This drum cam of the song “Toxic Garbage Island” from the album “The Way of All Flesh” (2008) was recorded in Munich on the “Magma Europe Tour 2017”.
Mario Duplantier got successful and well-known with GOJIRA. Within their progressive elements it is first and foremost their own sound and unusual song structures which differ from others. Mario is a very talented and tight drummer who works very hard for his success. Technical and rhythmic heavy precision drumming as well as jazzy drum breaks, blast beats and precision tom fills brand his style.

Hassanbulat I love Chris Adler but he isn’t as good as Mario from a song writing perspective. Lamb Of God has got to become more progressive. They haven’t really done anything “innovative” since Sacrament. Wrath was just okay and the last two just aren’t metal staples to me. Tomas is for sure in the same conversation as Mario. I would love to see Chris really put together some more low/mid tempo songs that are single bass drum only but very progressive. I think we all have had enough of the constant driving double bass from Lamb of God.

dafi723 yea he does you can see his bass drums are stuffed to the max and taped like crazy on the beater side. Usually a straight give away his bass drums are triggered. The rest of his kit is acoustic though. Love this guys style one of the best drummers on the scene. His warm up procedure is ridiculous... literally plays straight dbl bass to a metronome for an hour straight non stop. He put a video of it up on his Instagram. Listen or watch them playing their song remembrance.. the outro breakdown is awesome.. tight ass footwork played to the breakdown guitar riff.

*Toxic Garbage Island* *Despite what a lot of people think, this is one of only a handfull of gojira songs, that details climate issues in a specific way.* *The subject in question is the great pacific garbage patch, which is a collection of plastic waste, aproximately the size of Texas, floating around the pacific. The message of the song is made very lyrically direct, but is still handled in a philosophical way. The only way Gojira know how. Musically this is also one of the more distinct songs from the band. It starts with a very odd groove and switches between that and one of their most melodic riffs.* *Verse 1* Mysterious form, soul in the dark Under this heavy sealing concrete waves Followed by servants, funeral cortège This pale ghost is gathering his strength *Interlude* Ghost, pale The procession is crawling *Verse 2* Plastic form, dead things, it is now so clear How could I fail to understand? Cities are burning, the trees are dying My heart awake, but still *Chorus* Pain is killing me Pain is killing me *Bridge* Take this pestilent destruction out of my way The great pacific garbage patch is exhausted And the world is sliding away in a vortex of floating refuse With the sacred one you have lost *Outro* Plastic bag in the sea Plastic bag in the sea Plastic bag in the sea Plastic bag in the sea

I’m a big Mario fan but I can’t understand what the vocalist is saying. I’m admittedly old but would consider myself a heavy metal fan. I think I’m getting around to the belief that death metal is basically instrumental music and that the vocals aren’t meant to be understood but are rather just another instrument in the band. Any help would be appreciated.
@jamisonr
@jamisonr 3 жыл бұрын
You hit the nail on the head....with "extreme" metal, I have always viewed the vocals as a "musical instrument" and the content of the lyrics are secondary. Whether it was Chuck Schuldiner of Death in 1990, Ihsan of Emperor in 1993, Grutle Kjellsson of Enslaved in 2000, and so on, all different styles and all just instruments for the music.
