Rewriting A Canterlot Wedding

"I'm actually surprised that you're here. I guess I forgot to account for you in my plans." "Yes, I suppose that is something I've gotten used to. Ponies forgetting that I exist." All. Of. My. Yes. Unfortunately, I feel the episode would have to be longer to make all this happen. There's only so much you can fit in a two-parter. I agree with most of these ideas, but there is something else I'd like to suggest. While Luna being at the wedding may not have changed much (if Chrysalis was able to wreck Celestia, I can't imagine what would've happened to Luna), I do agree with Antony C that Luna showing up out of nowhere at the reception and innocently asking if she missed anything was a "pompus, pimpling plothole". As an alternative to her arriving to take on Chrysalis, what if Chrysalis misdirected Luna to somewhere away from Canterlot and had a bunch of Changelings distract her while the fight was taking place? How could Luna possibly fight Chrysalis and telepathically contact Twilight all at the same time? Is Luna able to do two things at once? Secondly, there's a point Joshscorcher brought up. What if Chrysalis revealed herself because her cover was blown and she was just stalling for time? When she took Celestia, she had to SOMETHING while her "children" were breaking through the shield. Plus, even if Chrysalis was defeated, there's a high chance that the Changelings could break through and swarm the wedding hall to take down Celestia for hurting their queen. I don't quite consider Chrysalis to be a "tactical genius" as Josh believes her to be, but I also think she's a bit smarter than how she appears to be.

My first gut reaction to the conclusion of the episode was to the "Shining Armor and Cadiance's love being the end-all save-all move." Don't get me wrong, I like the idea that a person's love for another can give them an inner strength that they never knew they had and allow them to overcome challenges they otherwise never thought they could, but this just struck me as far too Deus Ex Machina. I would have preferred if the Shinning Armor and Cadiance's power came at such a point that that it opened a hole in the Changling's lines, allowing the mane six to get to the Jewels and using those to best the Changling horde, but only the horde. Chrysalis would survive the retaliation of the Jewels and break the Mane 6 up, singling out Twilight as the 'lynch pin' of the group and focusing on her. I think this would be a good point to incorporate many of the elements you describe, particularly with the foreshadowing of Discord, but also helping to foreshadow Twilights rise as the princess of friendship.

I would switch Cadence and Shining Armor's roles. This would provide a stronger emotional feel, because Twilight would have to cope with her friends seeing her brother who she'd claimed was so wonderful, uncaring, rude and NOT EVEN REMEMBERING HER. Twilight would have to deal with the conflict of what she remembered, and what she would be seeing. Plus, Chrysalis would be feeding off the princess of LOVE herself, meaning a more plausible amount of power to defeat Celestia with.

I just kind of assumed that Chrissie wanted SA's shield to be up, since it puts such a huge mental strain on him. That made it much easier to control his mind and distract him from any behavioral discrepancies between her and the real Cadance. I can't speak for the rest of the plot holes, though. :p And seriously, Luna just slept through all that racket?!

What if (In the original) Queen Chrysalis trapped Luna in one of those cocoon things while the main 6 were off fighting changelings? And for the whole time Luna was trying to wake Shining Armour up by trying to dream walk in to Shining Armour's mind and tell him about Cadance. Just a thought.

I put a lot of thought into rewriting A Canterlot Wedding At the end of part 1 instead of banishing her to the caves Fake Cadence puts Twilight on a train back to Ponyville. (Minus 1 stupid for Chrysalis) Twilight ditches the train and heads back into Canterlot where she gets cought by a regular guard and thrown in the dungeon. Twilight tries to break out of the dungeon by blasting through the floor and falling into the caves where she finds real Cadence. everything continues as normal until Twi and Cadence crash the wedding, where upon Chrysalis doesn't immediately reveal herself (Minus 1 stupid again) Cadence starts saying a bunch of things only the real Cadence would know, then Celestia turns on Chrysalis and attacks her, Chrysalis wins. Then Shining Armor (Who is not under any mind control, because reasons) faints from the exertion of keeping his shield up so long. Then the episode continues as normal until the end (Except Chrysalis is scared when Cadence uses her love magic on Shining Armor, then orders her minions to attack before getting blown away by the shield spell) That solution fixes the main problem of Chrysalis being an idiot. Shining Armor and Cadence's introduction was minor to me, and the plot hole of the shield being up even though Chrysalis was already inside is somewhat diminished by removing Chrysalis's mind control ability.

