I wish all American kids would experience this at school so they can learn something about American History. It just bewilders me to think that there's American adults out there that went to public school from K-12 and don't know who our American soldiers fought (British Army) during the Revolutionary War---or even the century it was fought! I mean, how is that even possible in this Information Age?

It is a good point you raise! Unfortunately the American education system is the worst in the G20 way behind Japan, Germany and the UK and many others! I'm proud and from York England and really glad these events take place in the USA especially the original 13 states. In York we have Roman and Viking reinactments and always look forward to these!

I was thinking the same as you. This marching reflect our values; mainly discipline and coordination.

It is possible because they have the “what can my country do for ME” attitude, instead of asking what they can do for their country. It strikes me that the very “information age” you refer to is part of the issue, children with every piece of tech, in the form of gaming consoles, iPhones, noise cancelling headphones etc, don’t know how or why they need to go out into the fresh (sometimes) air and get involved with their friends,neighbours and community, to forge friendships, learn about community spirit and actually put something into the country they live in, it is the same parents/adults you refer to as being unable to answer questions about the USA that lavish their children/nieces and nephews/godchildren etc with the technology equipment and the excuse to stay isolated in their bedrooms/home and miss out on so much more of life and what it could do for them. It is NOT just an issue in the USA 🇺🇸, it is the same here in Great Britain 🇬🇧 and any country where advanced technologies are so easily accessible, and that is a very very bad situation, is it to be that in the future people can’t function without technology to rely on computers 💻 for everything? I hope NOT, but I wouldn’t bet against it. 😞🇬🇧🏴🇺🇸🇺🇦👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

You picked the perfect spot and got each group's selection of music! Great sound and stereo effect from the camera. Wish they had been playing when I visited in the mid 60's but it was a very enjoyable and educational visit no matter!

Wow..this is spectacular.....some of these groups should go and represent our country in those fancy Russian .. Korean and Indian military parades... That would be a real hoot.

Many of them do actually. Especially The Old Guard. Third Infantry the oldest active Regiment in the U.S. Army.

Yes, especially now since the Ukraine War seems to prove parades are the only thing the Russian military's good for. Man, has that bubble been burst.

Thank you for this wonderful video posting. Some of the cadences seem slower than they should have been. Like a death march. Lots of variance in between groups. A good video indeed.
@BA-lk2ju2 жыл бұрын
In the historical time period represented a quick march was 96 beats per minute. A modern quick march is 120 beats per minute. So to a modern ear they may seem slow, but they are correct for the time period.

@Bigbassdrum602 жыл бұрын
and here comes the Old Guard in their Polyester Britiches and Polyester Waistcoats...Ya, really period uniforms, oh and let's not forget the plastic drum heads. The Founder of my Corps went to Fort Myer V. A. in 1964 when the U.S. Army wanted to start a drum corps. Thus the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps and NO WAY ORGINAL TO THE PERIOD THEY PORTRAY.
@markcharbonneau75292 жыл бұрын
Agree with your statement. The uniforms and whigs are not period correct. But the men and women are true masters of their craft. The dedication is amazing and entertaining.

The Yorktown Fife and Drum are the only ones that play the real 18th Cent Fife and Drum Music - unlike the Colonial Williamsburg Corps - they play lots of Scottish pipe tunes arranged for fifes and drums. What a shame. The Old Guard from the US Army plays whatever they want - they play almost nothing that is 18th Century.

Nope they are alumni of the colonial Williamsburg fife and drum. Because generations of former musicians come back for the reunion, they wear khakis and a polo/tshirt.

@@zzkatz08 I picked out Scots and English folk songs its ironic that they play Yankee Doodle as its derived from an English folk song different name and sung by British soldiers during the North American war as a comment on the continental army. Good to see Americans honouring their history to such a high standard.

@@gray3553 yankee doodle is a very patriotic song here in the states. Once used as a derogatory term/song against the American troops on the French/Indian war and during our war for independence, we took it and made a cry for independence. Still holds that same power now
