I played all the games aside from the DmC dmc game and its the stand out piece of music for me throughout the series for my money. Looked for it a year after I first heard it in the game and it still slaps.

THIS game. THIS GAME introduced me to the DMC franchise for real. I played DMC 1 as a kid and understood nothing. Then I watched a lets play of DMC4 and fell in love. That was in 2008... I played DMC4 one a shitty laptop in 2014 and I am so so so happy to see people still interested in all of those old games and their lore and music. This series is as precious to me as my own family. Thank you!

The first thing I think about is zeto theme from guilty gear strive. First part is hard rock blasting very in your face. And then in the end the music slows down and gets quiet and just gets very sad as the guy starting singing. Guilty gear strive have so much amazing music but that one is my favorite by far

okay, you asked for context of this song. well, main theme of the game and main theme of Nero in this Game, which was his debut in the franchise at the time, this song represents nero and his journey in this game. which personally I find quite boring, but the way the music interprets this journey is really good. Basically Devil may cry 4 is a romance story between nero and kyrie. the first part of the song represents everything Nero is. It's something harsh, violent and aggressive. the song's lyrics have some religious references and mentions of angels given the slight focus on religion in this game. the Chorus with the background organ represents both preparation for battle and unity. in fact it is a consummation of vows, of the love between Nero and Kyrie. and the last part is basically a conclusion of all this. that together they will make tomorrow a better day. an interesting fact is that in addition to the main theme and the nero theme, it is also the nero battle theme. it's this song that plays in battles during our gameplay with nero, but only with the cut of the first part.

Something I'm not seeing other people bring up is that for that oath interlude, it is in reference to the organization that Nero serves, a religious organization called the Order of the Sword that worships one of the key figures in Devil May Cry lore.

The headbanging in the first half followed by the huge tonal shifts in the second half is so cool. Video games are always so good at weaving story elements into their music in such abstract ways. Another really amazing VGM is Serpent Eating the Ground (also known as Serpent Eating the Horizon), absolutely one of my favorite boss music of all time. Fun fact the composer of the song is Revo, the composer for the first two (and part of the third) seasons of Attack on Titan.

Nero’s sword the red queen is built like a motorcycle clutch and has an engine that ignites the blade, you can rev it up in combat. It’s awesome.

If you ever find this comment; "DMC3 staff roll" and "DMC3 motion capture" both have the same type of effect like this song. (First section, second section) -Staff Roll; has "battle music 2" for the first section, and "main theme" for the second section. -Motion Capture; has "oath" as the first section, and "main theme" for the second section. Theyre both great. You should listen to them. However, if you were to make a video of them; id suggest "staff roll" as it is the sound track for the trailer for the game. I cant leave without mentioning the story of the game, shout out to an amazing story telling for games 3 and 4. 😊

From devil's never cry to this, basically there's duality and conflicting forces, the theme of DMC as a whole is demon vs humanity, so that's why there's heavy metal mixed with holy music. As you have heard from others, Dante is half human and demon, and cherishes his human side while using his dark side to fight demons and make money in his business that is named DMC.

For me, in addition to the comments i’m seeing about where and how it’s used and how the two parts of the song relate to each other, I think it also tonally and lyrically shows two facets of Nero as a character: the first part is the brutality and impudence; the rage. Nero is outwardly a punk and has a serious temper. The second part is where we move past that outward aggression and get a sense of _why._ What motivates Nero, what makes him tick. The answer is because internally he cares a LOT about doing what he feels is right, and even more so about protecting the people he loves. He IS part demon, but Nero comes to see that that side of him is not inherently evil, and in fact that it can make him even more able to fight for the future he wants to see with the people he wants to see it with.

