Do this once a week and watch your nails transform! I used 50 ml (1.5 oz) of a mixture of jojoba, avocado, grape seed oil, and sunflower oil. *not sponsored
OR you can use only jojoba for soaks and then add the other oils to use them as your daily oil to apply on your nails and skin around the nails after each hand wash.
Can you reuse oil? Please use your common sense. Pure jojoba is very heat stable and it does not go bad when heated. Other oils might not be as stable when heated.
If the oil smells off- throw it out. It doesn't have the benefits you are looking for.
Jojoba amzn.to/3y9qLcW
Avocado oil amzn.to/3MKG93F
Sweet almond oil amzn.to/3KGfTGn
Grapeseed oil amzn.to/3s9ut2y
The Ordinary Squalene amzn.to/3LHNWza
Proportions:
I like using jojoba as main oil and then I add approx. 25% of other oil/s.
I like to add oils rich in linoleic acid which are great for repairing skin barrier (oils like sunflower oil, safflower oil or grapeseed oil). These oils are also very light and won't feel greasy on the skin.
Avocado oil and sweet almond oil are a bit heavier but they are great for dry skin or in the winter.

With patience and following the instructions they look much much better and they got stronger . I started with oil soaking and dry manicure and I am really happy with the results. The only thing I have to practice is to form my nails . I don’t trust my self and don’t feel confident to do alone . But at the same time I don’t trust anyone anymore . After weekly oil soaks (4 weeks) my nails have stopped peeling!

I first watched this about 8 months ago. My nails had been terrible for about x3 years. Dry, flaking, peeling really badly, raised horizontal lines, a weird peach colour. I wore pale nail varnish to hide them. I put it down to health issues. After this video, I stopped wearing varnish & constantly rubbed Argon oil over my nails (and hands) especially while watching TV in the evening. After around x6 weeks, they started improving, so I filled them across with an emery. They grew again, a strong straight shape, the colour is normal, the ridges disappeared, they’re getting better and stronger all the time, I’m so happy! Thank you for all your good work! 😊

So helpful you are both educating us on the real problems with real solutions. This all explains why I could get some benefit from nail strengtheners from June and Olive or NailTech…then end up worse than when I started with low, low horizontal cracks. I was over hardening without adding in the flexibility. I am currently in a long term treatment phase, based on all your recommendations, but I still plan to send in my pics soon for evaluation..! I have my own cuticle/hot oil mix, 2:1 jojoba to Vitamin E. Vitamin E helps with both hydration and reducing nail yellowing from frequent polishing. It's also an anti-oxidant, so it protects nails from free-radical damage. So with the jojoba, it's like a 1-2 punch to keep nails healthy and strong. My nails and cuticles look and feel so much better now that I'm using oil more effectively on them.

Jojoba molecules are the smallest of any oil (it's technically an ester, yes). This is why it's great for the nails, the molecules can fit the deepest between the "shingles." A few years back there was a shortage so I switched to fractonated coconut oil for giving massage, which is now commonly available in any food store as "MCT Oil." This has molecules nearly as small as jojoba so it's also very light and absorbs well (doesn't leave clients greasy). Both are extremely non-irritating to the skin for most people. Oils that are thicker -- for instance, castor oil is one of the thickest oils -- have the largest molecules. Personally that's why I just use straight jojoba for my nails, because I figure getting it in deeply is the whole point.

Super informative and helpful as always, Anna. :) One question; won't the Acetone just remove all the oil when you go to do your nails? It doesn't seem, to me, that just having it on for one night, would do the nails much good. Can you apply the oil on say, a Friday night, reapply a few times on Saturday, once or twice on Sunday, and then paint your nails Sunday night? Asking for a friend. lol. Hugs as always. 💅
@rezzy8590

I would assume that the nail oil is penetrating deeper into your nails, maybe closer to the matrix and nail bed and when you use acetone, it's stripping the oils from the first 50 layers maybe? Same with washing your hands though maybe less oil is being stripped then, maybe only 25 layers when washing. And then, because your nails have oils to spare, some diffusion happens, perhaps since that's probably how it gets into your nails in the first place. This is my hypothesis, hope it was understandable!
@TheSalonLife

Hi Laurent! Like Felicity said, the purpose of the warm soak is to push the oil deeper into the nail plate. We don’t know how many layers it will reach. Probably not 50 because we have 50-100 layers. When you wipe with acetone you are just wiping the top layer. Hopefully oil (some oil) will stay inside of the nail. Taking 2 days off would not be a bad idea either. 🤗 hugs ❤️😘

Obsessed with your videos, thanks for putting up such amazing content!🙏 A few questions: 1. What is the benefit of using additional oils (avocado, sweet almond, grape seed, and sunflower)? My understanding was that only jojoba’s molecules are tiny, which enables great penetration. Are others to keep the mixture cheaper, or add a fragrance (i.e. almond)? 2. Is it okay to use food-grade oils or it’s better to use the ones marketed as carrier?
@TheSalonLife
@TheSalonLife Жыл бұрын
Hi Yulia! All oils have different benefits for the skin. Some are better for the nails, some are better for the skin. It's like blueberries are healthy and all but eating only blueberries is not a good idea. Almond oil doesn't have an almond fragrance. Food oil is great quality if you think about it :) If you can eat it you can surely put in on the skin. Carrier is fine too :) just don't eat the carrier maybe ;)

I was so glad to have found your channel a few years ago. The information that you share and teach is information that I have learned over the last 20 years of doing my own nails. All the youtube channels and some websites I had found (until I found yours), even with certified nail techs and nail instructors, give wrong information. There is one site that parrots Doug Schoon's info as their own to sell their product, and then puts a tiny byline somewhere. Also, a recent video from a well-loved nail instructor on youtube shocked me because I thought she was on the up and up for the most part. All that to say I truly appreciate your passion, the research you do, and the care you take to inform and avoid misinforming. It is really nice to know that I can rely on the 'new to me' information you share as being correct and not harmful in any way. Thank you so much for that!

