music - all the time! I consider the disco/jazz fusion music of the 70's more my style, but I know all of these songs and artists from a decade earlier. Kind of neat to be as old as a lot of us are now, and have been around to witness the progression of music from Elvis to today. Things have definitely changed!

Just finished House of the Rising Sun and yeah man, it was slightly before my time or technically I was alive but slightly before my memories. But I go to love this song from many quarters but I've always loved this animals version the most. Years later in high school I got to see Eric Burdon and most of the animals at a small venue in Wichita kansas. And I have to tell you man it's hilarious man he was kind of short and he had this like burgundy leather jacket on but even then he was probably in his 40s I guess, but he had this intensity about him and he could fucking belt. It was a real treat.

The 1st video was from a movie released here as "Go Go Big Beat" that featured many of the top bands in the UK at the time. The bassist, Chas Chandler discovered Jimi Hendrix. I knew Hilton. He was an absolute sweetheart. I've seen Eric many times. Still has those pipes. Check out "Spill The Wins" by Eric Burdon and War. The Animals morphed into Eric Burdon & The Animals who had many hits including "San Francisco Nights", "Sky Pilot" & "Monterrey"

Both the Doors and Grand Funk Railroad among others were influenced by these tough Newcastle boys. Alan Price came up with the serpentine organ lick of House of ...he left early on. Bassist Chas Chandler was the guy who helped find musicians get exposure and a record deal for Jimi Hendrix, bringing him from NYC to London.
