Thank you to our patron laura for another moving selection... the first track "Love" has a commentary...text at the bottom of the video? i tried to blow it up as big as I could so hopefully y'all can actually see it. It is a mix of mixes of that song as well. "Woman" from Double Fantasy is just the normal track. This will fit the theme of the day (8/4/24) our moody monday has become a... Lovey Monday this week. Yeah. There we go. Lol

At her installation there was one piece that had a step ladder with a tiny painting on the ceiling and a magnifying glass on a string hanging so the viewer could climb the ladder, hold the magnifying glass and look at the painting, which had one word on it "YES" in small letters. Her said "OK this is the first thing I've seen that said something positive. If it had said NO or ripoff, I would have left, but instead I stayed to see the whole show". We got together afterwards and fell in love.

Yoko first went to Pauls house (he lived in London) to ask for some sheet music for an art project, He recommended a London music shop as he didn't use sheet music. Yoko had an installation of her conceptual art at Indica Gallery (also indirectly connected to Paul and his art friends.) Anyway, John heard her show was going to be a "happening" and he went a day early to look (A privilege of Beatles was ability to get in anywhere). That's where john and Yoka met. More in following post.

What a wonderful, bittersweet pick, Laura, thank you. The message of "Love" reminds me of a Clint Black song saying that love isn't something that we feel, it's "Something That We Do". I was blessed with nearly 46 years of that kind of love, and cherish each memory. Blessings all.

The very beginning of Woman John said: For the other half of the sky. Woman was for Yoko, sure, but also for all women. BIG change from who he had been for most of his life. He had become a feminist. You missed it, and it's good, so thought you should know :) Glad that you liked them, Lee. Next up has to be Starting Over (still in the queue from June!). When I got married (second time) it was in a Register Office (as was my first!) but we had music on a tape played during the second wedding. It was "Love" by John Lennon. I thought it highly appropriate to the occasion, and would see me through... However, my second husband left me for my "best friend" two and a half years later ...and so he became my second ex-husband, and I've been single ever since (Sept 4th 2001).😢😢😢😢😢

Hi Lee, just subscribed after watching for a long time! Old guy = me, just turned 70. Sing and play guitar a bit, but horribly. I’m in Canada, born in the Yukon (next door to Alaska) but mostly have lived in the prairie provinces. I’m about 2 hrs from where Joni Mitchell (little Joni Anderson) was born. About 5 hours from where she grew up. It boggles the mind that such a sophisticate hailed from Fort McLeod and Saskatoon. I spent my formative years in Winnipeg, Manitoba. That’s where Neil Young, the Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive and the Crash Test Dummies are from. I might be bugging for select Guess Who tunes in coming days. I really enjoy your efforts buddy… I’m retired now and drive a school bus to keep busy, but spent a large chunk of my life working on-air, radio and tv. Some folks come across as believable and sincere on camera, and some don’t. You do!

there is one Beatles song that had a very funny beginning, it started with john making a comment regarding Paul's song writting, John was asked about Paul's last release and his comment was"Paul writes too many silly loves songs" so Paul wrote that Silly Love Songs and had another No1 hit.
@lauraallen55
@lauraallen55 3 ай бұрын
I don't believe that John ever said that - do you have a source for the quote? Here's what Paul had to say about the song, and it doesn't mention John. (source: Billboard): "But over the years people have said, "Aw, he sings love songs, he writes love songs, he's so soppy at times." I thought, Well, I know what they mean, but, people have been doing love songs forever. I like 'em, other people like 'em, and there's a lot of people I love -- I'm lucky enough to have that in my life. So the idea was that "you" may call them silly, but what's wrong with that? "The song was, in a way, to answer people who just accuse me of being soppy. The nice payoff now is that a lot of the people I meet who are at the age where they've just got a couple of kids and have grown up a bit, settling down, they'll say to me, "I thought you were really soppy for years, but I get it now! I see what you were doing!" Anything to say about the two songs here of John's?

If you want to react to Yoko Ono some good pop songs are Walking On Thin Ice, Hell in Paradise, Kiss Kiss Kiss, Give Me Something That's Not Cold. She has had a lot of dance hits and New Wave bands loved her. P.S. Every member of The Beatles left the band because of Paul. Only Paul announced that he left and would not reform the band to promote his 1st solo album. Paul also said the Beatles broke up because of Yolo Ono sitting in the studio. fake news & racist Beatles fans ran with that. John asked to desolve the band but they wanted to wait until the breakup would not hurt LP sales. The experimental songs annoyed hippies but influenced punk rock, new wave and avant-garde music of the 70s 80s & riot grrrls in the 90s.

Love to Yoko! When the Beatles broke up disgruntled fans looked for someone to blame and, due to her presence, she was an easy and misguided target. The band had outgrown each other. Yoko was not the cause. She was good for John.
@lauraallen55
@lauraallen55 3 ай бұрын
You're so right that she was not the cause. The 'cause' was complicated. John, George, and maybe even Ringo to some extent were over it after Brian died. Paul wanted to be cheerleader and manager and keep the band together. Yes, Yoko was perfect for John, in every way.

The actual original album mix of "Love" (Not this mix you're listening to) was featured in the 1980 movie, "Little Darlings" starring Kristy McNichol which was released in theaters just a little over 8 months before his death. (I went and saw that when it came out.) Also, I remember listening to John's last interview in 1980 and he said "Woman" is my Beatles song" for the Double Fantasy album. Meaning it was written and produced to sound like something he would have done with the Beatles if they were still together.

