I was told by salespeople that this was sea asparagus plant so I kept it in constant moist saline-watered soiled, without drainage, for months! Accidentally found out it wasn’t sea asparagus, but a rhipsalis by a KZbin video from Garden Answers and I freaked out. The plant was looking green but shriveled like it was thirsty. Changed to gritty mix and watered like regular tropical succulents and, within few weeks, no more wrinkles. I think I saved it just in time. Tough little drunks. I hope mine grows up to be as good looking as yours. Thanks for the wealth of knowledge you give.

discoplate, oh my goodness this made me laugh so hard! Good GREIF sales people need to get their facts straight! I’ve heard some pretty crazy stuff from salespeople myself, but that one takes the cake! 😂🤣. Glad you caught it, and hopefully your baby will survive and be much healthier soon! And yes, they are in the Rhipsalis family! 💓

Dancing Bones is the other name you were referring too... I have one that is 35+ years old. It grew to be a huge plant but sadly, it started dropping like crazy. I don't know if a plant can just get too old. I recently took what was left and repotted it in fresh cactus soil and fed it. It's starting to show new growth! I bought a new one recently and hope it does well. I have a water meter that shows that's there is moisture at the bottom but dry near the top where the roots are. Your's is lovely!!!

I had never seen anything like this plant until today when I took a trip to a nursery and saw a massive older one that I ended up purchasing for $40 with a large lava rock because I loved it so much but it need a LOT of tlc. They didn't know the name of it but I asked on a forum and they were able to id it for me and upon searching for some info, I found this video. It looks like yours is doing great; could you talk about your lighting and watering schedule a bit because I have seen some conflicting info and yours is obviously doing very well. Thanks in advance for your time.

I think this is the same type of plant my daughter picked out at a nursery. It wasn't labeled and it's super tiny. Maybe I will know for sure what it is when it's larger. It's some type of rhipsalis. Thanks for the video!

is there a bit of pencil cactus growing from the center? Beautiful plant, how do you propagate them, please?

You forgot to mention that they have beautiful Yellow and Orange Flowers in March or April each year!!!

Michael Acker, I thought about that after I posted it! 😂. I was just thinking about repotting not really about facts, and then once I uploaded it I was like “Dang it!!! I should have put a photo of the flowers in!” 😉. Oh well, there’s always next time! 🌵🌵❤️

I inherited a giant one and I found the leaves are continuously dropping throughout the year. Is this normal? Do you know what might be the cause? Over water? Or underwater?

Is this the same as a mistletoe cactus and if so mine has brown dried leaves on the top am I overwatering or underwatering
@phileofarm17 жыл бұрын
soniabebbington, sometimes these come labeled as mistletoe cactus, but true mistletoe cactus is a different variety. Still in the Rhipsalis family. But the mistletoe is Rhipsalis baccifera. Their care is pretty similar, although I’ve never had one myself, so I can’t say from experience, only research. It’s hard to say for sure about the brown leaves, but typically if they are dry and brown it’s under watering. And if they are plump and yellow or brown, that is overwatering. Also you could try giving it a little bit of epsom salt in its drink, to increase its magnesium. This can help them utilize their water better. But my best guess from your description is it might like a little more water. Not too much if it’s winter where you are, but a bit more than your usual perhaps. If your potting mix isn’t super well draining, then I would suggest smaller more frequent watering rather than soaking the whole pot. They still don’t like soggy roots for long periods of time. They are used to frequent rains, but the nooks and crevices they grow in on tree trunks dry out very fast so their roots get lots of air. And they love this. Hope that helps! 💓

Can you do an update on your chinese dunce cap and your greenovia?
@phileofarm17 жыл бұрын
Pink Sugar, sure, but they are SUPER sad! 😭😭😭. They got abandoned when everything got brought in for winter, and I didn’t find them for about two months cause I was so sick! 😢😢. But I can do an update on their sad state... they WERE so gorgeous and the pot had filled up almost totally! It’s super sad, but considering how sick I was and what happened it’s amazing half my plants didn’t have the same fate, so I’m very grateful only a handful got forgotten! But I suppose I could do an update if you still want to see their sad state?

I still want to see the video about your chinese dunce cap. I have one getting here soon in the mail and I want to know more information on them because I can't find any informative videos on this guys. I'm also curious if the dunce cap is a rare or hard to find plant. Im also really glad that not all your plants suffered. I also had to bring all my succulents inside for the winter. I left some of my aeoniums outside but under shelter that wasn't closed in. The cold air was still getting in and the next day I saw a few small dents on the some of the leaves. I'm not sure why that happened but it didn't have them before. They're doing fine now though. This past Friday I brought everything outside in the afternoon. They were outside for 2 days in the sun and the weather was warm outside. Some of the echeveria had dents on the leaves and discoloration. The discolered areas are really soft. I think they were sunbleached but I don't understand why. I had everything inside for a week with no light. I then took them out because the weather is fine now. I've done this before and I've never had this happen before. The weirdest thing is that only one or two got sun discoloration l and I took everything out at the same time.I did check for bugs but nothing. Has this happened to you before? Hopefully you're feeling better. I really enjoy your videos. ♡♡♡

Fannie Matthews I bought mine on Amazon 👍🏽
@phileofarm17 жыл бұрын
Fannie Matthews, I buy mine in 40lb bags from a local nursery. But I know you can get it online, or on Amazon. I thought about selling it online cause so many people have such a horrible time finding it. But the shipping ends up being so high I feel like I’m ripping people off, even though all online places have to charge huge shipping costs too.... I don’t have any desire to sell something people can find on amazon unless I could figure out some way to offer it cheaper, and if I could do that and help people save money I certainly would! But you can order it on amazon! And if I find a cheaper online source or way I could provide it cheaper I will certainly let people know through a video etc. 😊
