First geard this album 59 years ago. Still love it. All Blues, one of the best grooves of all time.

The first sax on All Blues was Cannonball, followed by the deeper toned sax of Trane.

The brush work at the beginning is sublime, just before Jimmy masterfully switches over to sticks.. that style of brush playing is called “stirring the soup”, and it’s difficult to master. After 40+ years of playing, I would say I have a decent grasp, but I still have not mastered this technique. Edit: Good call, patreon guy

The key thing to understand is that most of this is pure improvisation. Miles would come into the studio with a theme or a riff and then the band would just jam. Miles and in particular this album pretty much are the blueprint for modern improvisational music.

I think Flamenco Sketches has to be one of the most gorgeous songs ever created... It breathes. Speaking of the magnificent playing of Bill Evans, with his subtle voicings and movement within the voicings, I'd recommend checking out some of his solo work. "Here's That Rainy Day" is a great introduction to Bill Evans solo...

No rules 🙂 Easy and relaxed. After 64 years and still so fresh. Each in turn…Very neat… Very nice, Lee. I enjoyed your Afternoon Special. Thank you, Lee and Jonathan, for sharing this wonderful jam session.

They saved the best for last. Flamenco Sketches is just beautiful. My CD copy comes with notes that explain that this album was Duane Allmans bible. The Allmans may have been a southern rock band, but their influences were deep. Every note on Kind Of Blue is in exactly the right place. All improvised too. Incredible.

Sketches is a masterpiece. Bill Evans solos in a beautifully restrained style. Just beautiful. The sax solo at 16:20. He holds that note. It's perfection. Thanks for this. JT

Weird statements from Evans: “I had to work harder at music than most cats, because you see, I don't have much talent." And “Everybody talks about my harmonic conception. I worked very hard at that because I don't have very good ears." Just about everyone who has ever listened to the man’s work would disagree. Perhaps though this humble approach is what made him so good.

Saw Miles in club around 1977. The room was transported to another dimension it seemed. I think he said “thanks” once. Barely looked up entirely performance, but he was all about the music.

Some of the chord changes are similar to some of the chord changes Steve Howe are using in Yes ""Roundabout", there's little doubt Progressive Rock players were listening to this.

A wonderful thing to do when listening to this album (the next time you do it) is to play it at night when you can sit or lay back when the room is pitch black and there are no visual distractions..... and just let the music wash over and through you! I've done that countless times......

One great decision i made in my life was to hitchhike to Cleveland with a friend to see Miles in 1972. I was 16 yrs old. I’ll admit i quite understand what he was doing but i knew i was witnessing something extraordinary. It was his electric material. After Bitches Brew.

Yeah the harmonies created with transitions are fucking sublime .....by the by the last song off only money by Frank ....a little explanation for that one ...see he was inspired by Edgar Varese who did a composition called Deserts and Ionizations it was a game changer for Zappa who was hearing doo wop and rythym and blues ...and nothing wrong with that but Edgar took Frank to another place Zappa put a quote on a few of his albums from Edgar Varese ...quote "The Present Day Composer Refuses to Die
