Even now, the on-point drumming of Stephen Morris is rarely talked about in terms of how important it was to Joy Division’s and then New Order’s sound.

Makes me feel very old as I saw them in London before they had a single out as a support band. Was standing about 10 foot from the low stage as Ian Curtis started his mad dancing. 46 years later it’s still a fresh memory

You should totally listen to transmission and disorder! The drummer, Stephen morris, said in his book that these songs are so demanding that when he played them back to back he felt he was about to have a heart attack. Stephen is an awesome drummer and regarded by many as “the human drum machine”

The vocals, on both of these videos are muted -clearer on the records. The photo behind the guitarist, Bernard is another great British band of that time, The Jam, who performed on the same show that night. The graphic, looking like mountains, behind drummer Stephen, and Bassist Peter is the album cover which is a graph of radio waves. After Ian's suicide, Joy Division switched name into New Order, joined by Keyboardist Gillian, who married the drummer. They had a split with Peter a number of years ago - he now fronts a band that plays a lot of Joy Division, and new songs. Both Joy Division & New Order have been nominated once for the Rock Hall -both should be included (and they've waited for years beyond eligible vote)
@mattleppard19703 ай бұрын
Just watching now… Bass player Peter Hook is quite a legend over here. Not overly ornate but insistent, pounding, grumbling - later in the New Order songs too, often over an electronic beat. Try “Blue Monday” ❤

Ian's guitar in LWKUA looked kinda like a pentagonal Vox I once had my eye on, but not quite the same, idt. Helluva dancer, huh? RIP, Ian. Joy Division was named for prostitution wings of concentration camps in and around Nazi Germany during WWII. After Ian's self-annihilation, they changed their name to New Order and continued to put out music with much of their aesthetic intact.
