In the 20th century, there was Judy Garland, then Barbra Streisand shot to prominence, and finally Celine Dion. They were the Big 3 voices. Btw, there's some continuity there. A very young Streisand looked up to Garland. It was a huge thrill for her when they did a duet together. Decades later, it was Dion who looked up to Streisand and a huge thrill for her when they paired up for this duet.

Barbara Streisand at her most beautiful - I was raised with her singing from the early 70's. I lost my dad when I was 21, he was murdered by a drunk driver, and Barbara always brings my Dad alive again for me, and so often reduces me to tears too - especially the soundtrack from A Star Is Born with Chris Kristopherson ( With One More Look At you ). I always say this, but one of the most remarkable things about this song is that Ms Streisand is in her mid-50s here and she still has THAT VOICE! Singers in their 20s would kill to have a voice that pristine.

They each recorded their parts separately then came together to do this video. Celine told the story on Oprah of how she confessed to Barbra that she was overwhelmed to sing with her because she had admired her as a young singer coming up. Barbra replied that she understood because that’s the way she felt when as a very young woman she got to sing with Judy Garland.

Great reaction... and I don't know how I'm 3 days late to this. Agree, both ladies have incredible voices, but I too prefer 'overall' the effortless silkiness, both in her highs and lows, of Barbra's voice... and I never tire of it. Celine's idol growing up was Barbra, so when David Foster made this collab happen, it was thrilling for her. The song was actually written to be a conversation between a mother and her daughter, so the 26-year difference between them made it a natural. Barbra has three albums of nothing but duets with some of the greatest singers ever...(and she currently may be working on her 4th at the age of 82; we do know of at least one duet on it, with James Taylor)... from Sinatra to Johns Legend and Mayer, and from Judy Garland to Kim Carnes and Celine, and so many others. But I too suggest for your next, as several others here have already, the one with the Queen of Disco, Donna Summer, "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)," and yes, choose the longer version which was played in Discos here and abroad, instead of the shorter radio one. Just subscribed and looking forward to more reactions, especially of Barbra.

It was like about a year's time in the late 90's when this duet came out and Whitney and Mariah did their duet together on When You Believe, 4 of the greatest vocalists of all time, back when vocals mattered and were possible without digital manipulation as all the current crop of "artists" use as a crutch now. Notice today's "artists" have huge stage productions, lots of back up dancers and backup vocals, all of which are designed to cover up the fact, they can't sing very well, they are there because they know how to make themselves social media spectacles, not to deliver great vocal performances.

Barbra asked Celine to do the song with her due to a rumor started that Barbra did not like Celine. Barbra was supposed to sing during the Grammys, and she refused at the last minute and Celine was asked to sing Barbra's song.

Actualy its not the studio where they recorded the song they both did their part in 2 différents studios they met for this vidéo but it was already recorded they NEVER sang that song live one Time they were suppose too at the American music awards but at the last moment Barbara Streisand cancelled and said that she was sick but at that Time Barbara add stage fright for a numbers of year and the real reason was rather that problem that she add but a decade later she finally went back on stage and sang again

They blended so well together but this song has song some technical challenges for the singers as in the first chorus, Celine is right in the middle of her belting range so she has to exercise greater control to emulate vulnerability. She is not singing the melody either. Celine also phrasing right from the 2nd chorus into the bridge without a breath is really impressive.