When Chrysalis revealed herself and duelled Celestia, I think she was stalling until her troops break the shield. Had she tried keeping up her disguise, Celestia might have tried to reverse the spell on Shining Armour.

So basically a summary of what you said: A threat has been made against Manehatten, meaning Celestia and most of her royal guards go there to protect the city. Chrysalis makes her way into Canterlot as Shining Armour begins his spell/Celestia leaves. Then Chrysalis mind-controls Shining Armour to block everyone in the city IN, instead of out. Then it continues 'till the battle section. When the Mane 6 go for the elements, the changelings block their way. Fight scene happens. Applejack can tell who are her friends and who are Changelings, the only one who could (easily). She fights using her rope and bucking skills against Changelings. Rainbow Dash would be flying around, confusing changelings, etc. Rarity would be trying to fight, until she stumbles into a room full of gems. She starts using her magic to shoot gems at the changelings. Pinkie Pie would do the, well, exact same thing as she did in the show. Fluttershy, however, would be running around, trying to not be seen. However, as Rainbow Dash is fighting (awesomely) she'd hear 'Fluttershy' cry for help, and fly towards her. Applejack would recognize the trap, shouting at Rainbow Dash to stop, but Rainbow carries on, only noticing Changeling Fluttershy change back at the last moment, and she'd be trapped in the green goo. Suddenly, the real Fluttershy appears, and finds her courage to use The Stare on the Changelings, making 20 - 50 of them freeze in place. Applejack would try to help Rainbow, until Fluttershy tells her to help Twilight Sparkle. Applejack says no, and Fluttershy turns to Applejack, still using the Stare, and Applejack would go to help Twilight. However, even though the Mane 6 had been successful so far, the Changelings had managed to separate them. Rarity would have soon run out of gems, and Pinkie would be running out of tricks. Fluttershy would be straining herself to keep the Stare, and Rainbow would be struggling in the goo. Twilight would also be running low on magic. Applejack would be trying her best to keep the Changelings from overwhelming Twilight, but Twilight - straining to gather any magic she has left - would be thinking of her friends, brother, and Cadence. Twilight would suddenly do her magic-bomb-thing, gathering the attention of Chrysalis, and even Celestia. Twilight and Chrysalis would duel, quite like Celestia and Chrysalis in the episode. Chrysalis would soon defeat Twilight, and send her hurtling into Discord's statue in the palace garden. Applejack would run for Twilight, and see her unconscious. Applejack would then see Discord's statue crack, and then Chrysalis would demand Applejack to bring Twilight to her. Applejack refuses, but then Discord's statue crack gets larger. Applejack, faced with an impossible decision, would finally agree, and put Twilight on her back. As in the show, they'll be escorted back, but with Twilight on Applejack's back. Chrysalis would be reveling in her glory as her Changelings terrorize Canterlot, feeding off the fear. That is until Changelings guarding the door get slammed into the wall, and Princess Luna appears, after noticing the magical-bomb-thingy that Twilight did. Then Luna and Chrysalis would be bantering, but as that happens, Luna would be urging Twilight to wake up in her dream, and tells her to help Cadence and Shining Armour. Luna and Chrysalis would then start fighting, drawing Chrysalis's attention away from Twilight, as Twilight - still badly hurt - asks Applejack to bring her over to Cadence and Shining Armour. She then frees them, and the show plays out as it did before.

