Just to be clear, the personnel aren't exactly the same in that doc, but it is the expanded version of the band like in Rome, as opposed to the quartet they were initially on record. Think you'll really enjoy the staging of the concert in that film as well.

They had more energy than a power station on stage. Check out ‘Life During Wartime’ from the film Stop making sense. Saw them in 1981 and have never been so knackered after a concert. There was barely a person in the theatre sitting in their seat.

Phish did an awesome cover of this one. They played all of the Remain in Light album as their “musical costume” Halloween tradition, back in 1996. Don’t think they ever played The Great Curve again after that night, but Crosseyed and Painless stayed in rotation for years.

Nice reaction. I saw Adrian Belew touring with the Bears in a small club in the late 80s and what a performer. This song is my favorite Talking Heads song. When you review "Life During Wartime" from Stop Making Sense you will see energy. I got to see Talking Heads at the 1982 US Festival (sandwiched between B-52s and The Police!)

Talking Heads, Peter Gabriel, and Adam & the Ants used several drummers live. African rhythms were huge in post punk music. 1980 was a drum heavy year. Try out Once in a Lifetime , Sho do the Monkey, & Antmusic by these 3 new wave bands.

Talking Heads is one of the greatest groups. Adrian Belew is my favorite guitarist. You must watch some of his solo shows and his with with the band Bears. He has played with Zappa (City of Tiny Lights) and Bowie (Loger album and tour and the Sound and Vision tour and Pretty Pink Rose duet) and tons of other other artists. He's been doing shows with Jerry Harrison (keyboardist) lately for the Talking Heads Remain in Light album. When you watch Stop Making Sense, the Talking Heads offshoot band Tom Tom Club (husband and wife Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth) makes an appearance for Genius of Love (You should recognize that song. One of the most sampled tracks ever).

Talking Heads at one of their many peeks. Often people want songs they understand at once but this one has so many layers that it's still growing after 44 years. We also have to mention the solo guitar player, Adrian Belew. One of the most interesting player searching for new ways to get sounds out of the guitar. He also been playing whit the three greatest, Frank Zappa, Robert Fripp (King Crimson) and Talking Heads. Too bad the cameramen was so bad at this time, didn't had a decent shoot on Adrian last solo.

This is a wonderful song; and just think, it's one of the band's lesser known tracks. Talking Heads is an incredible band with a bunch of great songs that go beyond even the radio hits. You're in for a treat, L33. I consider Tina Weymouth to be one of the best, most funky, bass players ever, and David Byrne is such a quirky singer and great entertainer. The rabbit hole awaits. ❤✌

@@who7092 Speaking in Tongue is a great LP, it's really difficult to choose, certainly Remain in Light is the most original and innovative, but I love the simplicity of Fear of Music, in fact one of my favorite albums by David Byrne is his black album, the self-titled album, with only his name: this album reminds me of the style of Fear of Music

When prog slowly started dying around 1979-1980 the Talking Heads were one of the shining lights that kept me going. Their earlier stuff was a bit more eclectic, but they really started taking off when Brian Eno joined the scene - Fear of Music, Remain in Light, Speaking in Tongues, all amazing albums, followed by the pinnacle of rock concert movies Stop Making Sense, directed by Jonathan Demme (who later directed Silence of the Lambs). Similar intense energy all the way through, but much higher quality audio and video (no Adrian Belew though). Made to be watched in its entirety. You have definitely entered another rabbit hole, my friend. Happy 2024!

This ferocious tour celebrated their ground-breaking Remain In Light album. Although I knew the album and was 'ready', it still re-arranged my dna to see it unfold in a club in Atlanta. Cheers for watching this, highly recommend the other (lo-fi) stuff from this tour, and then the album itself. The hit single is, to me, the fourth most interesting song on it, so original order if (in doubt). Then Stop Making Sense, and it will make sense. :)

I'm not sure of the timeline but I heard that back in the late 80s, when David Byrne left Talking Heads, the rest of the band asked Adrian if he would join permanently to take David's place. Not sure if Adrian joining King Crimson in '81 had anything to do with Fripp working with Talking Heads on the Fear of Music album in '79, and then Adrian's work with them the year after that. I've heard some people say that King Crimson with Adrian has influences from Talking Heads, but personally I think it's the other way around; Fripp and Belew's collaborations influenced and changed Talking Heads.

Lee, What is the best way for you to approach The Talking Heads? Maybe you want to hit studio versions of the songs first, because the live versions may ruin it for you on the studio versions. The first two albums are more New Wave albums. Maybe check out the singles songs first. If you do not like the vibes, move onto the third album. The album, “Fear Of Music” begins incorporating more funk and late 1970s dance rhythms. In 1980, the Talking Heads begin introducing World Music rhythms into their music. I could be wrong, but I believe that the Talking Heads influenced the 1980s King Crimson sound more than the other way around. I saw the remastered movie, “Stop Making Sense” a few months ago in a theater. To me, it is worth it to see in a theater. I missed its original run in 1984, because of marriage. Anyway enjoy!
