This is one of the sudoku that really benefits coloring most of the grid, and this one Simon barely colored at all. You had 3 pairs of numbers for a total of 6 colors. 12 pair, 34 pair, and 78 pair. Admittedly 78 didn't need it that bad.

Got a 32 minute solve time! Haven't seen the vid yet, but I enjoyed the break in with the corner vs and the equal sum line in the center being restricted to an 8 or 9 since all others would result in doubles along the diagonal. Very enjoyable.

I think I've now had, bizarrely, about five non-gas puzzles in a row that have taken me just over 1 hour to solve. This one took 61:17. It was quite a neat one, with the cross-interacting logic. I was scared for a moment that I had broken it near the end, but it was just a mistaken digit placement, and fortunately I was able to backtrack and correct it.

25:56 My less elegant path at this point: the high digits on the column 9 line (5678) made me suspicious of r7c8. Investigation quickly shows it cannot be green because r7c3 makes it the low green (12) and then the box 9 blue line is broken. Since it can't be green, then the box 8 segment r45c7 can't be green and must be purple. A minor advantage of this path is you already have done the logic to eliminate 12 from r8c7 once you get there.

Simon's solve was brilliant, but he failed twice to exploit the constraining power 💪 of the *negative-slope diagonal:* 🔹At playback time 8:52, it was possible to place *orange* on the negative diagonal (and immediately after, also in *box 3* and on the other diagonal). 🔹At playback time 16:59, the two *endopints* of the negative diagonal provided a more elegant way to prove that the lower-right *V* must be *purple,* and hence the upper-right *V* must be *green.* They must have a different colour. Otherwise, they would break the blue line in *box 5.*