I remember when I first saw this episode that I fully expected Luna (the forgotten aileron) to redeem herself. So instead of the traditional 'love conquers all' story, maybe Luna could have used her own love for Celestia to draw Chrysalis away and allow the Mane Six to secure the elements. This didn't necessarily have to be Luna central but it would have allowed for a more complete resolution involving all the major characters. In the end the only heroes were Twilight and Cadence.

I love the changes you made! One thing I would add though, is that you mentioned Discord and his prison breaking open. But after that just kind of left him there. I would say that, in all the confusion and joy about the defeat of Chrysaliss, AJ forgot to tell Celestia and the others about Discord. And Discord escapes and flees into the Everfree forest until he is seen again later in the series. However, this would dramatically change the story line of later on when Celestia wants Fluttershy to sort of tame him. And then they would see he is gone. So maybe the crack in his prison could mean he could just sense more of what's going on around him.

Yeah, your version does sound good, only one thing I wish you could add/fix is Twilight getting captured by the changlings after getting exhausted, and Applejack trying to save her. That would make me like her a lot more after what happened in part 1. That part really changed my views on Twilight’s friends. Not to the point where I don’t like them. But to the point where I wish there were ponies who actually stood up for Twilight.

Long rant incoming. I think that people don't give Chrysalis nearly as much credit as she deserves. Something that was seemingly overlooked in the video Dr. Wolf linked was the threat of the Elements of Harmony. As it is the greatest obstacle to any villain's plan, it would doubtlessly be her first priority. This is supported by the fact that the first thing the changelings do upon penetrating the barrier is secure the Elements. So how would you deal with this? Well, how about getting rid of one of the wielders? Hence why she seems to act so out of character. She acts just enough out of character that Twilight will become suspicous, but not her friends, who assume it's just wedding stress. This leads to Twilight's banishment from the wedding, preventing suspicion when she isn't present later on. Note that this plan requires her to become Cadance. Making a threat against Canterlot certainly prevents a full-scale invasion, but since nopony knows who made the threat, it takes some of the attention off of the wedding, and, therefore, Chrysalis herself. Of course, there's still the issue of having to fight Celestia. I think that it really wasn't part of the plan at all. She only revealed her true form after her ruse was revealed, and the proceeding monologue was an improvised plan to buy time for the changelings to break the barrier. She never intended Cadance to escape the caves, and, although she probably shouldn't have put then so near each other, she hardly could have predicted that Cadance could prove she was the real one, or that they'd escape as quickly as they did. As it was, Twilight and Cadance arrived with only minutes to spare. Had they been even a little bit later, Chrysalis would have had an entire army with which to deal with Celestia. And again, she did send changelings to secure the Elements, which shows that she thought they MIGHT get out. They probably just did so sooner than she expected. And the argument about not being able to get love from terrorizing ponies? Here's a flaw- no one said they had to love the changeling directly. It might not be the most efficient method, but love takes many forms, and inactivity doesn't always mean nonexistence. An infiltration could have given then better access, but if ANY of them messed up, that's three princesses, the Elements, and a city full of angry ponies to deal with. Chrysalis is a genius. Deal with it. Or argue with me if you see any flaws; I enjoy this a little (a lot) too much.

i agree but what when placing the real cadence and twiligth so close to each others was that she hoped twilight would kill cadence after she(chrysalis) made fun of twilight. and also i think that even when twilight & co would have reached the elements wouldn't have worked. Twilights trust into her friends was shaken and i guess the elemnts wouldn't have worked with her in this situation (or after she killed one of her oldest friends) also i think the changeling hive must have been in a really thight spot when they simply gave up their cover (which was being upheld for thousands of years)

Shattered Star I like to think that Chrysalis actually intended for Twilight to KILL Cadence. That's just diabolical... If Twilight DID kill Cadence, she would likely be able to kill the three unicorns that blocked the entrance to the caves without a problem. She would come back to the wedding to see that she actually killed the REAL Cadence, unable to prove to everyone that this Cadence was evil, and go into a state of depression and guilt and possibly committing suicide. Thus, no more Elements of Harmony until they get a new bearer.... Then... Chrysalis could do as she pleased, having her changeling army to take care of Celestia and successfully gain control of Equestria. O_O

***** what when cryssy did know about that dance but she choose to feign ignorance. it was important for her to let twilight grew warry and ONLY Twilight assumed her plan was that the element of magic should be isolated from the other elements. Cryssy played Twilight skillfully and even celestia was fooled by her and turned her back on Twilight. It wasn't about killing Cadence but it was about breaking the element of magic and eleminating a possible threath.