John met Yoko at an art exhibition. Her art piece of just a hammer, nail, and ladder (where the viewer is supposed to climb the ladder and put a nail in the wall) amused John in 1966. In 1967, at a party in London, Yoko was trying to chat up Paul McCartney. He brushed it off but told John about it, and he remembered her. So Paul really got them together. Then again in 1974, when John left Yoko with their friend Mai Pang, to Los Angeles. It was at one of those parties he was known for (Harry Nilson had become a big drinking partner) Paul showed up one day and saw how miserable John was, drinking himself to sleep each night, and he again, goaded him to swallow his pride, go back to NYC and make up with Yoko. Sean Lennon-Ono came along not long after that.
@lauraallen55
@lauraallen55 3 ай бұрын
Yoko invited John to her art exhibit. He went, and climbed a ladder to a card on the ceiling that said 'yes'. He said if it had said anything negative, he would have left. Paul has said in interviews that she never went after him, and was always infatuated with John. She approached Paul for a manuscript donation to a charity, and he declined, and sent her to John to see if he would. He has said she never made a move on him. May Pang has said that she could tell that it wasn't working with John, and that John was starting to ask Yoko to take him back. Do you have a source that it was all Paul's convincing him?

This video changed my thought on Yoko a little bit. I like your videos lee, you react to older musicians, most of them I'm not familiar with(only familiar with the beatles and talking heads and the clash, I like talking heads very much, I first listened to them because they say one of their songs is where the name of radiohead come from, so I listened to them because I like radiohead, and then I found myself even prefer talking heads than radiohead...), listening to new music with you is very joyful, your comments are always by heart, I can feel it. I remember that photo actually being on the front page of one of the NY tabloids -- either the Daily News or the Post. And I'm pretty sure Yoko was responsible for choosing the images in the video.

Lee, you're right: Yoko had *absolutely nothing* to do with the Beatles ending. They truly ended as a cohesive and supportive whole when their manager Brian died. They weren't allowed to die a natural death mainly because of Paul. That is a double-edged sword. Many point out that we wouldn't have had some great music (their last) if Paul had not done that. However, they weren't happy as the sort of nuclear family they'd always been either. George wanted to do his own stuff, John had completely lost interest in 'The Beatles' as a thing he was a part of. Paul had Linda (who was also in the studio A LOT), and it hurt them in a ton of ways as individuals who loved one another to stay together after Brian died.

You're right of course Laura. A lot of people have this stupid idea that John was stolen from the Beatles (and from the fans) by Yoko. I've even seen it said that she had him hypnotised so she could take him away. Fact is, John and George had had enough and both had different paths they wanted to explore musically. Even Paul, who didn't want to split, had his own visions if how he wanted to do things which were at odds with the other guys. It had to end. Nothing lasts for ever and look at what we would have missed out on if they hadn't split. All the solo stuff and the Wilberys! Like everything else, it was good while it lasted but I mean, could they have gone on another 10 years? Part of the lore of the Beatles comes from the fact that they were only here for a short length of time. And all the complaints about Yoko being in the studio make no sense. These studio sessions were full of people. We've all seen Linda there countless times. Patti Boyd talks in her book about sitting in on the Beatles and outer, Eric's studio sessions. Chris Odell was always there too. John loved Yoko. Simple as that.

@@Moz1011I think the difference is, Yoko considered herself to be the other half of John, artistically speaking, and in that frame of mind, she made herself a distraction during the Beatles' sessions, whereas Linda did not bring that mindset into the studio, nor did anyone else, except Yoko.

@@Moz1011 It really sucks how people love to hate on her. I'm not fond of some things I've heard about her, but like you pointed out, John *loved* her, truly so, and that's what matters! He was always troubled, and insecure, and essentially, lonely. Then, he was lucky enough to have someone come into his life who made him feel less lonely, less troubled and sad, in fact the opposite of that. I honestly don't see how anyone can claim to be a true fan of his and hold such negative feelings towards her. I appreciate the hell out of the fact she made him so happy and at peace with himself. He had so little of it in his 40 years. I don't hold ill will towards Paul for try ing to keep them together. I mean he loved them and loved the life. But he didn't want to let go, and it was time. George and John *never* actually loved that life - they truly disliked it honestly. I think they were even traumatized by it to some degree. Excellent point about all the great solo music we got because they did split! If they'd continued making music together after they did, they may not have gone out on top as they still managed to do even with all the bad feelings at the end.

@stevejoshua9536 i think John considered her to be the other half of him. He wasn't shy or afraid to speak his mind. If he didn't want Yoko beside him he would have said. Anyhow, he wanted to be with her and he loved her and they didn't care what anybody thought.

@@stevejoshua9536 I don't believe they are 'outtakes' at all. They sound like the original songs to me, and both came from his official channel. The only difference is the short bit of talking from John on LOVE in the beginning, and the absence of the fade-in and fade-out of the piano. I wanted Lee to have the story from them with it. By all means, you should request the other version with the fade-in and out, though as it's so much better for you!

Yoko claimed to have not known anything about "The Beatles". But she first went after Paul. He rejected her so she went after John. It's only coincidence, apparently, that she serially approached two members of a band she'd never heard of.

@@annakermode6646 Let's be real: Yoko herself said that she'd never heard of "The Beatles". But she approached, of all people, Paul, then after he said "No" she went after John. Such a coincidence -- serially stalking two members of the same band that she afterward claimed she had never heard of and of which knew nothing. Anyone who believes Yoko's word on anything is ignoring the history even she claimed.

I hated Yoko for years but as Paul said, "he was madly in love with her." When Paul personally inducted John as a solo artist into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame he made a truly wonderful little speech and Yoko threw her arms around him, crying and thanking him. I can't hate her anymore. And this song is just amazing. Thanks, my friend.
