I bought the shared system for that reason exactly. Didn’t even know what granular synthesis was at that point. Now I only use Ableton as an tape recorder.

@@decapitateallcops3214 Took some time to get any sound out of it. Not going to lie, there was a few months of terror. Where I thought it was a waste of time and money. Reading the manual helped a lot, but these videos are great too. After you grasp the concepts, you can learn from just looking at where the cables are patched. All the lights flashing are for a purpose, and the symbols guide to where a gate signal is intended vs. a CV signal. My approach worked for my personality, and budget. Many people build up eurorack in stages, but could be a challenge if the modules don’t make sound, or lack character. VCV is a great resource to try out modules before jumping in.

@@decapitateallcops3214 😂 Fair enough, as long as you’re looking for a hands on experience. I think it’s the right move to give it a go, software is what sent me to eurorack. It was a serious problem, I had lost all passion for making music. The more I familiarized myself with the techniques used, the less I enjoyed the experience of making music. Started really hearing the accuracy of digital music, and it became kinda boring. Let alone the distractions of using a computer itself to make it. Now, as soon as the I switch on the case, I know I’m going to be occupied for hours. What is most enjoyable; is how you arrive at an unintended result that could never have been achieved by a typical synth. The cost and time spent are significant, but well worth it in the end.

Underlines the play-ability of the MakeNoise modules. That's why I have so many. This is great.

Excellent and inspiring, as usual. I've got a question. Is there a difference between attenuating the wogglebug output and moving the knob towards the ego side without input?
@hlprmnky Жыл бұрын
EGO vs ID controls the likelihood of high vs. low voltages and how much difference there is likely to be between each clock-pulse of sampling (or how “smooth” the stepped random seems to be), but even a very EGO-driven bug, if it’s not choked all the way to silence, is still gonna give you a max voltage stepped random pulse *some* of the time. Attenuating the output lets you free your bug to explore the full range of stepped random behavior, but scales the range of the excursion down to whatever you find useful at the input side.
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC Жыл бұрын
@hlprmnky has it right! It's not exactly the same, though in this case it probably would have been just as good or maybe even better to just turn down the Id somewhat :)