However, I think that the show staff would not do that, mostly because of time constraints. It would seem a lot like a three parter, which I think the show would not do since they want to keep it at strictly two part episodes.

I also really love the idea of Twilight causing the magic thing to happen again in order to protect heir friends. But there are some issues; how would Applejack get away from the changelings to run to the garden and see Twilight, and what would happen to Discord after?

personally i liked the special the way it is however your idea would make a great sequel to it except instead of it being shiny and cadence's wedding it could be the wedding of big mac and cheerilee or twilight and flash and chrysalis could attack the wedding wanting revenge against the elements of harmony and cadence and with the discord part it could be also apart of some plot that chrysalis wanted to free discord and after being freed discord helps chrysalis

After hearing your ideas, I agree that it would've made a better and more memorable season finale. A final battle between Twilight and Chrysalis would've been epic.

You leave one detail hanging, though--with the statue of Discord beginning to crack, that would introduce a weakness in his prison that he would likely exploit to its fullest, thus releasing him once more. What happens when both Chrysalis and Discord are loose at the same time?!

While you added great ideas for the scenes on the Main 6 fighting, and what happens after, and a cameo from Luna, you really left very vague and incomplete ideas of what happened before that event. Not to mention that you added headcanon by having the Changelings not feed off only love, but fear. Here's how you can make it work without adding the "any strong emotion" and keeping the "just love": We see, in the episode, how the Changelings go around Canterlot, terrorizing the ponies and such, and capturing the Royal guards that tried to fight them. But one scene stands out: The changelings have cornered a family in a dead end alley, Carrot Top, Dr. Hooves and a filly. We see this three hugging each other, in fear, seeking mutual protection, and protecting what we can assume is their daughter. Now, the changelings feed on love, but it was never stated WHICH love. It can't be just Romantic Love. What about the love a mother feels for his son or daughter, the love friends feel for each other, etc? The Changelings would need to feed off love, but also keep their supply going, else they starve. Terrorizing Canterlot works good for fear, but it will eventually wear off, but Terrorizing Canterlot works even BETTER with love: During a crisis like that, families will try and be together, care for each other as much as possible, mothers will protect their children from harm (impossible to do if they don't feel love towards them), and the same can be said for any other form of family or friend relations, brothers and sisters, cousins, grandparents, aunts and uncles, etc. You want to spend time with your loved ones even more. They will be afraid of the Changelings, yes, but also FEEDING them the love they are feeling towards their families and friends even in this dark time of need. Adding it to the fight of the main characters, even the one you describe, makes it even more sense that the Changelings would only get stronger and stronger, even if the main 6 are winning: Applejack giving up to save Twilight and seeing that Discord may be free: She does that because she loves Twilight and all her friends, she doesn't want to see them get more hurt (which would happen if Discord is released) and that love she feels towards her friends feeds the Changelings. Fluttershy "manning up" and standing up to the Changelings to help Rainbow Dash, while able to stop several Changelings, this would increase the Changelings' powers at the same time because the emotion that drove Fluttershy to help Rainbow Dash was the love she feels towards her friend Rainbow Dash. The rest can very well go exactly like you pointed it out.

Your fixes make a lot of sense. I liked the episode well enough as it stood, but your changes would have made it better. The only real sticking point I had in the original was how easily Celestia fell. She's a millennia old power house who literally moves the heavens on a regular basis. She should not have been beaten that easily. My personal head-canon is she threw that fight to give Twilight/Cadence a chance to save the day, and that she was playing possum all the while, ready to step in if twilight and Cadence failed to arrive or failed to win.

