I have no way of writing to Zakirji - hence this forum. Maybe this message will get to him. Zakirji is uniquely talented and multi-faceted having mastered so many Gharanas (if not all). Hence, a plea: Zakirji, please write hundreds of books...please....please...please. Please don't make the mistake that people of our region is known for, i.e., pass knowledge only to family/etc. Please write hundreds of books...please ....please. I don't mean 1/4" thick 5"x6" tiny versions that we all saw and read. I mean authoritative book of knowledge on Tabla; covering origin, history, construction, Gharanas and detailed comparison of them meaning what the differences are and how to play them, technicals like how to practice/etc., how to keep taal especially vilambit, how to accompany, how to transition from solo practice to accompaniment, details of solo performance, and so many others aspects that I am illiterate enough not to even know. I am sick and tired and sad of seeing our best minds simply vanishing into ether without leaving behind piles of original authored books. Each and every god-on-earth that we have amongst ourselves simply teaches his/her family members (and, I am sure, many disciples). But nothing for the library, for the infinite number of generations that are yet to come in future. Maybe I am being far too critical here, but I have seen this trend. Since Zakirji has a modern mind, as evident by his adoption of modern music, I am hoping and praying that he'll give my requests even a glancing consideration. If any of you know him, please, at least let him know the heart of my plea: writing down his superbly vast knowledge. Thank you.
