Thank you as always to our resident Zappa-ite Peter K for another winner, winner chicken dinner on my birthday (day of recording). This is easily one of Frank's best solos/songs in general. This whole album is just full of some of his best work (that i've heard at least) and my favorite song of his is the first damn track! This was such a great track. Chester and Tom were KILLING it too. What a song.

Sorry, i´m too lazy to check your playlists now, did you hear ever "The Illinois Enema Bandit"? Or "Titties ´n Beer"? His guitar playng is uncredible, his phrasing second to none, also as componist, arrangeur, producer, Perrformer and on and on . . . . . not to forget the motivation and "evolving" his carefully hand-picked band members.. Thank you for your Zappa uploads, the reason I subscribed.

This song is about his '73 band who were more into reading and playing chess instead of getting laid while on the road. Originally, he just had the lyrics and he'd recite them onstage with that bwnd behind him, pretty cold. Road Tapes #2 has a performance of that.

@Royale_with_Cheeze Frank did not tolerate anything that might jeopardize his band or business, hence there was never partying and drug use. They didn't 'hang out' with each other. Their time was spent on endless rehearsals and touring. Partiers weren't hired.
@Royale_with_Cheeze
@Royale_with_Cheeze Ай бұрын
@@erolbulut2584 Drug use isn't the same as having adventures after the gigs. Frank regularly asked the bandmates what kinds of "extraterrestrial activities" they may have had with groupies, etc. How do you think he wrote such things as Stevie's Spanking and others? He relished their stories, boiled them in ammonia, got them all perverted and made a song out of it, as described in 200 Motels. Apparently the '73 touring band just did their gigs and retired to their motel rooms where they may have played chess or read books to unwind after the gigs. They were the boring Po-Jama People he wrote about. *"I have had bands where everyone has been a reader. The most boring band I had was like that and ultimately led to the song "Po-Jama People" which is written about that particular band which had people like Ruth (Underwood), George (Duke) and Ponty. You go on the road and you have these people living their life to play [Yahtzee] on the bus, and chess and engaging in intellectual juiceless pursuits. I like to have guys in the band who want to go out there and want to get laid."* -FZ

There is no "actual studio version" of "Inca Roads" (unless you count a 1973 studio recording of an earlier, instrumental arrangement (featuring Jean-Luc Ponty on violin), which wasn't officially released until 1996 on The Lost Episodes). The version on One Size Fits All is as close to a studio version as it gets. It's a combination of two live versions, with studio over-dubs. The bulk of the song is from the August '74 KCET-TV special, A Token Of His Extreme, while the guitar solo section is an edited version of the guitar solo section from the September '74 Helsinki concert; both sections have studio over-dubs.

You’ve been Zapped for sure! Listen to these tracks on the double album, The Best Band You Never Heard in Your Life, 3 live tracks of Inca Roads, Florentine Pogen and Andy. It’s killer!! imho better than these original versions (and that’s unusual for me). You’re right about the political times. It’s 1938 all over again (history repeats or at least rhymes). Back then, we could have stopped you-know-who, but we waffled and millions died. We need to protect our democracy and those allies around the world, from the designs of autocrats. Frank Zappa stood courageously for freedom - true freedom of thought and of speech. Joe’s Garage is all about gov’t stopping rock n’ roll because it’s so subersive. Thanks for keeping these songs in front of young people like you who are getting a real education!!

As with the last part of the "Inca Roads" solo, it sounds like those fast parts are Frank using the edge of his pick to tap notes. As with "Cosmic Debris", I think Frank was being sarcastic about the appearance around that time of Hindu monks in their robes - Think of the opening of the movie Airplane with the Hare Krishna members asking for donations at the airport. The "cosy little footies" line probably refers to the concept of the "lotus feet of the guru" as being a symbol of divinity.