That is an astounding revision to the scenes that take place in "Canterlot Wedding". Most notably the battle between the Mane 6 and Chrysalis. From a creative standpoint, I've learned you often get better ideas after long since implementing what you've already done. My guess is Shining Armor truly was one of those, "Hey! Twilight should have a big brother!" There are a few series that actually have rebooted to fix such things. Most notably is Mortal Kombat. If you observe Mortal Kombat 9 (The Reboot Start) you'll see how they fixed so many "What the...?" moments when the series was never intended to go beyond two games. Hindsight is always 20 / 20. And only experience in a world you're creating as you go can flush it out. Unfortunately the more you continue to flush it out the more you think, "Dang! Why wasn't this here before? It would've really made sense if..." I'm glad I stumbled on this discussion. It really gotme thinking of how much development a world, its characters, etc. can have once further knowledge is known with the benefit of feedback from those who involve themselves directly, or indirectly, in the creative process.

The reason why luna can sleep to all those ruckus is that she’s a heavy sleeper and this mainly comes from her work because she does work alone on night as a dream princess .

A lot of people say it was stupid for Chrysalis to fight Celestia, but Chrysalis didn't WANT to. But how else could she explain the second Cadence? It would take the episode into a corner because they'd have to find some crap way to tell who is the real Cadence, and Chrysalis would not be able to. As for the monologuing, she was probably trying to stall so she could call her army to her aid. Then she fought, because Celestia was giving her no choice. And Twilight's friends and the bridesmaids don't KNOW Cadence like Twilight and Shining Armor do, so Cadence's rude behavior could be chalked up to wedding stress by everyone but them. Shining Armor was having horrible migraines and putting all his concentration into keeping up the forcefield rather than how anyone else was behaving, and maybe Chrysalis WANTED to separate Twilight from her friends by making her accuse Chrysalis so she could trap Twilight and render the Elements useless because Twilight's, the element of magic, is the one that powers them up and none of the other Mane Six know how and you need all the elements to use them. And maybe she tried to get Twilight and Cadence together so Twilight could finish them off.. a dark twist, yes, but MLP is really more for the brony community than little girls nowadays.

I can see many of these ideas working to fix the problems brought up as well as enhancing the episode. While not all of them would work and some of them may require a bit of tweaking i think the episode woulds be even better then it was, and in my opinion one of if not the best episodes of the series to date.

It's possible that they felt that the fact there was a threat made against the city, was all the more reason to have the wedding to help take their mind off it. Kind of like the wedding they had in the last Harry Potter book. Though it always bugged me that SA just says there was a "threat made against the city" I kind of feel we needed more information than that.

About the discord thing I can imagine little bits of Chaos happen all throughout season three but nobody knows what's happening these acts of Chaos become a bit more each episode until Magical Mystery Cure where the ponies cutie marks are swapped by Discord and Twilight fixes it send sending Discord into anger as he reveals himself in this case Magical Mystery Cure would be a two-parter and somehow Discord gets reformed and twilight gets her wings and everything that happens in season 4 happens what do you think?

Several things. 1) Your climactic fight sequence is almost flawless and desperately exciting - plus gives the characters valuable actions. 2) It would add a lot of screen time. You'd need to cut aspects from the rest of the episode in order to add all this. Don't forget to factor that in. 3) Doesn't solve the huge issue that Chryssy had no reason to throw Twilight into the caves in the first place. 4) Discord's statue cracking is completely unnecessary and would be anticlimactic.

I really desperately want to see a fan version of this episode following this script. It would really add to the excitement of the episode, along with filling a lot of plot holes. Plus it incorporates Luna, and who doesn't want more Luna?