So the reason this song is like two songs in one is because of Nero (Spoiler alert if you ever want to play the game). Nero is a part demon part human. The song is like his two sides. One the aggressive and powerful demon and one the more soft and emotional human. In the game you see that his fuels his demonic power with human emotions. Accepting what he is and using it to his advantage. Really amazing what you do Tony. Featuring my favourite game franchise with really powerful and great music. you are forgetting a very important part. Nero, and especially his gf aka main motivation for the game, are, let's say, closely church related. Therefore all the church vibes and literal oath in the middle of the song. And church in DMC 4 isn't completely holy as well, so that's another layer of this dichotomy in the song

One thing I feel like other's in the comments is that during the oath part, the female part is cut off before she says hate. Personally my interpretation of it is that Nero is saving his love interest from the Order of the sword, the lyrics that come after being from his perspective. Subtle thing but I feel like it really adds to the song and ties in well with the overall story of the game.

Nero, the left one, has a Sword "Red Queen"(if i remember correctly). Part "dum-dum" in the beningin(forgot how to write it) seems to be this sword acceleration option. it's makes slashing demons funnier. so it's like a starting or chainsaw.

The main character is a demon hunter who's sweet on a girl, and those two lifestyles don't always play well together, hence the conflict between the two halves of the song.

An overarching theme of the DMC series has always been Duality. Nero the character this song is about is part of an organization of Demon Hunters and Slayers assembled in the form of a Church. When the game starts Dante (The Character DMC is about) comes in HARD in the Intro and slays the head of the Church Nero is a part of before his very eyes and leads to an ensuing battle which has Nero hunting Dante for most of the game as the truth about his organization slowly comes to light and it contrasts on one side; the Righteousness of the oath he took and his love for the lady in the song, his childhood friend Kiryae (sure I spelled that wrong.) On the other side; it contrasts the corruption of the organization he's a part of and his own mysterious demonic heritage. In this game Nero was split between two worlds, the world of demons, combat and violence, a hero in his own eyes as he unknowingly worked for villains. And his truer self, a man full of love, and protective instinct seeking to stand against evil and protect those he loves. In the song you get the strong start, reflecting how the game immediately plunges you into violence right off the bat. And as it progresses the lyrics and complexity of the mess rises, and rises until Midway into his story he comes to the point where the very oaths he swore, turn him against the very organization he swore them to. He becomes the hero of this story. His and Kiryae's oath plays out in dramatized form, and he continues to fight, at peace with who he is to protect the world and the one he loves. True to his oaths, clear in his purpose. Shall Never Surrender is a song that is primary and centered around Nero and Kiryae and their progression through the storyline.

Ok where do I begin with this song so the song itself is the main theme of the character Nero who is like Dante a half demon specifically the son of Vergil Dante's brother put he doesn't know that anyways the first half of the song starts off as punk rock to represent Nero's punk personality and his grudge towards demons and the second part represents his relationship with his adopted brother crado and his sister kyrie the more oathy part you hear first represents his dedication to the order that he servers and crado and the more solo part represent's his oath to protect kyrie and seeing a better tomorrow with her.

It could also just be your sound setup. I don't like rap, hip hop, or RnB; though today they are the most popular. So music and setups are "all about da bass, no treble". I keep a slightly higher treble than your average person, but not high enough I still can't appreciate the bass that is there. Not sure what your setup is like, but it's possible you had your bass turned up.

I believe you've already covered Devil Trigger, so you'll probably at least have a vague idea of who Nero is. This is Nero's theme from DMC4, in which he is a part of the Order of the Sword - a religious organisation that governs the town of Fortuna, primarily worshipping the demon Sparda (Dante/Vergil's daddy) who saved and/or governed the town as a feudal lord at some point in the past. This explains the church vibe you got from the shift into the 2nd half of the song, and as other comments have already mentioned it could also be to do with vows to Kyrie, a side character in the game who has no function except to look pretty and cause a bit of melodrama.

The opening to this song sounds to be lifted from Rob Zombie's Reload. At least it sounds really reminiscent of it. That said, you could have used a video with higher audio quality. Also may I recommend you to check out Magia by Kalafina? It is the ending theme of Madoka Magica, which is one of the most influential animes of the last decade, if not all time.
