Those are some of the best sounding snare drums I've ever heard! What makes them sound so good!?!?
@brianb4285 Жыл бұрын
Yea, this particular set I believe were Buchler drums from Switzerland. 17" heads by 20" deep, with gut snares. I think we were using some type of swiss kevlar head at the time as well. And the drums are put into a rope tension hydraulic press (lightly) to get even tension on the rims, then the rope is pulled evenly around the drum and tide off with a pig tail and the left over rope is woven into the drag rope.

Super clean playing especially given the rhythmic modulations! Anyways, thank you for sharing

RED COATS???.....PLEASE READ THIS FIRST The musicians of George Washington's Continental Army wore RED coats with blue trim, so they would not get shot at during the battles. US musicians were on the battle field behind the front line on infantry soldiers. And would play musical commands given by the US officers. The infantry soldiers firing rifles could not hear or understand the officers vocal commands so musical commands were created to inform the infantry soldiers to flank, fire, reload, retreat, etc. It was a gentleman's war, with ethics. The US infantry soldiers wore BLUE coats with red trim. The opposition infantry wore RED coats as well. Though the stylings of the British RED Coats were different than the stylings of the US Continental Army, basicaly the buttons and trim design were layed out differently between the British coats and US coats, including the US musicians coats. During that time period everyone standing on US soil was mostly from Europe. England, France, Germany, Spain, etc. So the designs were similar, rooted from Europe.

onestly glad to hear these fifes and drums and not the "usual" patriotic songs along with the usual "yeah patriotism!" when America actually nicked a few melodies/tunes from British songs. :D "My Country 'Tis of Thee" is based on "God Save the Queen" (UK/British National anthem) "Free America" is based on "The British Grenadiers March" "Star Spangled Banner" is based on "The Anacreon Song" (Basically an old drinking song) I also think "Hail tot he Chief" is based off of some old Scottish poem, but I could be wrong on that one. Anyway, top form and great performance. Makes me look forward to this year's similar event for UK's military music.

Those cooperman snare drums, sound fantastic. DCI and DCA, should try to make their drums sound like real snare drums, instead of cardboard boxes. One problem they're using Kevlar heads, and it tightens so tight it's like drumming on cement. Plus they play very few rudiments, they do plenty of Rim shots at the rimshot, arms flaring all over the place, the heads are always bobbing, and you need to be a juggler in order to be in a drum section. It's a total embarrassment to anybody that is or was a real rudimental drummer. Today is September 29th 2022. Former member of the Floyd Bennett golden eagles from Brooklyn New York, 1960 and 1961, and a former member of the Long Island sunrises, 1964 through 1968. Also started the American Spirit senior alumni Corp along with John Dowling, may he rest in peace, that was in 1992. Today is September 29th 2022.
