Here you'll see Matt Flacche playing the drums to "Blue Jean" by David Bowie. The video was shot in 720p, at 60fps for better motion capture, while the audio was recorded using Focusrite Clarett 8PreX and Clarett OctoPre interfaces, and mixed with Reaper DAW. In this video, Matt created some fresh original drum parts to breath new life into this 80's classic.

Thanks. They are new, as in made late last year, 2017. That's the Starclassic badge they currently use for Japanese-made kits.

I wasn’t aware that you could still get the non Star sets from Japan. I figured it had all been moved to China. That’s good to know. I own a older Japanese Bubinga set. Like yourself.....I’m a Tama guy....

Yes, you can still special-order Starclassic drum to be made in Japan. It's worth the 120-150 day wait. The only down side is the current exotic veneers they use on the Chinese-made kits are not available in Japan. However, they are very flexible on the finishes, and they can even do some older discontinued finishes, like scorched copper burst... I almost got that!

Just curious.... Who did you use to order this kit. I wasn’t even aware you could order special sizes (13” floor Tom) .

I went through Bentley's Drum Shop in CA, but you can go through any authorized Tama dealer, including Rupps in CO, Forks Drum Closet or Memphis Drum Shop in TN, Drum Center of Portsmouth, or Dale's in PA.

Thank you. I had a lot of help while learning how to use this new digital equipment. The new recording equipment is working well; now I can appreciate the difference. I didn't have the timbale mic'ed for that recording, but next time I will. I got a new mic for the 13x13 floor tom, so that freed up an e904 for the timbale.

Hey Matt how do you like the 20” kick versus the 22” on the Pearl kit?

I really enjoy the 20" kicks. They let me set up the toms lower and flatter. With single-ply EMAD batters, and the new Tama "fiberskyn" style resonants (and a 4" port), they sound GREAT recorded!

Yes sir. I played Tama drums from about 1982-2009, then tried Pearl drums for about 6 years. I'm happy to be playing Tama again!

Pearl makes good drums, I just prefer what Tama offers.