I found myself saying "YES!!!" all throughout this video. That would've been way better than what happened. I especially loved the how Luna was worked into the story. On that end, Luna could've just ended it right then and there, but I won't get into that :) Loved the video. Luna is best princess and pony

it does not take much to point out flaws, but to come up with an amazing alternative that still manages to stay true to what was already going on takes some real talent. Would love to see more of these "re-writes" as opposed to just flat out criticisms. This is also nothing against the writers of the show, they have restrictions of time and censorship to work against and do amazing things with what they have.

my mind is officialy blown... the whole story would indeed make much more sense, but in the original canterlot wedding, the attention went more on the love between cadance and shining armor (wich leads us to the events in the crystall kingdom)

I think instead of having every one diss twilight she instead walks in the castle to talk to Shining Armor but instead she sees Queen Qrisyles ( I don't know how to spell her name ) changing from Princess Cadence to her true form and she talks about her plan and then twilight runs to tell everyone but Queen Q closes the door on her then bans her to the forgotten cave and everyone wonders where twilight is and then once twilight got out and went to the wedding she screams "Stop!!" and the mane 6,Spike,and Shining Armor is happy to see her but then she says "She's Evil" and the mane 6 is disappointed that she still thinks this and then the Princess Cadence runs in and says "It's True" and then everything that Dr.Wolf said would happen

I'm thinking the scene with Discord's statue could actually work out nicely. It would explain in Keep Calm and Flutter on that Celestia knows that Discord's stone prison is weakening due to the fighting at Canterlot and feels they shouldn't put him through the same punishment again so then she goes to the mane six to try and reform him since his seal is almost broken. They could also use his powers in future attacks on the city and face anyone who triumphs over Celestia. What do you think?

And what happened to Discord? Maybe he got free from the statue and when Chrysalis came out of the castle along with her changelings, Discord (since he wanted to rule Equestria), sent them to another dimension or something by using his 'almighty chaos magic'. After that, Celestia comes and asks Fluttershy to reform Discord. Or, by using the elements of harmony, the Mane 6 would defeat Discord just like they did back in Season 2.

a lot of this would work; make sense, and so on, but... has anyone else seen commander firebrand's defense, showing Chrysalis as a genius? because it made sense too. even more sense, the sense that no-one sees for a while, but, when seen is like a riddle (well, duh! why didn't I see it sooner?). other than that, I like these changes.

My opinion is that changelings can feed off the love inside of everypony that feels it, even if their current emotion is one of hate, or anger.

While the initial plan had not included a direct confrontation with the Princess, but rather to hit her while her defenses were down, at the end of the ceremony, when She would be at full strength from Shining Armor's Love. When her two errors blew up in her face, (I will talk about those next) she realized that the only way to salvage the plan was a direct attack on Celestia. She had not realized the power of true love, though and was surprised when she defeated her.

The Second part of my Headcannon is that Chrysalis brought a number of Changelings with her into the city, whose express task was to remove and eliminate the Royal guard. The Guard had such a presence when Twilight was confronting her brother that it makes no sense for them to be just gone unless something unexpected happened to them all, like getting taken out one-by-one by a team of Changelings.

As for improving Chrysalis' character I would keep her as the fairly unsavvy villain but imply she is being given help/manipulated. This allows for the gaping holes in her plan (not factoring Luna in, forgetting to move most of her army passed the shield etc.) but also allows some degree of speculation as to who is helping her with possible solutions ranging from Discord to Celestia herself (although that ones unlikely). That might be a bit to much like an ongoing plot though thinking about it.

I feel I need to point out a few things with this. There are some good ideas in here but some of them don't quite make sense to me. First off I really don't think Fluttershy's stare is something she really needs to maintain. From what I've seen it's a one time deal that works on whatever happens to be in its line of sight. While it would affect multiple changelings it would just be those in her vision at the time. She would then have to muster it again which would be the source of strain.