Hi Anna, just came across your Chanel today and I’m loving your contents and can’t wait to start using your tips. I have a question with regards to a nail problem I believe to be rather unusual. I have somehow damaged my nail plate on one of my fingers and there is a vertical line all the way from the top to the bottom of the nail. I constantly catch on things due to my nail being always split in at the end and as a result I always have to keep it super short. When I visited a nail salon the lady told me that it is unlikely it will ever get repaired. It has now been 2 years with no improvement. If you have any idea of what I should do to get this fixed I would absolutely love to hear it. Thank you Sandrine

YES! Because oil isn’t actually “moisturizing”, it’s what helps to trap moisture in! It’s to help reinforce the all important barrier layer in our hair, skin and nails! You need all the components to have a healthy structure from top to bottom, or inside to out, whatever way you want to look at it. So you can’t just address moisturizing without addressing how to retain that moisture, because without a healthy barrier the moisture you add will only escape and you’ll be left with as dry skin, hair or nails as you had before. Drink plenty of water, eat healthy, moisturize your hair, skin and nails and mostly importantly, reinforce your barrier layer to seal it all in for strength in toughness and durability. Because “strength” in this sense (and in most senses of the word) doesn’t mean hard, it means durable. If you moisturize AND reinforce the barrier you’ll have the healthiest hair, skin and nails that your genetics will allow!

Where were you 40 years ago when I was baffled by why my nails were trash? It took me soooo long to get it all figured out FYI: those Elizabeth Arden ceramide ‘advanced’ ampules are the bomb for aging skin & I massage the solution into my face & neck with the backs of my nails & cuticles. REALLY great for my thin, splitting, per;ing & bendy as hell nails. I paint, do gardening, play guitar. Yikes that is hard on my weak hand skins & nails. I had to drop out of Nursing in the 80s because of the infected, splitting & massively swollen contact dermatitis mess. I looked like a leper

Olive oil is a great oil to use as it calcifies the nails but makes them flexible. I have very dry nails and olive oil really helps, I apply it before watching Netflix and I put it on my toenails and put socks on as an overnight treatment. It’s great on the lips. I also use Estée Lauder Night Repair serum around my nails which softens the skin.

@@TheSalonLife Thanks for replying and that’s really interesting. I actually should have specified it’s the extra virgin olive oil that I use. I started applying it on my nails and after about a month, I noticed how much stronger yet flexible they were. I have three table spoons of it a day and it is such a good source of nutrients. I have read lots on PubMed that say how beneficial extra virgin olive oil is and I must say, it helps my skin and nails a lot. I would try sunflower oil. Do you rate OPI Nail Envy? I would like to ask you a question. I have been suffering from real bad dry skin on my fingers and my toes. A dermatologist diagnostic as eczema. But I strongly feel that he was wrong. Cuz there's no rash or or any itch or anything like that that goes with that kind of problem. I basically have this dry skin. And what has became a serious problem in fact I use a fingernail clipper to clip off the bits of loose skin that I find on my fingers. And that has been a disaster. Because if one is not careful they get carried it out to far and they start sniffing a lot of skin even skin that's right close to the nail plate itself. And if I'm not too careful I pinch the skin and it causes a wound that bleeds. And I have multiple cuts on my fingers. I've been watching your videos and you seem to know a lot about this kind of thing. I would say that you are a specialist in these kind of things. Because the things that you say makes a lot of sense to me. I have heard you say in your videos that sniffing skin is not the answer. Because I have learn the hard way That sniffing skin leaves little skin tags or a little bit of skin sticking up and one thinks they have to snip it off. And that can go on for hours on end. Can you offer me any good practical advice of what to do about this?

HSN used to sell a product line called TIPS. They claimed that they reduced the size of the oil molecules for superb penetration and ultimately, flexibility. There was more explanation than that, but that was the aim. The rep would actually hit her nails on a wooden board (slightly denting/chipping the wood) to show the strength. I think it had jojoba in it, but she continuously pointed out that flexibility was the important aspect. The product I ordered was polish remover which had the oil in it, and it came with a sample of the oil. Idk if the science was accurate, but it was nice that it didn't chalk out my fingers and cuticles. Ordered couple of times but they eventually stopped selling it. Thank you for sharing. I keep threatening to order Doug's books but for some reason keep dragging my feet. PS-Its nice to see you in front of the camera and your pronunciation is excellent. Now if we could only see MSL 🤔😁🤗

Hi Shirley! Proportions: I like using jojoba as main oil and then I add like 25% of other oil/s.
