"Fudge Pickled Punk Rock" had me in stitches. Absolutely love the fact you not only left it in but you also put it as it's own 'chapter'. Thanks for being so real and not just leaving the polished bits in. I'll be sure to give this one a go!!

I'm gonna admit, that to the untrained ear, it does/could/may come across as an "easy" groove. Each section, or "skill" point that's covered, absolutely proves otherwise! The breakdown of each individual part, academically, followed by practically, on the kit is pure gold. Someday, when my brain can comprehend the math and the ability, beyond an AC/DC groove, I just might sit down and try and raise the game with things like this. The world, as a whole, needs more enthusiasm, energy, and personality captured in this video...👏👏👏👏

I've been hitting drums for over 25 years.. Completely natural and "self taught". I just subscribed to your channel this morning. I have decided that it's time for me to learn how to play. (correctly) There is just something about the excitement that I can essentially start over! I've been wandering around YT watching vids. I am so damn happy that I found your channel (it found me) EXACTLY what I needed. (I am the guy that has developed a 20 year habit of dropping the hats on the snare hit etc) Liked, Subscribed and Bellclicked "ALL"

Same here, man. I've been calling myself a drummer for 35 years. But it's in the last 5 or 6 years that I've become absolutely passionate about mastering this instrument rather than just bashing out rock beats. And I've always appreciated Mike's lessons and I'm signing up next week when I have some time off and can really dig in to the full lessons. Looking forward to it!

A great example of how you can make life more difficult instead of easier and that's what drummers get excited from, aren't they? I am. These kinds of exercises really make you progress. I love it when bands have these kinds of very crafted drummers because it makes the band much more interesting and their playing more smoothly (the drummers at least). Thanks Mike and all the best for you and your family during your Christmas holiday.

Mike, you have inspired me to take on this groove of yours and master the five skills, or at least try. I have the pattern down, not perfectly, but I can play through it at a slower tempo. The high hat will be the last ingredient. I have to admit, I'm a little intimidated, but I'm going to get it, no matter how long it takes. Thanks for your inspiration Mike.

Yes, it's fantastic to learn in this way. Having advanced results of how it should sound decent and explanation you're definitively get the reward. of being able to play or use some portion in your play someday. Niuances such as both time exact precise hitting and not, with variable strength it is really challenge. Example beat like that is in Spin Doctors song - Two Princes. Lots of hidden tricks there as well. I though i have it but once i record my self I know that there is much more practise before me. Thanks for lesson.

I’m a 40-ish year old bass player that had some physical issues wreck my bass playing and for physical therapy I bought a e-kit and have been trying to force myself to learn drums. This vid highlights the need for a real kit and how complicated a “simple” groove can be. I can almost get these things, but even with decent mesh heads the hat and cymbal response makes that groove very difficult to hear the feel correctly. Thanx for this vid

This is PURE GOLD!! If someone wants to be a drummer that actually makes a living doing it and his considered one of the elites in the field. Well then you should be able do this in your sleep. Example of how hard this actually is to do: Mike plays this groove incredibly well...now if your being really picky and your ears are wide open you can that even Mike has some very tiny fuzzyish flams in there between the hi hat/snare and lil bit with the kick barely noticeable. On the other hand I saw Matt Chamberlain play a groove very similar to this but with a lil more complication in ghosts and kick pattern and couldn't hear any fuzz whatsoever(not to mention with of course grid like precision)!! This is the hard stuff that separates the greats from the pretty goods. Study this!!
