The Way We Were was beautiful and poignant movie starring Barbara Streisand and Robert Redford, released in 1973. The title song became a hit on the radio. I highly recommend you check out the movie. Two excellent actors in their prime. An intelligent, romantic drama. Not sappy at all. I had not seen that performance before. But Barbara Streisand is the epitome of elegance. If you want to see more of her stage presence, I recommend the movie Funny Girl. Thank you. That was a great reaction and a great performance by Barbara that I had not seen before.

She's from Brooklyn (Flatbush). As was Neil. They were in the same school, but didn't know each other then. Barbra had such a great stage persona, but always suffered from stage fright. She didn't perform for years.

Billboard and Billboard 200 named her the greatest solo artist OF ALL TIME. She’s insanely gifted.
@richardherdman2121
@richardherdman2121 19 күн бұрын
Indeed. And that's primarily based on Barbra having the most top 10 albums of any solo artist in the history of the Billboard 200 - 34 over the last 6 decades. Which is also 2nd among all recording artists (solo, duo or group), behind only the Rolling Stones, who have 38. Longevity in the music biz is rare enough to begin with, but to maintain success at such a high level by consistently charting in the top 10 on the music industry's premier album chart decade after decade...that's just crazy good. But as you say, Barbra is insanely gifted, so her fan-base is one of the most loyal in the history of the industry.

The song "The way we were" is from the movie of the same name. She plays a Jewish young women, very liberal and involved in politics. Then she meets Robert Redford who is a wasp, she falls in love with him, and eventually he falls in love with her and they marry. He becomes a very successful Hollywood playwriter, and eventually their differences are too much, she is too intense for him and the divorce. It is a good movie I highly recommond it.

The live performance of Barbra and Neil performing this at the Grammys, to an unsuspecting crowd at the close of the awards program, is one of the most memorable highlights in Grammy history...a must watch if you get a chance. Actually, Barbra and Neil attended the same high school Erasmus, in Brooklyn, NY. They were a year apart but sang in the school choir together. Enjoyed your reaction and am subscribing... you seem to have a good head on your shoulders. I look forward to more reactions, especially of Barbra.. you will fall in love with her. Check out her duet with Donna Summer on "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)... the longer version rather than the shorter radio version. I think you'll love it, and I dare you not to move.

Fun Fact - Barbra & Neil were in the same HS choir, at the same time at Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, NY. Barbra's entire catalogue will impress you more than you can imagine. So many truly GREAT ones!! Her version of Somewhere (a song from West Side Story) shouldn't be missed. What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life is another one of my favorites, & it's on my most favorite Streisand album, The Way We Were (which is the song I like the least on the LP).

I can listen to her forever dude. A lot of people think she's just an actress but that's so far from the truth. You're right her eyes are beautiful, she is truly a really pretty woman. And her voice is just impeccable. I know it sounds weird that I listen to led zeppelin, Frank zappa, foghat, Rory Gallagher, Yes, etc. but back in the seventies I took a music appreciation course in high school, and along with having older brothers and sisters it helped me really really dig a lot of different music. So trust me you're not being made fun of because you listen to Barbra streisand, she's amazing! Take care brother.

This concert was in her backyard and every famous person in the world was there “her friends” they paid the equivalent of 15k a couple to attend. It was the most money raised by a woman ever at the time. They said it was like getting an invitation from the Queen to attend the most exclusive concert in history. It broke every viewing record HBO had at the time. Neil went to high school with Barbra. She’s the goat. “Woman in Love”, “Guilty”, “Enough is Enough” 8 min version, “Since I Fell for You”, “I’m Like a Prisoner”, “Crying Time”, “Woman in the Moon” the list can go on and on.

Barbra, in a world of magnificent singers, stands alone. Her acting ability enhances her performances. Listen to music from Funny Girl, including Don't Rain on my Parade, Second Hand Rose. But the song, He Touched Me, both live in Central Park and in studio, show the power of her voice and depth of emotion fills me like no one else can. I am a huge Linda Ronstadt fan. A huge Whitney Houston Fan. A great Judy Garland fan. A major ABBA fan. and all those females sing magnificently, but Barbra is something that has to be experienced. You do not have a clue about her range yet. You need to go deep down the rabbit hole. You will never regret it. And if you have any desire to have your mind blown, listen to duet with herself singing A Piece of the Sky (Papa can you hear me) from Yental, live. The audience is reduced to mush and the listener is moved to tears.

Looking forward to your reaction. I thought you did another Streisand song already. This one is I think my fav of favs. Probably cuz its tied to the movie, the Way We Were with Robert Redford. You should see it. It is awesome. It takes place in the 1950s - tells the story of the "communist scare" in Hollywood thanks to a psycho alcoholic congressman named Joe McCarthy who made the lives of so many miserable cuz he charge them w/being a communist. But its mostly about the love story between her and Redford - they are so opposite! Great movie. Hope you can catch it.

"She owns that stage!" That is literally true, since this concert was in the back yard of her ranch in Malibu Canyon. My favorite performance from this concert was her rendition of "Send in the Clowns." Her subtle facial expressions give the song a meaning which I never appreciated until hearing her version, which included an extra verse written expressly for her by its composer Stephen Sondheim. You might also appreciate her amazing performance of "He Touched Me" from her 1967 live concert/tv special "A Happening in Central Park."

A little Tour Note on Neil Diamond... After a performance in Milwaukee, the Tour had a day off, so right after the performance Neil told everyone that he was going to check out the Harley-Davidson Factory the next morning and if anyone would like to go, to meet him in the Hotel Lobby at 7am. Most of the cast and crew decided to sleep in on their day off but a handful showed up the next morning. Little did they know , that Neil had arranged to have the HD factory build custom motorcycles to order for anyone who showed up! Neil added another tractor trailer to the Tour to transport the bikes around the Country so they could all ride together when they had the time! The Moral? When the Boss invited you along on your Day Off..get your ass out of bed and take him up on his offer! I know this is a true story, because I got it from my buddy from Giant Stadium who was rigging the Tour when I worked the show in Albany NY...and he Didn't get up and go to the Lobby in Milwaukee!
