It’s always good to have an open mind and explore everything GarageBand has to offer..we musicians need not limit ourselves to personal taste..I for one was only using the beat sequencer but now am exploring the rest of the drums..thanks again Pete..another very helpful tutorial..you the man 😎

Cheers Bruce. Yes, as soon as you say “I’m. It trying that” you really are limiting yourself aren’t you? It’s always worth trying new and different things as you never know what will work for you.

If you tap two fingers on one of the drum pads, keep your fingers on it, it will keep playing. Then moving your fingers closer or further away, it effects the speed. Moving up or down, controls the volume. I made a short video on my page with a few tips about GarageBand. I mentioned you in the description too.

Yeah nice! It’s a good tip for sure that I have covered but always seem to forget!!

I love GBs drum sequence. I think it’s among the best ones in iOS. Even from the paid auv3s I have I prefer GB’s. And for drum samplers (which GB doesn’t have) I have a bunch of good paid ones, but I use DawnBeats (free version)the most and just export it into gb.

@@PeteJohnsMusic Thanks Pete, I went into acoustic drums and just did it manually. I thought it might be automatic because I used to use Real Drummer in GB for Mac and it has all the categories like fills rhythms and endings but this is fine. Cheers from Port Macquarie!

Hi Pete! So I like to use my own drum kit when recording, I have them all mic’d into an 8 channel preamp then into two mixers for left n right and plugged into the 1 + 2 channels on garage band. Everything records but I’m not getting the punch that I’d like. I’ve been playing around with the compression, attack,, track pan, release and so on, close but no cigar. Any suggestions will be great. Thanks Pete for all you give us... steve

Hey Steve. So I have. A heap of drum videos that might help you from my recent videos. You’re probably looking for some more aggressive compression like the RoughRider3 or FAC Maxima plugins. This video playlist might help. kzbin.info/aero/PLc8Xg_23Wa570k6K17c_Kd9tT-FRGZoCH

If you play drums manually in iphone ios Garageband, how do you quantize drum part after recording, so drums are all in perfect time - if some of the drum part is not in perfect time during recording? In other words, is there a way of getting manually played drum part in perfect timing without having to manually adjust each element of drum part? I believe this is called quantizing. Thank you.
@PeteJohnsMusic Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can use quantization to achieve this. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWeYgXiLfrtqbMk&feature=shares

Can you please explain why I can't paste the start of a drum beat on the second or third beat of a bar without it automatically shifting the preprogrammed beat. Example: when I paste a 4 beat pattern that has a crash cymbal on the first beat into the timeline on the second or third beat of a bar it shifts the crash. Perhaps there's something to turn off to stop that from occurring?? Regards
@PeteJohnsMusic2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you’re using Drummer. It will try to “help” you by shifting the beats. You’ll need to either use merge to make it an audio track, or use this trick to change the Drummer to a MIDI track. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o56ci6t9lNtmgZI&feature=shares

Kind of a bummer you can’t just customize each individual drum pad for the acoustic kit so you can play your customized kit to sound better live. For instance, there should be an option for each drum component to tweak the settings as in volume distortion reverb echo all of that stuff. Wish you could do that and then save the settings to a kit so you can open it and play it with all the customized sounds live. Also, should be able to mix and match drum parts from all different drum kits for instants. You should be able to take the snare sound from one kit and put it into another kit This goes for all the other parts of the drums like base and symbols should be able to mix match all of the kids into one customized kit to your liking. (I’ve always been big on mobile drumming apps where are you tap the drums and play along to songs on your phone and making little drum covers. So this would be very beneficial for me and would make a lot of sense in general)
@PeteJohnsMusic2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s pretty good but you’re right - there’s a lot of room for improvement in this stuff.

I had no clue about the velocity settings for drums. 😂 Thank You!! I like to separate all of my drums so each has its own track-something a collaborator asked for to make his mixing job easier. I found when I do this it also allows me to better hone in on small mistakes. Do you have a manual drums mix tutorial with the drums separated like this?
