Drumming in a Musical Pit can be a very rewarding experience. Getting asked to play for a Community Theatre production is a great way to get better at your craft and meet some amazing people.
In this video I am playing in the Musical Pit for Grease being put on by the Fond du Lac Community Theatre. This is my 41st production with this Community Theatre Company.
In this video I show my entire week... from the first rehearsal to the final performance. I also give some advice on what you should be doing to be in a position to be asked to play for one of these gigs.

It certainly looks like you had multiple good days! I used to play trumpet in a concert band in elementary school but haven't played since. These Drumming In A Musical Pit videos of yours bring back a lot of fond memories! Thanks Rob!

I’m glad I could bring back some good memories. I have many friends that once played an instrument in school but never kept it up. I’m not sure why I decided to keep playing, but I’m glad I did.

Very nice! Loved the video. So glad you're doing gigs with the Community Theatre groups. Always so exciting when the music comes together and the show goes on. Audiences love it. Keep on drumming Rob!

Thanks Roger. As I mentioned in the video, this was my 41st Fond du Lac community theater show. You probably don’t remember this, or maybe you do… But for my 2nd community theater show I did., I played it with you. It was back in October 1989. It was called the Apple Tree. It was just me and you in the pit. You had an amazing set up with a lot of pre-programmed stuff in there. I had a really good time with that show.

@@RobMilanowski I'll always remember that one! Didn't realize that was only your 2nd show. My, how time flies. We did have an amazing set-up for that show. I don't remember why they didn't have a band, but you and I made up for it tenfold.

That was awesome and informative. The pit was bigger than I thought it would be. Being as I’m usually an audience member, I don’t see how big the pits are. Thanks for sharing.

@@gcjc41 we are very lucky to have a theater and a pit that large. I’ve played in several other pits that are half that size or less. Usually, you have to duck your head to move around in them. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Love the drumming videos! As much as I enjoy the food content, there's nothing wrong with a change once in a while. I know some KZbinrs who do restaurant "reviews" and just do nothing but steakhouses. Gets old and boring. Much love from the Rob Mob!

Thanks! I like my drumming videos also however, they are difficult to film. I need to make sure I’m paying 100% attention to what’s going on musically and as a result, sometimes setting up my camera and pressing record can be a difficult proposition. Our bassist in this pit looked over at me a couple times with that look of “come on guy pay attention”. And I 100% agree with him. I was happy that I didn’t miss any entrances. This show had lots of dialogue between songs so I felt a little more comfortable recording some of it.

When I saw “pit” in your title, naturally I thought you’d have some BBQ. Thank God you had some brats to keep the audience wanting more. Oh, I can play the kazoo. 😊

Yes… I needed to get some cooking in there. Next time I have a kazoo part in a Musical I’m playing, I’ll give you a call.

I could use a flexatone for my channel! Thanks for sharing this. Always great to see people involved in the local arts scene.

Yes… Absolutely! I could see a flexatone used very appropriately in some of your content.
