I admire the ability to speak while playing a groove. I've played drums literally for 3 decades and I'm resolved to this being impossible for my feeble, singular 🧠.

I had a drum teacher tell me you should be able to read a newspaper aloud while playing a groove. I'll bet that'd be pretty hard with this one.

Mike, you're stressing me out!!! Is thing in triplets or not? Because the notation is in straight time but you keep playing the 6 notes in beat 3 as a sextuplet, like they're all evenly spaced. And when you showed the simplified version, it was played in straight time with the second kick noticeably earlier... What is going on Mike??!?!

Do you just mess around and come up with KILLER grooves like this and think "I need to share this this is awesome" or is it more "I really want to give people a great groove to work on, I'm gonna make one" just curious lol! Also, you often talk on your podcast about being able to tell if an educator wants to be there, wants to teach and enjoys it by watching them and let me tell you mike, from what I see you would be up to loose limbs to do what you do! Keep up the awesome work 👊
@mikeslessons3 жыл бұрын
Ali, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your kind words. As for the process it all starts with the category, in this case it was Displaced Backbeat grooves. Then I sit at the kit and come up with 20 or 30 grooves that sound good. Then I categorize them into skill levels (1-30). After that I find my top 12 which gives me 2 full courses for my website and for the students there. Then as I'm filming all 12 lessons I'm looking for a groove that would work well for my KZbin audience. Something that is tangible for an Intermediate player, yet something that a pro could work on for a few days while trying to grow it into something unique and original. And that my friend, cause me to film this exact groove you y'all :) Hope that helps, Mike J
