Very similar to what we called apple crisp when I was growing up. One of the best ways to deal with apples that are near the end of their shelf life.

Looks delicious. I have never made a puree with my crumble. I always have custard, ice cream and cream on hand so everyone can have what they like with their crumble. Some like the lot!!

That sounds delicious - I love a crumble. Sometimes add bits of dried apricots to the apple mix, but if I do that, would leave out most of the spices.
@patriciagoulter2 күн бұрын
That looks amazing, will definitely try that, I hadn't thought of using flaked almonds, (or rum for that matter), I tend to use an apple called Peasgood Nonsuch, an enormous apple, that is quite sweet, and breaks down to a sauce when cooked.

Love your winter opening Cheryl I will be making this tomorrow. It should make the house smell good and I’ll be having ice cream with it and drizzling some Carmel sauce on top😊. We are all very excited to see the next season of All Creatures Great and small that I’ll be on the 12th. I believe it’s already aired over there because it was made there, it’s a hit here in the US on Masterpiece Theater. Thank you and Happy New year and God Bless to you and the family from Florida.

Can you do this in air fryer
@WhatsForTea2 күн бұрын
Absolutely! I'd keep an eye on it though...or pop some foil on the top half way through...just to prevent it burning 👍
@louisalouisa22922 күн бұрын
Putting lemon juice on apple slices prevents them from turning brown and gives them a lemony flavor. The citric acid in the lemon juice reduces the apples' exposure to oxygen, which inhibits enzymatic browning.
@chrisholman22892 күн бұрын
If you slice the apples, there’s no need to stew into a sauce first.
@diannebayley46442 күн бұрын
I like the stewed apples then the chunkier ones. Texture makes a lovely difference, I think.
@chrisholman22892 күн бұрын
@ that’s cool then, it’s each to their own on these things after all. Keep up the good work with the channel btw. I often look at your meals of the week for inspiration on shopping day.

I have never seen the topping prepared like this - every recipe I have tried the dry ingredients, sugar, flour, spices, and oats are combined, and then the butter mixed in! I have never seen the butter and flour mixed and then the sugar and oats added after! Is there a reason for that order?
@99bowyer2 күн бұрын
You can't rub the butter into oats and nuts - all crumble recipes call for butter rubbed into flour then add everything else.
@WhatsForTea2 күн бұрын
Just the way I've always done it Stephanie :)
@JanetBrown-px2jn2 күн бұрын
I like to cream the butter, and sugar till very soft, then add flour, salt, oats, or nuts if using, this way you get small lumps of crumble, which is how I like it, as that way you get a real crunch in your topping, I much prefer that sort of topping to a breadcrumb type topping.😊