My analysis of the episode: Celestia can detect the presence of evil. She sensed it when Chrysalis replaced Cadence, and told Shining Armor to go to max security. Chrysalis either resisted the spell's casting, or managed to force her way back through it (she's got to be queen for a reason). The cave kept Cadence trapped, so it's reasonable that it'd work on Twilight too. Twilight had a spell to reveal changelings, & Chrysalis must've known spells like that exist. So why not reveal herself first?

I would totally love this to be A Canterlot Wedding! Can I add just a bit more. When the Discord statue is cracking, it soon breakes and Discord is free. He doesn't notice Chrysalis and starts plotting his take over Equestria. Chrysalis states that she wants to be the only ruler and the two start fighting. Chrysalis almost loses in the battle, but gives a gigantic blast at Discord and he turns to stone, just like the Elements of Harmony did to him. Applejack then realises that Chrysalis is too powerful and she could easily defeat the elements. Knowing that the elements could backfire and turn The Mane Six to stone, Applejack gives up, tells the others, and the plot goes on as you said until the part with Luna. Instead of Luna turning up, Celestia does, but gets defeated like in the original. When Luna comes, she sees her sister damaged and the plot goes on from there.

So a rewrite of the attempt to flee for the Elements actually goes a long way towards helping that. While the current fight is filled with like a billion different kinds of awesome, having the Mane 6 not just be overwhelmed, but worn down despite their best efforts allows both the Mane 6 and Cadence to shine.

I think that Twilight and Armor bring close in childhood still works. I have seen many relative's and I have trouble remembering their names. I 'm not suggesting that Twilight would forget, but rather she knew he was alright and she didn't have to worry about him, besides when we first met Twilight she was wraped up in her cocoon of daily routine always studying. But when she becomes more sociable, she could have found more interest in her friends lifes, learning about who and how they are.

Your rewrite is a nice idea, but I think it falls short of providing the subtlety and brilliance you want Chrysalis to demonstrate (and which I want *all* fictional villains to illustrate). It also falls short of really utilizing the changelings' potential. Here's the rundown of what I have in mind: A1S1: Twilight's reaction to her invitation to the wedding remains the same, only in my version, she gets the letters in the right order. I agree with your idea of Shining Armor's introduction and prior absence making more sense if the two previously never spoke for a reason. Her friends suggest she go along with it to make some effort to repair the severed family bond between them (and thus seed the moral of the story). S2: There is no shield. I'm sorry, but for an entity that lives by feeding of another's energy, inciting an event that results in the chosen target draining their own energy on a regular basis is moronic. Instead, a handful of the palace guards and random citizens are rude to the Mane 6 for no clear reason. This is dismissed by one of the 6 (probably Rarity) as the result of the stress expected of a royal wedding in town. S3: Twilight and Shining reunite, and boy is it ever awkward. They haven't spoken in years. They try to be cordial at first for the sake of appearances, but ultimately they have to admit that their respective duties pull them apart. On his part, SA has to deal with a strangely increasing number of obnoxious subordinates. TS has to run off to see Celestia, having meant to ask who SA is getting married to, but forgotten. S4: Celestia greets the 6 warmly, but admits to feeling tired and stressed due to having to manage a town full of people who are excited and on edge thanks to a royal wedding. S5: TS and SA are reunited while away from the others, as in the original. Only this time, when !Cadence acts like a bitch, Twilight isn't immediately alerted, and may even be sympathetic. Tension's been going around town, after all. She is, however, still hurt that her favorite babysitter has forgotten their favorite greeting. Otherwise, this scene proceeds as normal. ...ok, I'm getting tired, so I'm just going to TL; Didn't Type this. The jist is that all the rude townsponies are actually the changelings. It isn't until after the third ambush that the Mane 6 figure this out, but they still don't know what to do because they can't just attack random ponies so they run. They are separated in the chase, only to think they run into each other in later scenes. Except at this point the changelings are imitating the Mane 6's forms and therefore capture them, all except for Twilight, who makes it back to the throne room. Meanwhile, !Cadence can act like the changeling attack was *not* her idea, thereby holding her disguise and even convincing SA to "protect" her. In the chaos, it is unlikely that anyone would notice that they're not actually attacking her. In the interest of maintaining her illusion, she offers to use a spell on Twilight that would keep her "out of harm's way". TS starts to refuse, but SA accepts for her, earning him a withering glare from his little sister that *finally* points to what the dispute between them might be and also shows that it is not really a fault on the part of either one. After all, it is her destiny to push herself beyond her known limits whenever she can, and it is his to protect ponies, especially those he cares about. Either way, !Cadence uses her "protection" spell and banishes Twilight to the same crystal prison thingy that the real Cadence is locked into. Only this time, there's a better explanation for nobody noticing that Twilight's absence is a bad thing. Sorry, more later if anybody's interested.

i am interrested^^ i have to question though why you think the shield would be a bad idea. after all chrysalis is feeding on his emotions not his magic powers. those are two different things and just because his magic or body is exhausted he won't stop feeling. on the contrary it also shows her cunning since it would actually make it easier for her to drain him since he would think any sideeffects are caused by his exhaustion and it also is much easier to cast her mindspell on a weakened person. i understand why you wouldn't put it in your story, but i don't see how it is a bad thing - from the changelings side at least.

thechatteringclown Emotions and magic energy may be two different things, but they both feed off the same source: the energy of the person experiencing them. And since rest is a basic need, it has the power to overcome any higher-order thoughts and impulses. Love, being one of the most complex emotions there are, requires a lot of energy. This is illustrated in the Crystal Empire episodes where Cadence can barely stand and is more or less feeding off of Shining Armor's love for her, because although she may dearly want to, she cannot return it. As far as the shield goes, not only is it a drain on Shining Armor's energy, which could instead be devoted to loving !Cadence, it also keeps out the smaller changelings. It would benefit them to a greater extent if their presence wasn't even suspected, as they infiltrated pony society using their power to imitate anypony. This would also serve the whole intent of their collective presence in the town far better than simply invading like they did.

One thing I would change, besides making Chrysalis smarter, is have Twilight ACTUALLY TELL HER FRIENDS WHAT CADANCE WAS LIKE. It would've been so easy! "Listen, girls, I have known Cadance since I was a filly! And I can tell you that even if she were under stress, she would NEVER act this way! EVER! She was always so kind, positive, loving, and sweet! She was my foalsitter; I know what I'm talking about!" You see?

I think another way they could have fought the changelings is by fighting the ones that look like them so as to avoid confusion. I like your ideas on how to change a Canterlot Wedding and it would be very interesting to see it all happen. I was thinking when Twilight becomes surged with all her magic she actually manages to copy Shinning Armor's barrier spell and is actually the one that drives them away. I also like the idea of Luna having a part in this trying to wake Twilight up. (Cont.)

I really liked the scene in which the mane six were fighting against the changelings. The first time I watched the episode, I watched the scene multiple times. However, I think that I may have enjoyed that scene even more if it had done what you had suggested. It could have made for some great character development, especially for Fluttershy, because her use of the stare and her bravery against the changelings when her friend, Rainbow Dash was in trouble. Overall, I personally agree with your suggestions.

There's also the issue of time constraints. All the ideas you mentioned would probably make for a more interesting story, but the whole ordeal would've likely turned the wedding into a 3-parter. Sure, they could've made the time by getting rid of one of the bad episodes (Mysterious Mare-Do-Well), but it would've taken more time to plan things out and make it all make sense. I still like your ideas, but for them to work, the regular audience would have to be more analytical and receptive.

Hmmm, not a bad re-write if I do say so myself, though I half expected you to have AJ buck Discord and set free the Lord of Chaos on the chagelings, while she'd find the others and try to find the Elements while he was messing around with our beloved invaders. But overall, great ideas, and the set-up for Discord's return later was very nice, with Celestia only doing the re-rehabilitation idea because she knew keeping him trapped was now a stop-gap measure at best. Well done!
